fucking hell, flight delayed 2.5 hours... now sitting in the world's smallest airport

Which one? I got a 19-hour/overnight layover in Newark, NJ one time, and it was truly awful. Wherever you are, you have my sympathies.

I'm being post-heavy tonight guys and I apologize! I was banned from the other forums I go to. Again. Fuckers.

Blaggy,

I was supposed to go to a free concert today but had a little breakdown last night in Walmart and realized that despite the fact that I feel okay *now* doesn't mean that being around several hundred people in a crowded venue *later* won't fuck with my head, so I elected not to go.

Instead I de-strung and polished my dulcimer, wrote a song, did yardwork, planted things, helped to rebuild the neighbour's porch and started painting the house, and then sat on my porch while it rained and played Mozart on violin which happens to be a really awesome way to unwind.

Today was a good day.

what, is that a book glued to the top or something

Oh, you poor, poor, backwards European. You would understand what such things are if your land hadn't been so ravaged by socialism and torn apart by domestic violence that you have all reverted back to the dark ages.

You see, we (superior) Americans go to these things called schools, where we get good learning done. Once we've learned enough to feel superior to all other countries on the planet we get those hats as a sign of our glorious majesty.

If only more of you filthy socialists learned something from the US...

I have had a slight mouse problem recently, but other than them nibbling on a 2 dollar scarf that I use as a tablecloth, there didn't seem to be any major problem with them, so I was leaving them be and hoping they didn't make my room smell like mouse wee. All was fine, and I haven't even heard them scuttling about lately.

Just a moment ago I remembered I had some King Size Reese's Peanut Butter Cups that I was going to give to jodie but got all melted and deformed so I kept for myself in a drawer of my desk. I brought out the packet I had opened a while ago, and found out what the mice had been nibbling at. I had forgotten that mice like peanut butter! All three of the cups in the packed had been eaten up :(.

Luckily, the other (unopened) packet has not even been touched! I will now gobble them up so that the meeses can't get to them. I still probably won't put out any baits to kill them. That seems like a little bit of an overreaction.

So Bloggy McBlog-Thread,

I'm in Cypress, Texas, outside of Houston, until the end of this month since my mother decided we're staying with my sisters for a bit.  I really need to find something to do.  I've been here for 6 days so far and have done absolutely nothing.  But! I did meet a cute girl today who I may be playing videogames with if my brother-in-law decides to go to his friends house.

So does anyone know of anything to do in the Houston area?  I've looked up venues and whatnot around Houston and no one interesting is playing this month it seems.  I'm really suffering from show-withdrawal.

lessthanthreeyou,
Eric

ps:  There is a guitar shop close that has a Tiny Terror for sell and oh god I want it.

Oh, Jens, how you are trying. I share the last name with a woman on... I don't remember if it's TV2 or NRK. The middle name comes from my grandfather, who used to be the leader of the 17th of May-committee in Bergen. Let me see your stalker SKILLZ. Send me a postcard if you want to.

Oh, yes, Blog, it's really ridiculously hard to get a job. I'm trying to be creative. One girl just told me she got a job carrying milk, and I'd be happy with that.

I have had a slight mouse problem recently

A slight mouse problem will turn into a big mouse problem. They may be cute, but you can't just leave them scurrying about your home! They'll chew through important things, spread diseases, breed, etc. Get some humane traps and put them somewhere outside, far away!

This is the second time we have had mice in the 7 years I have lived here. The first time we had mice my cat managed to catch a single (tiny) mouse and they just went away. This time they are here because my dad had an open packet of raw peanuts in the garage and they came back to eat them.

At my old house we had a huge number of mice in our garage. We put out little blocks of poison which would make them thirsty and run off and die, and I would sit at the doorway of the garage and watch a mob of mice fighting over the block of bait and see them try and drag it to various parts of the shed to try and keep it away from the others. I have a packet of those baits in my room, but at the moment I am keeping an eye out in case I see any, or see any damage before I put these baits out, as we have a small, stupid dog that spends most of its time inside and while I hate the damn thing, I don't want it to eat the mouse baits. I am also taking precautions so that my food doesn't get mouse-nibbled in our pantry. As long as I can keep them out of the house the cats that both my neighbours own can deal with them.

Congrats on your silly face, Ally! That's good, but I think you can do better next time! All the best and good luck for the future and stuff.

The next time we went up there, the mice had somehow maneuvered all the blocks of poison into dad's slippers, and not taken a single bite out of any of them.

This is cool.

We put out little blocks of poison which would make them thirsty and run off and die, and I would sit at the doorway of the garage and watch a mob of mice fighting over the block of bait and see them try and drag it to various parts of the shed to try and keep it away from the others.

This is terrifying.

I have never learnt so much about Norwegian names in one hour before.

Anyway, I have decided one of these is probably your name:
Baste Sau Esbensen
Baste Sasseen Buen

How far off am I?

You wouldn't believe how long I have spent trying to work it out. I have used anagram websites, LinkedIn (to try and find that TV woman's name, with no luck), a website that tells you how many people in Norway have each name, a translation site to understand the 17-mai website. And at the end of it I've just had to guess.

