Yeasayer - Odd Blood

Ambling Alp is a fantastic single release but as a whole the album is distinctly disappointing. Some kind of attempt to be a quasi-AC band seems to be happening and it needs to stop.

Listening to this for the first time on my new turntable.  The guitars sound so wonderfully disgusting.

That is really how I feel about the album as well. I just keep on coming back to Ambling Alp.

"Hospital" - The Modern Lovers

Classic.

I was playing that album last year when a friend asked me what it was.  I told him it was the Modern Lovers, recorded in 1971.  He went, "Wow, this could've been made yesterday."  *That* is when you know you've got a timeless classic.

NP right now: Current 93's Black Ships Ate the Sky.  I've also been listening to both volumes of Musick to Play in the Dark a ton.

There is now a second song by Nika + Rory, Nika being Nika Roza Danilova. It is called "I'm Not Going Anywhere." This collaboration has been really entertaining for the whole two songs I've heard so far.

Getz/Gilberto is the best album ever recorded.  This has been my opinion for a while, and I plan on sticking to it.

What was the old bitrate? What is the new bitrate?

my library was all ripped at 128kbps WMA files, which was the default when i got my laptop (before i knew what bitrate was), and i kept at that rate/format once i knew what it meant, partly to save space, and partly for continuity (OCD much?).

however, i got a new laptop with a bigger harddrive, so i'm re-ripping all cds at 192kbps MP3, so it's a bit more flexible in terms of sending songs to mates/compatibility.  and slightly higher quality (but any higher quality and i still won't fit it all on, as i have a metric buttload of cds).  i'm not one of these guys who demands lossless or whatever - i never really heard any lack of quality in the old files tbqh.
