Honestly if you don't want to be reminded about shitty bands you should probably steer clear of this thread.

What, work the semen stains out of the wood?

Sugar Ray

You son of a bitch, I bet you're real happy with yourself for ruining my day by reminding me they ever existed.

Teeheehee. Apologies, it won't happen again. JUST KIDDING IT WILL. Let's all talk about Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach while we're at it.

ONCE AGAIN, AS PREDICTED LEFT MY BROKEN HEART OPEN AND YOU RIPPED IT OUT

If anyone's interested, I know All Star and In The End by heart. I am of the opinion that if you were born between 1985 and 1990 in the United States of America, you probably do too.

Also, I've probably mentioned it before on this or other message boards, but Smash Mouth were from my hometown, San Jose.

I'm so sorry.

Deftones are underrated. They didn't deserve the nu-metal flak, because they were kind of like, post-rock vs. metal. Post-metal, I suppose. This massive, sweeping, throbbing noise. They were much more interesting than most of the nu-metal bands.

American Head Charge, I have the first album and it's far too long, but it's pretty fucking brilliant.

Fear Factory have some good tunes, Mushroomhead too (they did the masks/face paint thing before Slipknot, but then somebody whose name escapes me, maybe The Residents, was doing it long before then).

Incubus are such a woefully misunderstood band. They have a big radio hit with a boring acoustic ballad, and suddenly everyone loves that tune and thinks they're easy listening. Some of the earlier stuff like 'Certain Shade Of Green' is pretty heavy, and pointless cussing aside 'Megalomaniac' is a hell of a tune. In fact they have some pretty decent albums.

Hey guys, remember Trapt?

Also, honestly I really like a bunch of Fastball. Sooner or Later was a great pop song!

The Darkness? Are you guys shitting me? I still hear I Believe In A Thing Called Love somewhere every few days. And they're actually a pretty good band as far as cheesy rock n roll acts are concerned.

I guess that depends if you regard say, wiping your ass to be high standards or not.

Hi-Standard what?

Man, I laughed for a minute straight at this picture. I  never thought I'd see a band so lame that their frontman proclaims his influences on a shirt, but it is a Sugarcult shirt.

Hahaha. Trapt. They were from Los Gatos, which is essentially part of San Jose. What a bad band.

I think I was really into Fastball in middle school.

When I was 12 I listened to Bill Hicks and I couldn't understand why he hated California so much that he wished it would fall off the continent.

Deftones are actually a pretty good band.

Also goes for the first Fear Factory albums and EPs. Huge Godflesh influence.

Hey, Los Gatos produced some good things, too. Like Kari Byron from Mythbusters.

San Jose has produced the San Jose Sharks, me, Xiu Xiu (even if I don't listen to them), The Gingerbread House (a little house near downtown that semi-regularly holds awesome indie/post-rock shows), computer technology, two bands that were featured on the Nuggets compilation, and a few other awesome things.

It's not all bad!

There was this band called Dog's Eye View that sang a song called "Everything falls apart" in the early 90s. I saw the lead singer many years later and he played that song. He was opening for Counting Crows and Live. Man, all of this is terrible.

Yeah.

Jackie Blue, they weren't really like White Zombie iirc, just not totally popped out. They were at least attempting to rock a little bit I guess? Also, back then they were completely unknown, and thus my radio was safe from being mercilessly violated by their presence.

Actually when Sugar Ray was still "rocking" they were all over the commercial alternative station in Orlando.  And I hear that they almost never played their pop songs in concert, instead preferring to totally alienate the crowd by being loud and obnoxious.  Which I can kind of respect in a weird way.

actually, their Jesus Freak album had some pretty impressive production. I still occasionally hear it and it really does have some good playing on it.

The rest of their back catalogue is pretty dreadful though.

Not only that, but they just released a new album, which, to my memory, wasn't all that bad, but also isn't totally memorable, because I cannot recall a single song on it.

Ah yes, Trapt. Around middle school, when I had nothing to do and was not yet acquainted with the internet at large, I would watch MTV2. There were a lot of awful, awful bands from that time period.

I always mixed up Trapt with 12 Stones.

And speaking of 12 Stones, remember the horrible movie Daredevil? Yeah, I remember when that came out, and they were pushing the soundtrack really hard. It had a lot of shitty bands on it, but it had the honor of introducing a little band called Evanescence.

Evanescence annoyed me.  I can't say I didn't enjoy their music for a time, but they are terrible live, and they have that eepy "Drops of my scarlet blood rain like ash from all the finger-lickin' SUICIDE" facade splayed all over them.

I think they invented that, actually.

Come on, guys, Blind Melon are actually pretty good, they're a lot more than "No Rain".  The self-titled is excellent, their second is pretty good, and yes, they released an album either this year or the end of last year with a new singer.  It wasn't bad, considering they haven't been around for 10+ years AND have a brand new singer, but it wasn't memorable for me past the single.  They just broke up again though.
