I just don't see it. So many people have so many boners for them. I don't. I just don't see why people think they are so amazing. They're ok, but seriously. Why does everyone act like they are even near the same league as a group like.... The Beatles, for example? I can't stand to listen to them for much more than one song. I like a few singles, but I find their albums generally lacking. Is there something I am missing? Why does everybody worship them so much? I mean, I like weird, arty shit. I like mopey bastards. I like the idea of Radiohead, just not the music. I don't know. Someone care to explain it to me? Anyone else want to join me in my dislike of them?

Emaline you know better than to make this thread. Are we supposed to produce reasons for you to like them? Or commiserate about how bad they are?

It just plain lacks a sense of purpose.

No. What I am looking for is for somebody to give me a reason why people love them so much. I have never thought they were that original, or that different from anything out there. Maybe it's because I live in a small town, but everybody out here seems to think they are so much different from anything ever, and I just don't see it. They seem like just another generic rock band out there. Nothing too different from anything else on the radio. Maybe I'm missing something that does make them different. Am I mistaken in believing that they aren't very original? Are they doing something different?

If no one can provide me with that, I'd at least like to know I'm not alone. I mean, I guess I'd like to think that I listen to some pretty good music. I can be kind of a snob, admittedly. I always thought I had good taste, but it seems my dislike for Radiohead is contrary to that. I work at a record store. Everyone there loves them. I don't see it. Every music snob I know likes them. I almost feel dumb for not liking them, you know? I feel like I should like them. Does that make sense? It's like people expect me to. Like because of my taste, I should like them. I feel like people just expect me to like them because everyone everywhere does. Like white bread. Everyone loves white bread. They eat that shit up. But I don't. I don't like white bread. It tastes like bleach, or has no taste at all. It's bland. It's boring. I prefer wheat bread. And I want to know that I'm not alone in that.

Anyways I'm not sure if I fit in as a groupie, but I they are enjoyable when I want to listen to relaxing tracks. Or just look up their lyrics and see if you can find any subtleties that you might've missed whilst listening to them.

As for relaxing music, some overly emotional dude whining at me is not very relaxing. I can't stand Thom Yorke's voice. It's just so ...annoying. It's not relaxing. If I want something seriously relaxing and completely calm, I'd go for some mogwai, Tortoise, Explosions In The Sky, or some Joanna Newsom, Iron and Wine, or M. Ward. I mean, post rock is hella calming, harp is all kinds of nap time, and soothing voices soothe.

Personal opinions combined with mob mentality. Its uncool not to worship them, or in situations like this, to not profess your dislike, because we disliked them all along, right?

It's topic I like to rage about every once in a while because this Forum is notorious for this way of thinking.

If you don't like Radiohead, it's an opinion, and its yours. Other peoples feelings on the subject should be irrelevant, so build a bridge and get over it. There are far more people who like, oh, say, Nickelback than Radiohead, so why not replace every instance of one for the other in your original post.

Perhaps you should be a little less defensive. I dislike Radiohead. Lots of people dislike Radiohead. Me posting this doesn't have some kind of hidden motive - I am not posting this to agitate you, make you feel like a douchebag, steal your job, overthrow your government, cause mass suicides, anything but state that I, and others, aren't fond of Radiohead.

What? In hard rock? Breaking Benjamin, Creed, Seether. I don`t really like these types of bands for long, they get old pretty fast, and I`m usually looking for something harder or more original sounding after listening to them...

Well, you shouldn't. I love loads of stuff that a lot of people on here - and in some cases everybody in the known universe - think is awful. So just don't feel bad. Why care what people think? I liked The Bends and Pablo Honey. I thought OK Computer was alright. I have pretty much hated everything by Radiohead since then. You are not alone or weird or anything, Emaline.

RE: Nickelback, their first album or two were actually kinda ok? I mean, very derivative, not amazing, but not vomit-inducing terrible.

Radiohead are so popular for the same reason as all the other popular bands. Big money is spent on getting their names out there and getting the music heard. The quality of the product has nothing to do with it. Similar bands to radiohead and been and gone, tried and failed. Not because they were any worse, but because they didn't have the financial backing to make people like them.

Yes, there are better bands than Radiohead. But that's tough to say if you've never heard of them.

I like Kid A. The rest of Radiohead has gotten boring for me. I used to idolize Radiohead because I was a teenager and a Pitchfork junkie, but I've since encountered much better bands.

i think The Bends is a solid album, little if any filler to be found on that. but i bought OK computer, and aside from a couple of tracks, it bored me half to death. i like a few of their other singles i've heard, but generally, i think they're pretty overrated.

But equally, the quality is not necessarily shit because of it.

When I lived in Hackney, I heard a concert in Victoria Park behind my house, while walking the dogs. I liked what I heard enough to take the trouble to find out who was playing - it was Radiohead. But I don't like all their stuff equally; for some reason I don't enjoy OK Computer.

Nobody cares that you don't like Radiohead. This statement serves two purposes:
1. Stop feeling bad for not liking Radiohead, that is terrible.
2. This thread is a horrible idea. "Hey guys, let's wallow around about not liking a band that some people like." This is just as bad as the overrated bands thread.

dont ever ask a hardcore radiohead fan for reasons, they'd never stop bothering you. you mentioned you think their songs are generic, can you tell us honestly how much you've listened to a radiohead album in full? which albums would they be? not liking radiohead is okay, but saying they sound like every other band out there is a bit perplexing, at least

I'm not sure about this promotion thing. Kid A was a huge succes but had no singles or videos or anything besides those blip thingies that floated around the internet for a bit (or maybe those were more popular than I think *shrug*) The fact that it leaked early was probably the biggest factor.
The fact that it was also a hugely polarizing album because of it's sound kinda defeats the whole "similar bands" being around. I think they're pretty... eccentric for a mainstream rock band.

The band is not as huge as some people think tho. Nothing they ever did ever got even close to... say... U2's worst albums (sales wise)

On another note. It seems to be popular not to like Radiohead lately. This is like the fourth forum I've seen a thread like this on this year? For some reason Muse fans have a problem with the band
