I guess a better way of phrasing that question would've been "pathetic drinking or yay drinking!"

ahh, well, I'm hanging out with a cute lady tonight, so, yay drinking. Though I shouldn't drink after being awake for so long and not eating any food for over 7 hours. It doesn't bode well for me.

I will definitely try not to have pathetic drinking, but no promises.

Yay, a guy who works in the same building as me gave me his number and asked if we could hang out sometime. So next week I will see a show he's doing at a local coffee house and we'll go from there!

It was another busy day at the library today.

There are a number of new people going to the library that evidently don't understand how it works.  They keep asking me how much a library card costs (nothing).  Do library cards cost money in Canada or in other countries?  Has anyone gone to a public library where access costs anything?

In any case the internet access computers were all full again today.  The director wants more computers.  The senior librarian doesn't because we don't have enough staff to cover any more.  The public is hungry for free internet access...hungry...

in Washington you have to share a zip code with a library for it to be free. if you are from another town or something it costs money (usually an exorbitant amount). maybe that's what they were thinking of?

a friend of mine just tried to get a library card in Burlington but couldn't without paying money because he lives in Mount Vernon (even though they are pretty much the same town, only seperated by a small river). needless to say, he was pissed.

Library cards here only cost money if you've lost yours and you want a new one. At least that's how it was when I got mine many years back. But at the same time, I could understand someone thinking they would cost money.. Most things do nowadays.

Huh, learn something new everyday.

Well crap that fancy MLS I am still paying for doesn't mean much.

Now I recall we do actually charge a fee if someone wants a card that is from somewhere else.  But since the library system is a tri-county one anyone who gets a card at a nearby library can use it in ours.

And anyone can come in and use our computers.  I think that is mainly because we get a ton of Montreal people coming down here.  I don't think many libraries have completely open access to the internet.  Most libraries require a library card or local residence.  (Or that might just be in NY, when I was briefly homeless I couldn't get access to the internet)

Cards are free at our local library, but it does cost something if you lose yours and need a new one.

And they do have little branches spread around the town (three or four, I think), which is convenient.

Dear blog thread,

Dad got annoyed at Ro this morning for doing nothing around the house and Ro got annoyed at Dad because he's been doing nothing for weeks and I got mad at Ro because he was yelling and I hate arguments and they both had points but Rowan shouldn't have been yelling and throwing things so much and yeah.

Apparently Rowan could have moved out but didn't because he didn't want to leave me here alone with Dad, but he is always out anyway, so I don't really see how he is helping me at home?If he had moved out I would at least be going to bed when I want rather than sitting up listening to him talk about the symphony he is writing which I don't care about.

So, uh, great way to start the morning? My hands were shaking the whole time and I thought I was going to cry because Rowan was fuckin' bellowing and looked like he was going to punch someone.

Battles are playing in Sydney again! They are playing at a festival curated by Brian Eno! Exclamation marks!

The girl I am fooling around with just texted me to ask me if I've seen watchmen yet, I wrote back "I just saw it 35 minutes ago."

Don't fret it. That is not a good film to see with a lady. The leading female character is a transparent pushover and the only other females exist to be impregnated, beaten, shot and raped.

To be fair it is a great date movie if you are taking a girl who ain't that big on the thinking. Lots of gore and easy to get distracted from

On the home front I am feeling a lot better. I have had a nice cup of tea, an apple and a few cigarettes and am about to clean the house. I am confident I will be feeling a lot better by the time I start work on Saturday night.

Oh Jesus I just visited some news sites about Eno curating the Sydney festival and the comments are almost exclusively to the tune of "Fuck the NSW Government Melbourne gets Tiger Woods and we get some arty farty guy that no one cares about who is Brian Eno anyway who is David Bowie who is Talking Heads what is culture UDUHHHH"

face.

Here are some of the people who are providing the voices in Monsters vs Aliens:

Seth Rogen
Will Arnett
Hugh Laurie
Stephen Colbert as the President of the United States.

