Actually, the argument for LUGs and BUGs is that they're doing it to be 'special' and 'take advantage of the opportunities on campus' or even to fit in with the social scene.  At my school somebody wrote a huge manifesto against LUGs and BUGs and said that 'they were stealing our women.'  Yay women's college!
