Thanks  to Jodie's relentless badgering, I have finally pulled myself out of a massive funk and asked the cute girl out that's been in the back of my mind lately, now I am a little worried because I do not really "date" and also it has been reported to me that she is excited about it and I am having trouble figuring out why someone would be excited about spending three hours with me, terminated by me trying to stick my tongue into their mouth. If pressed, I might even say that might be the most horrible three hours imaginable.

I really need to develop some conversational skills with women for use when I am not surrounded by loud throbbing electronic music.

Also we got death metal rickrolled at work on karaoke night the other day, and as a result I now know that the new girl I work with is a giant nerd.

Also I am having a surprising amount of success lately marrying my love of hedonism and not being broke.

Man Brett I am so proud.  It will be rad and you will have the best time probably!  See I am useful for making people do Important things sometimes!

Ok now I will tell my story of last night properly.

Bobbit (my housemate) took me to a bar I had never been to and it turns out that a bunch of cool alternative kids hang out there I guess.  And there was this cute kind of metal-heady looking dude with pretty ringlets and a lip ring and we started talking about chickens and and kitties that we owned/had owned, and how it was illegal to keep goats on the beach without a permit (apparently) and whatnot.  And then his night was all drama drama because he was essentially baby sitting his lesbian friend who was very drunk and kept hooking up with her ex and getting in fights, so he had to leave kind of early and he asked for my number and so we traded numbers  and like an hour after i got home he texted me and we had like a ridiculous hour long message conversation about nothing, but he did mention that he really liked  me and wanted to hang out when there was no drama.

So I guess that is a pretty awesome thing!  Also guys, he uses the word rad abotu as much as I do.  This is a good thing

So today I went out for lunch with my best friend. She told me she is moving away in a month, but that she will be in the state. Last time we saw each other I was fairly distressed by our interactions but this time around I think we really clarified some things and got things even again. However, she refused to tell me where exactly she was moving to, because she did not want that information getting out.

As it stands it's a bit complicated. She's supposed to be "out of town" at the moment. There's a whole lot of drama going on between her and two of my other best friends, both of whom I met through my best friend. They are not on speaking terms. And I am not to inform my other friends of my meeting with my best friend, or her / our plans. Which I'm fine with, I'd trust my best friend with my life (not that I'd ever really want to be in that position, heh) and last time I saw her I tried to resolve all this drama. But I am no mediator, all the people involved are adults and I don't need anyone pissed off at me.

So. I'm going to miss her terribly, but this is going to have to be my year, and I'll do without her for awhile. We've committed to seeing Cut Copy next month together and Animal Collective in June, so I'll still get to see her. I'm just glad she still trusts me.

Boop boop a doop -

Last night I went over to my friend Anne's apt and we hung out and watched a movie and she may be telling one of her friends I kind of liked him and give him my number. Yay! Today I dropped off my laptop to have the optical drive unplugged/removed, then I went out to lunch with my mum, then I got a haircut (just a trim), and then I went and picked up my laptop. Yay, no god awful noises are issuing from my computer! It's kind of weird for my laptop to be silent, but I am liking it.

My coworker and I have decided that we both hate our new coworker. She's annoying, rather snobby and rude, she badgers coworker#1 about design things since he used to work for an interior design firm, she talks to (read: fights with) her boyfriend on the phone a bagillion times a day, back talks me when I try to help her out, and is generally a bitch. She's also incredibly fake to my managers, who I happen to really like, so I don't like her for that either. She also struts, which I think is hilarious. Coworker#1 wants to try to get her fired (she is the third person who's been hired since I started, it won't be hard) and I am just generally going to start ignoring her. Mostly I think she's being a snot to me because I'm being trained to be the assistant manager, which she also wanted, heh heh. But it gives me and coworker#1 something to plot in the basement, which is always fun.

Blog Thread,

I was just at the dentist's office. Apparently, the problems with my jaw popping ever so often are caused by sucking too much hard cock my wisdom teeth. And apparently I'm gonna have to get them removed one of these days.

Why?  I'm not sure I could ever sue my parents.

Because they took out bills in my name without my knowledge or consent, and when they moved out they basically said that I needed to pay those bills because they were in my name, even though they were bills for when they lived here.

But I guess, I am still being estalked by family members, and they figured out my plan and brought by money to pay the bills.

And paid my phone bill. Which I am not sure how to feel about that, or what to do about it. But I got to call my bestest friend ever in the whole world and I hadn't talked to him in awhile, and basically, the whole world could be in flames, and as long as I was talking to this kid, life couldn't be better.

