I'm not saying hair colour shows you what a person's like - just that, with all the stuff Dora tends to do with her hair, I couldn't see her leaving it blonde. Also, in a comic strip, appearance can reflect personality much more than in real life.

I know a lot of natural blondes - most of my friends are blonde, in fact. (My living in Norway might have something to do with the amount of blondes I'm exposed to) And I have nothing against people with blonde hair or anything. :P I just think that colour doesn't suit Dora.

Anyway, this is a pretty silly discussion.

That is an epic hivemind. Exactly the points I came on to make. Blanket Hanners made me audibly D'AWWWW.

Isn't it surprising what kind of an effect an artist can create simply by leaving out the character's body?

Dora's hair appears to be improving still. When I first saw it I just thought "Um, no." but now I think it looks really good. Maybe because it's less springy.

God forbid Marten should ever knock up Dora. That would be a disaster.

I actually think that will be the next big drama, but it will be Faye and Sven, not Marten and Dora.

God I hope not. This comic is dramatic enough without throwing a kid into the mix.
Also, does anyone who is not a rabid Hannelore fan feel that Jeph is overdoing it with her a little bit?

Well, I'm not a rabid fan of Hanners but with any story that involves a choice amount of people, it's going to seem like one of them from time to time is being featured. It happens in sitcoms, stories, etc. Going through the archive you'll notice there are days that focus on this character then it shifts to another. It keeps the comic/story moving in a way we wont understand until we get to the climactic moment that Jeph has prepared.

Just seems like it's all Hanners lately. I'm bored with her. She's cute, but she's not interesting. Hide in apartment, freak out over minutia. Yes, I know, OCD, but still. Yawn.

Besides, the world only needs one Anders Loves Maria. (That's not a knock against ALM at all, mind you. If I were going to bash a comic for a pregnancy storyline, I'd have brought CAD into the mix.)

Does doing the "Mom nom nom" make one a "Nom Nom Mom"? (I don't really know what this means, but it beats the post I was going to write about vomiting.)

Back to an earlier topic: it occurs to me that Jeph is having Dora grow her hair out blond simply because he's tired of Martin-Dora clone snarks. I think there was something about this in the QC twitters.

Of course, Dora may simply be changing it. Some girls (maybe guys , too, but I've yet to meet any) simply cannot keep their hair the same for more than seven days. I taught a night class once in which there was one student whom I could never correctly name, because every week her hair was a different style and/or color. Drove me mad(der?).

Anyway, this is a pretty silly discussion.
You're right, of course, but when you get down to it, 'pretty silly' describes most of the discussions on WCT. Which is why I love it so.

Moving onto the comic, Hannelore looks like she has got more than just the flu. It kind of looks like chicken pox (or small pox; you never know what Jeph might be thinking) and I think she will need a lot more mothering before she is well again. Also, Dora's hands look really weird in the second panel. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but they just look...weird.

I think Hanners is sweating. She probably has fever with chills - bad news, but nothing overly alarming.

Dora is gripping the blanket in panel 2. I'm sure it's tough to draw that, let alone drawing hands in general...

Yeah, you are probably right about the sweat. I was just hoping for some kind of pox, you know? You never hear enough stories revolving pox. :)

On Dora's hands though, I completely agree that hands are fantastically difficult to draw, but it is just because they line up perfectly with the sides of her body in that panel that raises my eyebrows. Normally, when someone is holding something in front of them, the lines and shading that give a 2D image a 3D appearance would dictate that her hands would appear a little farther apart from the sides of her body because her hands and what she is holding would be closer to the viewer/audience/whatever. I know I am nitpicking, but it still just looks a little odd to me. The only reason I even mention it is because it distracted me for a moment as I reading.

I don't see how sticking with the same piece of literature makes any difference. If anything it proves how vast an understanding one has of Greek literature if they understand both references.

Sven being who he is, I'm pretty sure he doesn't even remember meeting Penelope before this instance.

Wil: 'Zounds, the most beautiful and intelligent girl has whisked into my life, carried by breezes of sweetest summer blossoms of romance!
Sven: Oh yeah? Who?
Wil: She is called Penelope, a lovely name for an equally lovely woman!
Sven: Penelope... Penelope... Is she the chick on Fourth who has a really great rack and blue highlights in her hair?
Wil: ::twitch::

The hell?  How is Sven a jackass??

They don't have an exclusive relationship.  They don't even have a relationship, period--at Faye's insistence, not his.  Sven can flirt with anyone he wants.

Faye would be the asshole for getting all possessive when she's the one insisting on it being what it is.  She can't have her cake and eat it too.

She doesnt have a real relationship because she's unable to have one, not because she doesnt want one.

So what?  Why should Sven have to have his life dictated by HER neuroses?  That's like someone who has a cat allergy demanding that none of her friends ever adopt cats.

Whatever the reason, the situation is: They are friends with benefits.  They do not have a relationship.  At Faye's insistence.

Sven can do what he likes.

And also, whatever her feelings PRIVATELY, she has said several times that she wouldn't want a committed relationship with Sven anyway, and that their little arrangement works because Sven is just someone she likes to have sex with, but wouldn't want to date.

So.  Again, it's not Sven's fault that she says one thing and means another.

The Medea comment definitely one-ups Penelope's, so I was thinking - maybe Faye was subconsciously trying to impress Sven. Like her brain was thinking "Sven likes girls who can reference classical literature? I shall do it better!".
Maybe.

I'm going to hope Sven only wants to wind Faye up and not just make her feel like crap here - yeah they don't have a relationship, but discretion still exists. Flirting with someone else in front of her isn't a coincidence at all.

Unless Faye and Sven's relationship has changed in the intervening time so that they are exclusive.