They are four of my favourite people, I can not wait to see this film.

Brian Eno, Tiger Woods and idiots.

Every time I am reminded that Tiger Woods is easily a top tier global celebrity I'm confused and taken aback for a moment. I don't have a real strong bias against golf or anything, I just kinda forget it exists entirely for months at a time.

PS BLOG THREAD,

Got put onto day shift tomorrow which is fucking sweet cause Saturday day shift is so cruisy and involves a lot of hanging out and smoking, and gives me Saturday night to go see the Kidney Thieves, get off chops on pills with a pretty girl, or go to a doof and get off chops on pills surrounded by mad dudes and ladies.

(I have had a really good day!)

Dear internet

OHMIGODCOURSEWORKDEADLINES

I cannot write a 1500 word essay on the relative democratic merits of the german and english political voting systems in German it is not humanely possible oh god oh god it is due next Friday and my tutor wants to see a draft today and I have only written 1000 words of bullshit so far oh god oh god I am going to implode with panic.

On the upside my sociology coursework was handed in a day early and it looks great! I think I might get an A for it! (If I do not I am probably going to spend the next year working full time in Sainsburys which does have its positives: the pretty girl will still be at college for another year.) God that is depressing all I have to look forwards to in my life is that there is a girl who has nice hair who I can look at sometimes. What I am basically saying is Jonas, please do my homework for me.

I am also frantically writing loads of bullshit the program for the concert I am singing in on Sunday.  We are singing Duruflé's Requiem in Exeter Colllege Chapel, which has a deliciously noisy French-style organ.

Ugh the dude who lives in the apartment next to me who is always yelling awful things at the kids in the upstairs apartment just came in wanting to use the computer to look up homes for sale.

He doesn't know how to use the computer.  He can't even use a mouse.

How does he expect to use the Internet to look up real estate?  Luckily my shift on the reference desk was ending.

In any case it's been horribly busy in the library this week.

Some dude came by asking for old city directories to investigate the history of a building.  That was pretty cool.  I was able to get him a ton of resources and stuff.

My Davis is in town!

(I am trying to buy him pot)

(I may try to get it from a family member)

My septum tusk fell out, and I am currently using a toothpick!

ETA: I want to bake my Davis some Pac Man cookies. I don't care much for sugar cookies, but I need something nonbumpy for the icing. What is my next best bet? Snickerdoodles maybe?

The idea that anyone wouldn't know how to use a computer is completely alien to my brain, which is pretty interesting. I was on a college computer in fits of laughter at the "learn to use a computer" programme which required you to left click on a button in order to... open the "using a computer mouse" tutorial. You'd think they would think that one through, really. Perhaps it is a programme you have a tutor for and the tutor clicks for you?

Today I placed myself in the interesting position of having blocked myself out of the blog thread by including the word "bullshit" in my previous post, which was immediately picked up by the content filters. I also almost got locked into college after my final class because I had an extra tutorial with a student teacher and we didn't realise that the building closed at five. So when we wandered down to reception at half past five we found the caretakers literally about to turn the key. I'm not quite sure what we'd have done.

I should spend the evening doing some more german coursework but instead I will sit here pootling round the internet and wishing I'd not worn doc martens on a day where I had to walk two miles. My heels had only just recovered from last time and now they are blistered again.

tl;dr I have a boring life but I'm happy.

There's this really handy "other thing" I'm going to write as a footnote to my abstract that I can probably explore these issues in. I think I'll call it my "dissertation."

Ah yes getting locked in college buildings.  Good times.

I had a custodian lady gripe at me once because I was editing video in the Student TV station at night and she was surprised that there was anyone there.  I always thought it was friggen dumb that they restricted the hours so much and didn't allow people to stay late unless they signed forms and there was more than one person.

It has always been my belief that closing college buildings off so early promotes heavy drinking.  (I mean what else can explain the amount of beer I drank in 2003?)