So, uh, update on this I suppose. Had dinner and went out with one of the other friends, and we sort of talked about this situation though I did not divulge my knowledge of my best friend's whereabouts or activities. This friend, she'll be called the Artist, as the overuse of "friend" is bound to just get confusing. She is one of my favorite people, and it seemed like whatever was going on (still not quite clear on that point) was really bothering, like, she was trying not to cry. And this bothered me. My best friend had warned me that Artist and her partner would be telling untruths about her, but Artist is so... well, I've never known her to be spiteful. She's flighty and usually quite upbeat but she's human and I wouldn't put it past her to be petty.

And that's the thing that fucks me, really. Somebody is lying here, somebody's at the center of it, and it could be either of the parties. And I don't care, really. I love everybody involved in this thing, I just want them to be happy. I'd like to think that things could go back to the way that they were. I know these people were really truly friends once. But maybe it's best now that these friendships are well and truly dead (the sense I get is that the conflict is sordid and romantic in nature and there's betrayal and yadda yadda) It's just that the way things are right now is sad and I don't want to accept it.

I'm thinking at the moment I should butt the fuck out. All I can really do is be friends to both my best friend and Artist and co. while keeping them as separated as I can manage, which is not optimal, but it's all I have. I know with a fair degree of certainty that any more attempts to mediate or facilitate communication will result in a loss of trust and my best friend cutting me out of her life the way I had always feared she would. I can only really hope that, as adults, they'll come to some sort of resolution to this themselves. This impulse to stay out of it might not hold my impulse to attempt the alleviation of my friends' suffering at bay. So I'm in a bind.

I guess what continues to bother me aside from the general shittiness of the situation is that Artist told me that she believes that I am at heart, a decent and pure person, which was terribly gratifying to hear but my position here makes me feel exceptionally dishonest.

Guh, I hope this apprehension is out of me by tomorrow morning.

Also I saw my friend's band play tonight, with my friend's dad, a pro sax player who used to tour with BB King in the 70's. He tore that shit up, put a real Funhouse spin on their material. It was awesome.

i called the cops on my neighbor for the second time this year and he still hasn't turned down his ridiculously loud music so i called back to ask what happened and they said he pretty much told the cops who arrived at his door to fuck off and leave him alone. i've already talked to him in person a billion times. why can't you turn down your music, guy, don't you realize how incredibly stupid loud it is? it sounds like i'm listening to it in my room only we are in totally different houses. i don't know what is wrong with him but i think there is something wrong with him.

John. It is not your responsibility to sort out whatever it is they're doing. Not. It sounds like it's a really complicated situation that you've been dragged into, and to be honest for anyone who is not directly involved (ie you) it will probably remain completely unfathomable. There's nothing you can do to help fix it and if you try to stay in the middle ground and keep out of it without causing trouble you'll just get stressed and worry.

I'd say it's probably lucky in a way that your friend is moving away for a while, because it will let things die down and stop you having to distance yourself from the drama. Last year my group of friends went through a similar thing, with a major rift affecting lots of people, and it is now fixed mostly because one person moved away.

I guess what I'm trying to say is you are Good People and you should stop trying to fix the world :-)

So, blog thread, today was busy day at work and I felt ugh ill for most of it which wasn't much fun. But now it is over! And I'm home! And I don't have to work tomorrow! I also bought a bottle of wine (a little tiny one) as a present for my dad, and felt all grown up. It's the first time I've ever bought alcohol, obviously since I only turned 18 four days ago, and even though I won't be drinking it I was excited to buy wine.

Dear blog thread,

It is such a nice day out!

I woke up early this morning and went to the post office to try to sort out my mail issuses. The postman basically told me that I was ridiculous if I thought that I could fill out a change address form there for an address in Collinsville. My address was never supposed to change. I have not moved out of Edwardsville. My family did. They moved to Collinsville. I stayed here. My address never changed. After explaining all of that to him, he basically brushed off everything and ignored me. I doubt any of my mail situation is going to get sorted out.

Then I went to work, and was sent home two hours early. This has me a slight bit worried.

But when I got home, I took my dog on a one and a half hour walk, because the weather is so nice. I was planning on riding my bike when I got home, but we are both so pooped. Maybe I will nap, then ride my bike.

Dear Blog Thread,

You may have noticed that Harry has been talking about the weather a lot lately. Well there have been a lot of bushfires (more than 400, according to the news) raging through Victoria (the state he and a a few other regulars live in), which have killed at least 25 people already. I hope people down there are keeping safe, and are doing ok, along with any of their loved ones. Bushfires are pretty nasty for a lot of things around here.