Can you tell I have five exams next week? I've actually done quite a bit of work towards them today. Now to go to work and then out to a dance afterwards, and tomorrow work all day and a party in the evening so no more work until Sunday I think.

We had a mouse problem once, and our neighbour lent us his humane trap. We put it under the sink. And forgot to check it.
Some days later, my housemates found two and a half mice in it.

Dear blog thread,

Today I almost got mugged. I was leaving the biker bar that I frequent, and I turn the corner, and these two guys come up and start acting shady and talking to me about how they need to borrow my phone. One guy stood behind me, which is how I knew INSTANTLY that shit was going down. I lied my standard don't give your phone to strangers lie and was like "Sorry guys my phone is out of credit" and they're like "Here I have a recharge card for you, I just need your phone" and I'm like "You don't even know what company I use!" and the guy in my way started looking all pissed off. The other guy started feeling my back pocket for my wallet, which I had my hand covering (when talking to shady-looking characters I ALWAYS put my thumbs in my back pockets).

Anyway, so the one guy starts touching at my pocket, grabbing my phone, and (continuing in Albanian, I'd never say this in English) I'm like "Hey you fucking faggot bitch, did I say that was okay?" and he starts getting even pushier about it and I'm like "Listen, sisterfucker, I am going to go home. I don't have time for this." He replied with a punch to my arm and a "Fuck your mother" to which I replied "Yeah, well fuck your whole family" and I plowed my right shoulder directly into his sternum, moving him out of the way by doing so, and started walking, listening for footsteps behind me.

The other guy yelled "Fuck you, eat my dick" and I just grinned at him and yelled back "You too, sweetheart" and carried on.

The shitty thing is that I have to report things like that to the security officer so that Washington knows about it and can mention things like that in their briefings to incoming transfer people. Which sucks, because shit like this NEVER happens here.

Love,
Me!

I'm driving up from Reisterstown to Westminster(15-20 minute drive) in a bit to see my friend, then we're going to the mall and I'm getting my ears pierced. I will report back with pictures to the tattoo/bodymod thread. I am terrible at planning things, meant to get this done months ago now. Anyway, I'm making sure I get them pierced before I go to France on Monday so I can piss off my mom and airport security. Also I'm excited, really excited, about Paris. I missed out on this pretty much last year when I went to Tronnocon and I don't regret it 'cause everyone there rocked awesome but I still really kinda wished I could go to France, and so in a way it works out better this year because I don't have to pay for the Paris course, because I am broke.Still.

Oh man, ran into a friend* at the mall and his new girlfriend, bad timing apparently. They were caught shoplifting and basically the next 15 minutes me and the other guy I went with spent trying to not get involved. What was wierd is that they we ran into them at all, neither of them live up there so I'm not sure why they even chose to go to that mall, its not even as good as the one close to home.

Also got my ears pierced, but not by the piercing Pagoda because they use a gun and their selection sucks and I wanted to use the 14g blue metal horseshoe spiked ones that I purchased previously. Ended up my brother had a friend who happens to do piercing as a hobby, and he was really clean about it and the needles were single-use sterilized needles and shit and washing of the hands and stuff. My left ear hurt a ton because I think he was just doing it at the wrong angle, right ear was way easier. they look awesome and I'm super happy, left ear is a bit sore still but its all good. Got a lecture in how to clean it too, sowed my mom who's just worried that I'm going to forget to bring along alcohol and cutips to clean it while I'm in France. If no one has noticed I have had a couple cans/bottles of courage juice, and so I may be a little drunk. This post could probably fit under the tattoo thread, the blog thread, or the drunk thread, but my decision making skills have decided to put it in here. I'm going to drink more now.

Congrats on the piercings!

But for the love of god don't use alcohol. That is a  terrible idea. These are the things you will need:

Sea Salt
8oz cup
teaspoon
Shot Glass
Warm Water

Put a teaspoon of salt in the cup, put in warm to hot water, stir it to dissolve and then pour some water in a shot glass to soak the earlobe. Soak it a couple of times per day and make sure to rinse it off to make sure you get the salt off. If it's angry you might up it to 3 times a day, but otherwise just leave it alone. Alcohol is in general going to do a lot more harm than good by irritating the hell out of it. Good luck with the healing!

Or if you don't have a shot glass, use cotton balls soaked in the saline. That's what my piercer told me to do as it's easier than shot glasses.

Blog thread! Today I slept in due to being out late drinkin and singin last night and then I killed some weeds, plugged bee holes in my porch, and played with my kitty before he decided he wanted to stalk bunnies and I threw him back in the house. Also, my best friend is in town, so I took her out and we had a marvelous time. We had pub food and stopped by a bookstore so she could grab books for her daughter. I picked up Pride and Prejudice and zombies, yay! Tomorrow I have work, bleh, and then will be taking said best friend and her husband along with me to Rocky Horror with a friend and coworker and we will have jolly good fun.

I had a Lord of the Rings marathon today with two friends. We didn't fully finish any of the movies. Oh, well. It was fun.

Today I saw a super great and charming movie called O'Horten, and it's music was done by Kaada. Super-plus!

