Blog Thread II: Beyond Blogosphere.
« on: 26 Jan 2009, 03:18 »

Right. The boring bloggy dreck that would normally be posted in the Old Blog Thread has been spreading elsewhere on the boards. I've caught myself doing it more times than I'd like to admit. I'm not trying to be all high-horsey here, but man, it's like cementing shut the sewers of New York. The shit's gotta go somewhere. Why not a place where you can avoid it?

Like the last one, please be reasonable. Again, I know I'm not one to talk here, but we can try.

Hi, Blog Thread IV: The Cromwell Initiative

I spent today playing guitar, and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It's the second time I've played it, and I forgot much of it. It's such an incredible game, it's major downside appears to be the fact that it's not OoT, and therefore has less nostalgia value. I guess it's less of a revolution, too.

Also!

I saw the second Narnia movie today. Prince Caspian. I thought it was really bad, something of an insult to the works of C.S. Lewis in my mind. And I'm not even a huge fan of his books. The pacing was all wrong, as it spent too much time on facial expressions and battles and such, with not enough time put into effectively setting up the circumstances involved. It was like "lol I'm runnin away nao I'm a prince lol" to "rofl look at mah army" in just a few minutes. Essentially, it didn't feel like a progression, a buildup.
It did a good job of showing Edmund's progression, however. He was genuinely beginning to become just and wise, while Peter and Caspian clashed egos all the time. All in all, I think the BBC adaptions were better. They didn't stray from the books so much, and doesn't need to cling to the norms of Hollywood moviemaking. Plus, those adaptions were simply charming and genuinely English, which lent them something genuine. Indeed, the current Narnia movies seem quite formulated.

So Patrick gave me permission to change the thread title, and oh, hey:

I have started getting naked with a really awesome girl

inspiration!

(By the way, see that "subject" box when you're making a post? You can change that, you know, and it gives your post its own little heading. So you can just make up your own thread title every time you post! If you want to.)

It's not about the choice of words or how graphic it is. It's about the fact that I really don't want to hear about anybody's sex life.

Actually I could do without hearing about sex at all for, oh, six months or so. I mean have you been out there? It's just sex, sex, sex, 24/7. How about we as a society talk about trees for a while instead. I like trees. Trees are nice and we don't pay them enough attention. I wonder if Pamela Anderson has an tips about pruning? I also find myself curious to know about how David Duchovny deals with Dutch Elm Disease, and about whether George Clooney prefers oaks or birches.

I would have gone with "Blog Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo" or "Blog Thread 2: The Secret of the Ooze" myself.

So I'm working at my new job. Yay IT work! But every time I've tried to begin my training something goes wrong. First we ended up installing a server on a burnt-out blade, then the servers couldn't connect to one another, and now we lack a version of 32 bit MS Server 2008. So I'm not learning much.

At first I really didn't like this job, because it's in the College of Business. The College of Business is, at its core, the beer bong that funnels out the sludge of any given university's fraternity / sorority population into the gaping, whooping maw of polite society. So it's all bros, all the time here. Thankfully, I am still allowed to surf the internets while on the clock. So it's not as bad as it could've been.

Patrick, Sector Nine is jokes, like straight jokes. They make the bottom of the barrel entry level stuff, and really they aren't that good. I recommend Arbor if you want something pretty and classy that still looks like a classic longboard, and then there's this other company I can't remember the name of that makes amazing carving boards, they just look a little funky. I think the name starts with an E, but I could be wrong.

LONGBOARDS!!!

On the topic of longboards:

Sector 9 - the first longboard I got was a 93 cm old-school-shaped Sector 9 CA Roots. It was okay to learn but it was still a skateboard at heart.
Then I got a Flexdex (very heavy fiberglass board) that lost most of its spring because the material albeit nearly indestructible just doesn't pop like good wood does.

Loaded boards are where it's at. Two of my best friends who also longboard have a Dervish and a Vanguard. I myself have a Loaded Pintail and they are good stuff.

Depending on where you are located, certain other brands and companies may be cheaper and more readily available. I've only had good experiences with Landyachtz, for example.
But they cost ricockulous money over here; you get them for cheap in Canada.

ah so something cool happened! I won a gold for a photo in a statewide juried art exhibition. this was my first time entering things and I've never had any recognition of my achievement in art so it feels really good. we went to boston during my art class (I uh missed french, too) to scope out the exhibit and see who won for individual submissions. still waiting to hear if my portfolio won anything.

this photo if anyone is curious.

Dear blog thread,
What is the point of spending several hours editing the fairly badly written articles which were submitted five days late to the paper, only to find that the originals have been put into the paper without even a spell-check and you have to edit them all over again?

No, seriously. Why am I even wasting my time doing this?

Dear Blog Thread,

My life as it currently stands.

I have to live in Colorado for a full year, starting on sunday. Whether or not I have to stay in Colorado Springs, or can go to Denver or Boulder, is as yet undetermined.

I am going to be suspended from school. I am not aware of how long, yet, but it could be anywhere from a month and a half, to a full year. A month and a half would be survivable, a full year would be life shattering to a fair extent. I would be graduating at the age of 25 if this is the case, aside from having to spend a full year, completely sober, in a shitty town while banned from my college campus.

This means I need a job. I don't know what kind of work I want to do, part of me thinks this would be a good time to try something pretty bizarre for me(I could probably get a job at an investment banking company, advertising, etc) but part of me just wants to get something simple so I can go to rehab(have to do that, too) and still have time to climb, fish, ski, read, and actually live my life a little bit.

I have a crush on a girl, who I don't know if I can even justifiably flirt with, since she's a student and I wont be. The fact that I wont be able to attend any kind of school function, or, you know, go to her room, seems like a bit of an obstacle to me.

I have at least another week before I get any resolution to any of this, and it's fucking killing me. This feeling of uncertainty, having no way of knowing what comes next and no way to prepare for it, is really frustrating. At the least, I can start trying to find a place to live, but other than that I have literally no control over my future for, at minimum, another 7 days.

That is all.