Man, here I was going to ask if anyone wants a shitload of basil, and I stupidly checked the news. I think hoping everyone is alright is probably more appropriate right now.

Dear Blog thread:

Last night I made my best friend watch Gossip Girl with me and he totally got into it, even if he wants to deny it. Also, I got extremely drunk, loud and beligerent and hurled remnants of hotdog on people's lawns after seeing a LCD Soundsystem/Hercules & Love Affair dj set. I also managed to yell at many groups of girls that they were "pushy skanks". Basically, I am glad I got out of that club without being in a fight. I think praise has to go to my best friend for keeping me somewhat under control and providing me with a place to crash. Although, he can also be blamed for my behaviour as he was the main provider of the large amount of alcohol I managed to consume.

Last night I engaged in some quality hedonism. I hit up a house party, hung out with a crowd of people having a costume party at the pub, wound up back at their house drinking some sick combination of OP Rum, Tequila, and Orange juice, then wound up at my friends house eating hash brownies and shooting vodka and wound up passing out in her bed after circumstances threw an incredibly creepy dude onto her couch. Seriously. Who sleeps on someones couch naked?

Creepers. Or just strange dudes. You guys sanitized the couch afterwards, right? Please don't sit on it. Please get rid of it.

Guys, I have a super crush on my best friend. Well, maybe not super. I have a casual crush on my best friend. It just seems natural, like the sky being blue. It just fits. Today he called me cute. And it was strange. It occured to me that he may like me, and well, that just can't be. Because if we dated, it'd be way too awesome and perfect. And that doesn't make sense. But whatevs. I just want to see him soon.

I will. Usually there is at least a little bit of spooning when we see each other. That's prime "sticking it in his pooper" time.

At least now I know what my next big purchase is: Darkroom equipment. I am reluctant to spend a lot of money on it before Chicagocon though, maybe I could pick up an enlarger in Chicago?

If you are wanting to put a darkroom together, my dad has an enlarger that he does not use anymore and has talked about getting rid of.  It's a bit outdated, but it still works well.  I could ask him what he is willing to sell for.  My parents live about 100 miles from Chicago.

I spent most of last night surrounded by couples whilst drinking a lot of whisky in a house for one of my friends birthdays, a good time was had by all.

Also, getting my comedy material ready for stand-up in a few weeks, hopefully I will do okay.

Sorry about your forest fires, dudes down under.
Emaline, there is only one way to find out and while sticking it in his pooper goes in the same direction, I suggest you clear it with the guy first. You'd expect the same courtesy.

So it was the end of the semester for my best friend and I went up to his town to visit him.
Being the reckless self-destructing ass-wrangler that he is, he had procured some sort of white powder to assist with the party-making.
Friday night was pretty dull but we only made it home at 6 so most of daytime Saturday was spent sleeping.

But Saturday night oh my God guys oh my God.
I can't get into details until I see the pictures myself.
But I'm pretty sure that I made out with a woman in one place and then a woman in another place gave me the sauciest of little notes as she left.
When we went back to the first place, my best friend derailed our plan of going home together by (semi-loudly) proclaiming he would make love to a woman we had just met.
(Cleaned up the language there a little in case there are youngins close by.)

So after living in a shell for the last six weeks due to various medical ailments and plain' ol' unemployment, I got out for the first time and it was a magnificent feeling.
The girl with the saucy note left me her number and said she'd be out of town (which is sorta irrelevant info if you don't know where she is from at all) but would be "back" next week.
I'm sort of excited.

I'm not going to stick it in his pooper. I don't think he'd be very apperciative of that. But i would of course ask him if it is ok first.

That is one crazy schedule.

Guys, today an epic battle took place between me, some knickers, and the blades of the washing machine. My finger was a casualty in this battle, so I bled all over my freshly washed whites, so they are being washed again. The finger is bandaged and has been prescribed a good night's sleep. Good news on the front, however, is that I got new shoes before this horrific event.

Dear Blog Brag thread,

As of today, I guess I am officially a real science-journalist-type person, as I have just had my first article published in a reputable newspaper. The West Australian, of all places. It was about a small species of bat which is about to go extinct unless the government funds an expensive captive-breeding program. Hopefully some media/public attention will make them more likely to try and save the little guys.

Love,

-Nick.

Yeah, I know what you mean - it can be pretty uh, tabloidy.

I just meant a proper commercial newspaper.

Incidentally, it wasn't my first choice. And one of the (major) papers I contacted about the story ended up running it, but using their own reporter for the job.