I took a long walk tonight around campus.  A baby horse licked my hand, a deer trotted past us, and we watched a mama owl leave her four baby owls to go hunt for food.

I'm in love with this town.

Dear blerg threed.

Today Lunchy and I helped Jimmy move, which basically meant picking up some boxes and taking them up stairs.  My input would have been a hell of a lot more if my car worked, but it is at the garage at the moment and so we took Lunchy's car instead.  It was good times though, Jimmy's new place is hells of rad and when the sun sets it hits the buildings of the Sydney skyline and turns them all a golden yellowy orange and it's completely aces.

If you're unfortunate enough to get infected, which can happen no matter how well you take care of a new piercing, my piercer uses a 50/50 mix of alchohol and peroxide, with a few drops of tea tree oil mixed in. This has been his almost foolproof solution for cleaning infected areas for years, and it works really well. The tea tree oil makes it kind of burn-y, but also smells amazing, so there's that!

Don't use peroxide. It won't do anything to the bacteria you have to worry about most in that type of infection.

Good News blogthread,

Got over my week of depression by spending Thursday with my nana, I'll probably spend a lot more time with her in the coming weeks as she is thinking about not taking her Cumadin. See, she had a stroke a quite a few months back, and cumadin is an anti-coagulant. Now she is under 5' tall and maybe gets close to 80lbs if she is wearing a heavy coat, and she is afraid to move around in her house in case she falls or bruises herself and the bleeding doesn't stop. For most people, this wouldn't be a problem, they'd just apply pressure and wait it out. Well, she's only got the use of her left arm/hand due to polio. She hopes if she has another stroke while she is not on the cumadin that it will affect her right side. I'm afraid it will affect her left (this would mean she has no working arms/hands) or possibly she will die. This is devastating to me when I begin to put it in perspective and I realized that I have nothing to be sad about at this current juncture. I mean, if she is still happy about everything and is working to find ways to enjoy life, why shouldn't I?
So I am endeavoring to go over to her house more often so I can have her tell me about her life, I realized that I have small bits and stories, but never a full detail about how she met my grandpa, how my mom and uncles were like growing up? What it was like to grow up, and be extremely intelligent (she graduated high school at 16) but always be called handicapped and at some points I believe she has told us they called her retarded because her arm did not work. She turns 80 this year, she has already seen one of her granddaughters get married (4 grandkids, I'm the only son, youngest, and 60 years younger than her) so I think she may have resigned to the fact that she could go anytime.

tl;dr nana might die in the next year, want to spend more time with her

In other less bright news, I am no longer a red belt, I lost a rank for missing class without calling and I am now a blue belt 3rd stripe again. I didn't realize that I had messed up until I put on my old belt and walked into the school. The other students that had seen me around looked, I knew they all had known I was a red belt, only two of them asked me what happened. It really let me know that I fucked up, and I won't be doing that again.

tl;dr Lost rank in Kung Fu, was ashamed.

Finally, and on a more hilarious note,
last night I was looking around for extra bits for my Bretonnian army because I decided to do a fun little thing and paint squires for all of the knights that were characters in the army, since I wanted to have the model represented with a lance, but I didn't have a place ON the model to put the lance (see he was holding a sword to set him apart as a character) so I made little squires that run next to the knight (thematically of course) holding a lance and otherwise looking squire-ly. So, as I was looking for bits, I found a cool looking book, now the book was connected by 4 points, and it was a small book, about 1.5" across, and 1" tall. I had found the bit on the sprue in my closet, so I didn't really want to go out to the living room where I was working to grab clippers and cut it out, that'd take way too much time. So I tried to twist it, and push a bit, and pull, and I finally ended up placing my thumb on the book, and pushing forward while pulling with the other hand. Got the book out, and scraped my thumb. "ouch" I thought as I looked at the thumb and brought it to my mouth, I tasted blood, and so I walked out to the kitchen and grabbed three napkins to put on it (cheap napkins). I pulled the napkins away after I noticed the blood seeping through, and realized that I should probably put a bandaid on this bad boy, not just superglue (my usual remedy for small cuts). Luckily my flatmate is prepared for things like cuts, so when I didn't have a bandaid, he did and gave me one to place over it, now this is a large bandaid, and the cut just barely fits under the width of the bandaid. And it curves and isn't very clean because I was cut by plastic. I have done this before, on at least 2 occasions. I never seem to learn. Worst thing about getting a cut while working on miniatures, (as an aside, I am not squeamish at all when it comes to my own blood, generally it is blood of family members that I don't like to see) is that the thought process does not go "OH SHIT, I cut myself, I am bleeding, I gotta stop this" it goes "OH SHIT, I cut myself, now I'm gonna have to stop working on this, and go look for a bandaid, and get some neosporin, and get up from my seat where I'm comfortable, and oh I should probably stop this bleeding at some point"

tl;dr I didn't respect my miniatures, they conspired to cut me, did so.

But today is Saturday, and we are planning on playing a superhero based miniatures game that is very fun, I am excited! And the past 3 or 4 days, I have woken up very early and I feel great.
