I have an unhealthy obsession with a Danish band called A Kid Hereafter, when it comes to this stuff.

Otherwise, if I'm in a foul mood and need cheering up, I listen to some Grindcore.

To name only a few-- but not that few given my indecisiveness:

'It's gonna be a long night' & 'Bananas and Blow' -  Ween
'I Ran'- Flock of Seagulls
'Blasphemous Rumors'- Depeche Mode
'Hot Bat'- Man Man
'Comme Elle Vient'- Noir Desir
'My Angel is a Centerfold'-  J. Geils Band

also,
Beulah

In terms of extreme metal, I use thrash metal.

The Doors - Break on through to the other side
Because the nearly non-sensical lyrics always makes me smile, and the title-line kinda force me to doing crazy thing, being fun, and use my tenebrous charm on girls. Whan Morrison sings something, I obey.

Daft Punk - Too Long
Because It's like a travel from sadness to happyness

And of course, "Oops I did it again", by Britney Spears :)

This. Especially Metal Church, but there is just something about the song Wrecking Crew.

I don't want cheering up often, though. I'm usually happy with the calm state that a lot of doom's varieties put me in. See: Agalloch, MDB, How Like a Winter, and some of Down III (especially nothing in return).

God, this just turned into an orgy of "my music is more obscure than yours." I haven't heard of barely any of these bands.

What about stuff like:
Blitzkrieg Bop - The Ramones
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
Love is Free - Sheryl Crowe (or however the fuck you spell that woman's fucking name, FUCK) ( ::deep breath:: I'm okay now.)
Take It Easy - The Eagles
The Bad Touch - The Bloodhound Gang (Come on. It's hilarious.)
Who Wouldn't Wanna Be Me? - Keith Urban
One Week - Barenaked Ladies

Good, classic stuff that just brightens you up when you hear it.

I was so confused lol. I mean I listen to underground stuff, but I guess it's not the same folksy, hipster, indie genre. Which if that's what you like, good on you, but most of it bores or depresses me. If it makes you happy, though, woo!

I heard Will play Westfall live once and he laughed when saying the line "And when I killed her, it was so easy, that I wanted to kill her again" so now every time I hear it I can't help but smile...

Guess I am a crazy murderer  :-D

But yeah 90% of Black Sheep Boy is extremely depressing, guess you got me there.

"Rockin' Stroll" by Lemonheads! That's my ultimate feel good song. Oh, and "Jump" by Van Halen!

And, by my alltime favorite band, Minutemen, "#1 Hit Song". It's impossible just to listen to one of their songs, though.

Here's some thoroughly non-indie songs that put me in a good mood.
Thunderstruck - AC/DC
Sweet Child o' Mine - Guns and Roses
Beethoven's 9th symphony, particularly the final movement. And not just the melody everyone knows.
You can't get less indie than Beethoven. It just isn't possible.

Incidentally, I don't have Thunderstruck on my Zune. I want to legitimately purchase it, but of course, AC/DC-- the internet...
And Walmart for that matter. They don't have "The Razors Edge."

Shut up. Zunes are awesome.

isn't this thread pretty subjective? I'm listening to Meshuggah - Dancers to a Discordant System, and I'm totally in aural bliss. But it's because I love djent, and polymetrics, and Meshuggah. I think if you already like the band, you're going to be happy when you hear their music.

Robots in Disguise - Turn me up.

When I was working for a break down company in what was probaly the most depressing job I could have got, I would have to listen to that song both on the walk to there and the walk back. Always made me happy dispite telling some old 80 year old dear who broke down two hundreed miles from her home that she'd have to pay in excess of £500 for a tow-ride home.

Also "Hey Jealousy" by Gin Blossoms

I thought I was one of only few that listens to Gin Blossoms. Props.

Pachuca sunrise - minus the bear
All of "Highly Refined pirates" - Minus The Bear

Minus The Bear is where it is at.

I can't think of anything that makes me like really really happy. "That Green Gentleman" by Panic At The Disco and "Float On" by Modest Mouse are like songs that say "life's okay" so they are like good for the depressed.

I would say the two closer ones that make me a bit happy is "Jammin'" and "One Love" by Bob Marley. Songs that can make me feel good. Also "Grass" by Animal Collective. I just can't stand the "pow pow now now" from the song lol.

I've got to agree with those that have put Okkervil River up there. "Westfall" and "So Come Back I Am Waiting" invariable fail to depress me. Me = weird.

Also, "Flagpole Sitta" - Harvey Danger. Lifts the spirits every time, seance or no.

Victoria's Secret by Sonata Arctica is a good one for me and on a much heavier note, The Sacrilehous Scorn by Dimmu Borgir (I dont know why either- it just does). Otherwise a lot of stuff by Hot Hot Heat seems to and Futureheads can pick me right up, just for the upbeat nature of the music at times.

Seriously, this song is happy as fuck
(I contemplated using the phrase happy as shit, but then decided that wouldn't be very happy. I didn't want to go with fuck, but the only other option I could think of was hell, and that's really not happy at all either. So I guess happy as fuck fits best. even though it sounds kind of stupid.)
