All Tomorrows Parties Australia '09

The lineup should be up anytime now. The rumours I've heard say that Nick Cave will be curating it. Hopefully that means a Dirty Three concert in store!

There are shows in Mt Buller (Victoria), Brisbane and Sydney, but it's not clear if it is going to be a tour or each location will get different bands. Possibly this is the best news I've heard this year.

I know it would differ from location to location, but were there age restrictions at the ATPs you attended, or were they all ages?

Thanks for that, the website is overloaded it seems.

That is a pretty underwhelming lineup, compared to most of the other ATP festivals. And no Dirty Three!

Also, this makes no sense: "3. A single day multi-band programme performing over two days at Sydney's pictureseque Cockatoo Island."

ROAD TRIP

(I'm counting a plane as a road now)

gardenhead: It'll be 18+. There's pretty much no such thing as all ages.

So it looks like they're doing something different with the Brisbane show, its going to be split up over the course of a few days with artists playing small gigs  at the Powerhouse theatre,  and with a larger day at the Brisbane Riverstage with The Bad Seeds, Spiritualized and some other bands.

Defs interesting but I'll still probably want prices before I decide.

The Saints and the Laughing Clown, eh? Interesting! I guess Ed Kuepper and Chris Bailey are friends again now.

Most music festivals in Australia are all ages though.

Well, this is the only ATP of the three this year that, based upon the lineup, I'm not weeping over missing out on. The lineup is indeed really underwhelming, considering it's complete, especially compared to England (which I'll always, for the rest of my life, regret not being able to see) and New York.

My first reaction: Meh.

Then relief, as it means I don't have to book an interstate flight and panic about trying to get a ticket online before they sell out.

Well, this is the only ATP of the three this year that, based upon the lineup, I'm not weeping about over missing out in it. The lineup is indeed really overwhelming, considering it's complete, especially compared to England (which I'll always, for the rest of my life, regret not being able to see) and New York.
from the ATP website:

LINEUP UPDATE: MANY MORE BANDS TO COME!
For those who are unsure, we'd like to confirm that the current lineups for Mt Buller, Sydney and Brisbane are just the very beginning and that there will be many many more bands added to all three locations. Keep this site bookmarked to find out all the latest additions as they're announced! Nov 5th will be the next release of confirmed bands for Sydney and Mt Buller, and on Oct 10th we will release more bands for Brisbane.

The rest of the line-up is being kept quiet for the Sydney Festival announcement. Throw in some bands of the quality of the last years sydney festival lineup (Bjork, Sufjan, Joanna Newsom, Brian Wilson) and it'll be seriously impressive.

Sydney explained:
Quote
All Tomorrow's Parties and Sydney Festival will present a one day program on Saturday January 17th, which will then be repeated on January 18th.
