Eh, if I wanted to listen to something that tried to be The Beatles, I'd listen to The Beatles.

I'm pretty sure they're still around and recording/performing.  Didn't they just have an album that had something to do with poison apples or something?

He toured behind Guitar Hero 3 with... some other band. Fall Out Boy?

Anyway, I saw the guy open for Beck on the Sea Change tour. Man is mighty short.

Short but feisty! When I saw him (with Vendetta Red? some other bands too i don't remember) some dude in the crowd was flipping him off and he stopped the song and started swearing at him "Come on up here f***er. Lets go" etc.

Stabbing Westward

The first concert I ever saw was them opening for Ethyl Meatplow opening for Front 242 in 1993.  Their first album is actually somewhat servicable on a dumb level.

Also, Harvey Danger were pretty good.

I liked that song.  Then I realized the reason I liked that song was because it was built off a RHCP bassline back when Flea was at the top of his game.  Then I breathed a huge sigh of relief because I liked Flea and not Crazy Town.
Why on earth would that knowledge bring you relief?

'Cause the song the ripped off is from Mother's Milk, the last album that RHCP did before they started pussying out.  "Under the Bridge" can die in a fire.

Agreed.  As far as iffy rip-offs of NIN go, Stabbing Westward's first album is okay.  Not as terrible as their subsequent albums, or anything by Gravity Kills.  But also not as good as God Lives Underwater's self-titled EP or Empty, or anywhere near Prick's Prick.  (2nd and 3rd concerts for me were Prick opening for Bowie & NIN, and GLU opening for KMFDM.)

i think they're still on the go, albeit with an altered line-up.  i seem to remember reading a review of a new album called "in the attic" or something last year.

and i know they were the laughing stock of the music industry because they broke some kind of record for biggest drop in record sales between their debut (which sold MILLIONS off the back of that smooth criminal cover), and their second album (whose lead single was actually quite good) which sold FUCK ALL.

Didn't AAF's bassist try to release a signature potato bass through Fender? Gee, I wonder how that went.

This thread will not be over until someone posts a band as bad as Brokencyde or Millionaires, and about a tenth as recognized as the band that played "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

Bowling for Soup.

Thread over.

Grammy nominees Bowling for Soup, no less.

I think I'd rather listen to something completely awful like Crazytown than "Breakfast at Tiffany's." At least Crazytown elicits some kind of emotion, unlike Deep Third Eye in Matchbox Playground. The late nineties were easily the dullest time for popular rock music in America, at least in my lifetime.

Oh hey, what about Incubus? I had a friend in high school that was really into them and I guess they were popular for awhile. Sort of a Korn klone with "meaningful" lyrics.

And then there's the Goo Goo Dolls, who were actually not bad until they blanded out and became popular. And then I thought, wait, do I only think they suck now because they are popular and get played on VH1? But, no, everything after "Boy Named Goo" really is that bland.

I guess that depends if you regard say, wiping your ass to be high standards or not.

Hi-Standard FUCK YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Alien Ant Farm - they had one song that was really popular then they just completely disappeared.

Shame, because they did "Smooth Criminal" a great deal more justice than the original (at least, I sure think so), and more than half that album (ANThology) is really great shit. So much awesome guitar work. How was their next album on a whole, anybody know? I'd like to hear more from them.

Guys how about Stroke 9. They did "Little Black Backpack" (which was pretty excellent, as far as pop-"alternative" goes) and then they went "Sup, uh, yeah bye."

The guitarist had a signature model with Schecter, and from what I remember, it sounded really nice. Flame-top 006 with a clear finish, and Duncans (maybe JB/Jazz?)

Not that I am a fan of Incubus or anything (I used to be back as a wee laddie) but it kind of confuses me when people say things like this because they sound pretty much nothing like Korn, and they never ever did. I guess because they were popular around the same time and were both on that Family Values tour or whatever it was called? When Incubus first started out I think they wanted to sound like Red Hot Chili Peppers or something for some strange reason.

I see we are in slight disagreement.   I think McMahon is a great songwriter and woefully unappreciated.  To me, The Wreckard just sounds angular in a kind of updated-Scary Monsters way.  I don't really hear any paranoid schizophrenic tendencies on that or Lucky Pierre's ThinKing.  And geez, I wouldn't characterize "Runaway Brain" as anywhere near as terrible as what Al Jorgensen's been putting out since alienating every Ministry associate who had any talent.

I know at least a few of the bands on that list are still around. Mudvayne just released an album that looks hella awesome(well the specially edition one does. It comes in this little case file folder, and has this booklet and has this whole big story with it that sounds really interesting. I am a sucker for concept albums.), and according to a friend of mine, who loves metal, they aren't so bad, so I don't know.

remember their lead singer?  weak-ass-looking skinny blond girly-boy?  well, dude stabbed a motherfucker.

Please go to this page and pick any single band which takes your fancy.

although the majority on there are/were shite, even a cursory glance reveals some not-actually-that-bad-at-all bands, e.g. American Head Charge, Deftones, Fear Factory, Kill II This, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Taproot and Unloco.  i admittedly don't own any of their music, but they weren't half as bad as some of the others on there.

I actually love Deftones. A lot.

And I've seen American Head Charge in concert. Here's what I remember: Right before the band came on, a guy walked out on stage and hammered a nail through his nose. Then he snorted a condom and either pulled it out through his mouth, or through his other nostril. Then the band came on.
