X-Men Origins: Wolverine Redux
« on: 18 Feb 2009, 10:40 »

Well, we had a post on this a long while back, but it hasn't been posted in since early August, sooo...in an effort to avoid anybody responding directly to points made six months ago, here's a fresh one:

This past week at NYCC, Fox released three new short trailers to go along with the previous theatricals, all three can be found here.

The trailers feature some potentially heavy spoilers regarding Wolverine's childhood and a couple of surprise character cameos, so be forewarned. As a longtime fan of the X-Men comics, I'm having a lot of trouble not being excited for this after all of the trailers, which are VERY comic accurate for those curious.

What is it about the first trailers that bummed you, SWM? I've liked every trailer.

Dazed, you know Gambit's been showing up in trailers since like November, right?

I am excited for this movie. But then again, I was interested from when I first heard about it and the previews look pretty good.

Why Gambit sucks.

I am fairly excited about this movie! After Xmen 3, I kind of lost hope in the franchise. But after seeing a few of the trailers, I have a glimmer of hope again.

Yes! Gambit! I have been waiting for him to be in a movie since the first xmen.
He is the awesome.

The only thing about the trailers that gives me a little sense of hesitation about this movie is the part at the end of one where Wolverine basically flips a car and jumps onto a helicopter. Yeah....
Does that part bug anyone else?

Prequel, with the bulk of the plot occurring approximately twenty years prior to the first X-Men movie.

I'm assuming there'll be lots of sexy shirtless Ryan Reynolds in the movie then.

I've been on tenter-hooks ever since I heard they were making this film, even more so since I heard Ryan Reynolds was playing Deadpool. I honestly can't wait for this film and you better believe I am going to grow my hair out and style it like Wolverine for when I go see the film.

It is times like these I wish I had 12" adamantium claws. Ah well.

It was revealed at a con months ago that Cyclops will have a cameo as a prisoner of Weapon X, it's definitely Summers. I'm also of the mind that this might be a springboard to potentially involve Sinister in a vague cameo.

When the "Deadpool" name sticker is removed it reveals the following information:

Quote
The Weapon 11 program has created the ultimate mutant-DEADPOOL! As the mutant menace rampages across Three Mile Island, Logan and Victor Creed are forced to team up--or be destroyed.

also, IMDB on Weapon XI

It doesn't add up to me. While I'm no stranger to movies changing characters for creative license, it just doesn't seem true to me. Why use a completely separate actor for the character's eventual destination? There's been a lot of rumors that Fox and Ryan Reynolds wouldn't mind using this movie as a Deadpool solo movie and altering the character and using a different actor after the change seems counter productive for that. The only way I can see it working that way is if he's altered and then reverted in the course of the movie.

Honestly, I find myself putting more stock in the likelihood of a printing error on the part of Hasbro. This alleged Deadpool seems like nothing the comics have ever done, is not played by Ryan Reynolds and really doesn't add up in any way.

My hopes are still high for this movie, at least.

I absolutely cannot stand trailers like this.  I watched the latest Origins trailer when I saw Watchmen and I had to turn and talk to my friend halfway through to distract me cause they give away almost the whole movie.  Why why why do people insist on trailers heavy with spoilers?!!

Maybe "Deadpool" gets defeated, horribly scarred and loses all of his acquired powers, but remembers his Wade Wilson side, and then becomes the wonderful Deadpool we know we love just in time for his own movie OH COME ON WHAT THE HELL, WHY NOT JUST MAKE A BRAND NEW CHARACTER, YOU ASSHOLES?

I stand corrected. Having watched the leaked pre-screener, I can say that this movie was the absolute definition of mediocrity. I was able to make enough excuses to rationalize X3 as being halfway decent, but I can't even do that for this. It's just...not a good movie in any way, shape or form. The movie falls into pretty much every single bad action movie cliche. Save yourself ten bucks and just download a Steven Segal movie, it's pretty much the same thing.
