Remember when people mistook Weezer for Wheatus and vice versa?

Fun times.

I heckled Wheatus. After their second song I shouted "YOUR LIFE COULD BE GOING BETTER". Their goofy singer dude nodded sadly.

That is both an amazing story of rad past exploits and a sad, sad reminder that the music business is not always as glamorous as it looks.

horrible boy band

You know, this reminds me of something. There's a taxi driver here in Tirana who plays the Backstreet Boys album "Millennium" every single time I ride with him.

Hanson?

I love how after they faded into obscurity after "MMBop" stopped getting airplay, and then maybe 3 years later they tried for a comeback with "This Time Around", which was played almost exclusively on the Disney Channel and, well, didn't really work. Especially funny since this is the chorus:

You can't say I didn't give it
I won't wait another minute
We're on our way this time around
You can't say I didn't give it
I won't wait another minute
We're on our way this time around
And we won't go down

And the sweet taste of justice was enjoyed by all as Hanson did, in fact, go down.

They were never obscure in Britain though.

They're also fucking brilliant, as boy bands go.

P.S. I reviewed Local H's latest album and it was pretty badass.

'Patience' was great. And 'Shine' wasn't bad, shame it had to be fronted by Mark Owen, who I just want to punch in the face all day even more than Gary Barlowe. I've not heard anything from The Circus yet, though.

Bush's first album had some good songs on it.  They were certainly nowhere near as bad as, say, Silverchair.

That is both an amazing story of rad past exploits and a sad, sad reminder that the music business is not always as glamorous as it looks.

My favorite sad reminder is when someone asks a musician if they mind taking a picture, and the musician doesn't realize that the person asking the question means "Can you take a picture of my friend and I, because I actually have no idea who you are and could not care any less." I've seen this happen on several occasions at shows up in Minneapolis; watching a pseudo-celebrity sheepishly stop posing and just quietly accept the camera never gets old. Good times.

Good christ I hate people who spell numbers using the number itself as one of the characters.

I think that if I ever get bored working alone as The Starfighters, I will form a band and name it 8 T Th000usand just to be a cunt.

For reference, this is a bit like if Neil Young played with Pearl Jam.

Oh wait, that happened too.

I prefer to think of it as Pearl Jam playing with Neil Young.

Baha Men
Eiffel Sixty Five
Chumbawumba (as their 1 hit wonder incarnation)
Lou Vega

Also, I will assert that Savage Garden is the best pop band of the 90's, even though I am horribly horribly wrong.
I still listen to them. First album is pure pop music bliss.

Have you listened to anything off of Europop other than "Blue"? I doubt it. That album seemed otherwise pretty solid.

I will agree with your assessment of Savage Garden, though.

Yes, yes I have listened to the entire album. In fact, I bought the album and when I lost it I went out and bought it again.

Have you heard anything from Silverchair after their second album? Daniel Johns turned into a Brian Wilson-obsessed orchestral pop "genius" (or so says the Aus music media.) Homeboy even works with Van Dyke Parks.

Everything they released after their second album was even worse than the first two (which were bearable, if generic and a rip off of every other grunge band).

ive never heard a full album of theirs, but silverchair's "best of" disc is pretty good when you're in the right mood.  and the b-sides disc has a few crackers on it too.

But is Daniel Johns still a dreadful lyricist?

Although in his defence his first side-project with Paul Mac did have the best name for any band anywhere, ever. (For the non-Australians in the audience, they were called I Can't Believe It's Not Rock.)

I remember silverchair when they were the Innocent Criminals.

Also I was in year 3 in primary school with Ben Gillies. He was the class clown.

Also silverchair are a pretty average band.
