Are you sure the West Australian is a reputable newspaper?

Hey man, I work for The West.

(it's not)

Hey by the way congratulations Nick! I will keep an eye out for the article.

It's on page 18. It would have been page eight if it wasn't for the bushfires.

There are a lot of australian people here.

Does this newspaper have a site that you can browse articles on? If so someone should post it.

In other news: I am sending valentines cards out to all my single friends, so that they won't feel bad, is this 1. A good idea or 2. Hideously creepy.

Well I am single myself, so I hoped it would not come across as that.

Also, some friends of mine up in Edinburgh have boyfriends who don't celebrate it, so I am sending them up a card.

Well, let me put it this way, originally Valentines day was a Roman equvalent of wife swapping.

People would put the names of all the... eligible girls into a hat and then the men would draw lots to them, then the sexing. It was only after Christianity caught on in a big way that the meaning changed to one of "wuvy lovey love love"

The best kind of hat for drawing names out of is a bowler hat. Real tawk.

That depends on whether you've got somebody to hold the hat, or you're just going to put it down on a table or something. A bowler hat would be less than ideal for the latter - you'd need something with a flat top. Like a top hat.

Also, you can fit so many more names in a top hat.

YOU GUYS! I think we're all forgetting that complimenting Jodie is what is wrong with this forum and why everyone hates us and our cliques. DO NOT SEND HER VALENTINES OR ANY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IF YOU VALUE THE FORUMS. And especially don't do it in meebly, that's the worst. Its almost like burning a flag being carried by a WWII vet.

I've got boners for pretty much everyone here, seriously. When did the internet get so pretty?

Internet, I am drinking. And drinking. And drinking.

Internet, find me someone who has lots of money, so every night, I can cook for them, and they will let me use their money to buy good food, and books.

Internet, I met some dude, and we were talking talking talking about music, and how we both really like punk and liked the local scene for awhile, and then he asked me  who I'm into now, and I told him that lately I'm into folk, and he totally likes folk too! And he has a bunch of Cat Stevens records, and Simon and Garfunkel and oh man. Dude likes Broken Social Scene too! Oh man. Watch him turn out to be a ghost as well.

i'm not sure why you constantly single yourself out as selfish. everyone is selfish to some degree, they just don't think about it as much as you apparently do. you should try thinking of it from the perspective that, unlike most other people, your selfishness happens to manifest itself in the form of constant altruism. stop focusing on the whys, if you're nice to people and it works then just roll with it.

Tommy, extricate yourself from any situation in which this person would bother you.

I have a few new songs. The first one I made with Leafcutter John's free "Forester" program. It loads 6 random 8-second sound clips (non-mp3) from a folder of your choice and represents them as colored circles on a plane. You run your cursor over them and it dynamically creates sound. Record and load back into your program of choice and boom, electronic drone sound.

The song I built out of that drone ended up being really Boards of Canada-y, or rather, early BoC-y. I like it but I'd never be able to really show it to anyone.

Also I'm writing an essay on the Cato Institute. Those are some white-ass motherfuckers.

I find that once you realize just how connected your own happiness is to the people around you, and how many ways there are for each to feed back into the other, being selfish and being altruistic become kind of the same thing and being nice suddenly is more fun than anything.

Tommy, stay out of my conversations with my meatlife friends. I basically told one of my friends that I am terribly selfish because I am a music elitist, and that makes me horrible.

But I don't want to date someone who likes Dave Matthews and Matchbox 20. No. I just don't see how we are compatible.

And then my meatlife, vaguely goth, very angry/mopey/bitter/cynical friend told me that he likes Dave Matthews and Matchbox 20 makes him sad(but I am certain that it doesn't make him sad the same way it makes me sad). Then I realized I was glad we never dated.

Also, I just finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, and I am in tears. Fuck. I don't want my kids to grow up, and I don't want to leave my previously mentioned friend ever.

Dear Blog thread,

When I see my girlfriend and think of valentines day approaching I think two things.  First I think to myself how it would be great to plan something out real romantic like a fancy dinner and possibly take her to a live theatre(which doesn't exist around here).  Maybe afterwards I could get some massage oil and give her a good old fassion back massage and give her some flowers too.  You know be real nice to her....

But then I remember that's going to cut into my beer fund.  So i'll just tell her I have the flu and that she's pretty or something.

You are the type of person that I hate. I bet that your girlfriend is probably pretty attractive, but probably has low self esteem because she has to deal with people like you all the time. Don't be a douche, its fucking valentines day.

Dear Blog Thread,
If I miss class on mondays 2 more times, I get kicked out. This fucking sucks because I work nights and shit, so I have trouble waking up during the day to make it to class. I just have to pray that I don't miss another class on monday for like another 2 months.
