At first I was kinda sad about this when I read it on the message board the other day, but then I listened to Silver Jews' entire discography and it made me feel better.

I hope he goes back on this later. The man is FAR too talented a songwriter to give it up for good.

[His poetry's pretty excellent too but he's already said he's not going to do any more of that. *sigh*]

There aren't too many artists out there who can make an album that gets better with every listen. There are even fewer who can make a whole career full of albums like that. It'd be churlish of me as a fan to ask for anything more from Berman, and if he's made this decision and the decision makes him happy, then god knows he's earned that happiness. So thanks for the records, Mr. Berman. I'll be sad knowing that there aren't any more to look forward to, I'll be even sadder knowing now that I'll never see you perform live, but most of all I'll be happy knowing that somewhere out there you're still alive, and still trying to do whatever it is you want to do and living whatever the life is that you want to live.
