I was like, WTF is going on, until that last frame.

I wish my dreams had that much detail (but also weren't as disturbing).

Man, this guest strip made me feel like I was sneaking a peek at a Warren magazine in the '70's (Wasn't old enough to buy horror mags). Well, except the Daft Punk CD. It'd have to be an 8-track of Pink Floyd.

Yes, I think (hope) we've all been there, where it's easier to say, "Nope, no memorable dream last night," than to detail the gore-fest that would likely have me put on some kind of terrorist watchlist, or deported to some place that condones torture just because it's a safer option than therapy.

I either don't remember my dreams or they're these huge cinematic productions. I'll tell people my disturbing dreams. I don't care how crazy or gory they are. My favorite recurring dream actually ends with me impaled through the chest and pinned to the ground, diagonal to the floor, while my side is overrun in an epic battle scene. By vampires!

My favorite dream was the one where I achieved time travel by eating pita bread with bleach on it and stating when in time I wanted to be.  It also involved a trial with the Simpsons in it, and for some reason the identity of Spiderman as Peter Parker was very important to the case.

Then there's the one where I was killed by poisonous river dolphins who broke into my house and hopped around on their tail fins.

Oddly, I don't do drugs.

I stopped looking at porn for a few days after that.

When I was a kid I had this one where my father wanted to kill me, with a knife, and he had no face. I ran to my mother for help, but she was now also faceless and knife wielding. I don't remember how it ended, but before it was done everyone in the world was faceless and out to kill me and I was just running for my life.

I had a lot more nightmares as a child. Most of them involving someone or something trying to kill me. Paranoid much?

See, my dreams rarely involve people. For a long time, it'd be stupid stuff, like a window opening, or a leaf falling, and that'd be it. Or bees chasing me.
Then after I started at the university, people started popping up in dreams, always trying to kill me.

Then there was a turn, when I'd turn and start killing my pursuers. The disturbing turn happened when I'd just start indiscriminately killing anyone else I'd come across. It got worse still when I started recognizing people, and began killing them, enjoying it in the process, then resurrecting them, and then rekilling them again in various manners.

I'm not at all a violent person in the waking world, but apparently my unconscious mind has some crazed, demonically unsatiated bloodlust.

That's the stuff where it's best not to talk about your dreams to friends.
"Yeah, so in my dream last night, I killed you several times, and tortured you, and in the dream, I liked it. Did you ever really think about how much blood there is in a human?"

Is there a "plot" (using the term loosely here) to what I'm assuming is Hanner's dream? Or is it just random scenes mashed together? Does the girl (who looks like Faye, tbh) not believe the dark-haired man (who kind of reminds me of Martin) about a murder? And then he kills her for kissing the blonde-haired dude? Is that dude the same as the one who is holding the strange staff?

I have weird dreams anyways that make a hell of a lot less sense. I don't know why I'm trying to figure this out in the first place. Lol.

It's actually not THAT uncommon to dream about things you've read ...

Personally I don't dream ... but if I did, I'd really have a hard time picturing Hanners reading Büchner's "Woyzeck" ... Oo
It puzzles me, why an already mentally misplaced girl would read up on something like "inner-voice-assisted murder out of envy"...

I only dream in movies.  Best one I ever had was when I dreamed a sequel to the Matrix (it was right after seeing the first movie).
Everyone I've described it to has told me it would have been better than what we actually got, but then that's not a tall order.

Holy chocochops.

I don't like to remember my dreams. I had a dream about furries last night. Everywhere. Trying to make me one.

And...I enjoyed it. What the hell? I'm still not sure if that was a nightmare or not.

Its the comic's characters replacing those of Georg Büchner's "Woyzeck", still maintaining the majority of it's plot.
(That is to say, Hanner's dream is about Marten (replacing Woyzeck) murdering Faye (replacing Marie), who cheated on him with Sven (repl. the Tambourmajor) ... )

Funny as hell, if you know about it :D

I think the matrix sequels would have been HELLA better if the story from two and three had been combined in one movie.  If they had limited each fight/chase/"action" scene to about four minutes each they could have covered all the narrative ground in about 45 minutes.

This explains why the comic  creeped me out.  I was disturbed for 2 days after watching that play, and then I think a homeless woman cursed my hometown to drown.  (it didn't).

Woooot! One really awesome Büchner Adaption (screw you Herzog!).
Gave me a big chill the first time I read it, even without notifying that this is actually Woyceck. Second reading, at sixt panel, i was all like: "Hm, who's this guy, looks like a Tambourmajor, but what the hell is he doing in this.... OMFG Büchner!" hehe

I had a dream once I was the new quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. My teammate - who happens to be Hugh Laurie - walks up to me before a play and says, "When you get the ball, throw it to my right." "Your right?" I say. "Yes, it's the only right I've got." So we're in position for the play (but instead of being on the field, we're gathered on the sidelines), and the player hiking me the ball is Mimi from the Drew Carey Show. I call "Hike!" and she half-heartedly dumps the ball on the ground. And then I woke up.

I'm told I need to stop eating Pop-Tarts before bed.

Dreams are fucking weird.

As did I. It may not have read like it, but my earlier post was a compliment. Warren may have run some schlock stories on occasion, but the art usually took what was in the mainstream comics, held it up by its ear, and delivered repeated blows to the buttocks and scrotum.

And as if today's comic wasn't confusing enough, my web browser stopped loading it part way through, right at the panel with the close-up of Marten's eyes and I thought that was the whole comic!  After struggling for a while to make heads or tails of it, I went to the forums to see if anyone could shed some light on the meaning of the comic and found myself wondering, "Why is everyone here talking about dreams?"  Then I figured it out.  :)

Yeah, I agree.  It really let me look at the characters to me in a new way.  Was the blond guy Sven?  Didn't look too much like him if it was supposed to be him.  Meh

Yes that is supposed to be Sven (or 19th century German Sven analogue). He was difficult to draw because the Drum Major is a big brawny guy while Sven is skinny and effeminate, so he came out a bit inconsistent.

MOST IMPORTANTLY though, he isn't blond. The panel where he is leaning against the table just didn't scan very well.

I thought it was Sven right away, and I'd never seen or heard of Woyzeck before.  Something about the face looked like Sven; that, and the interraction (such as it is) with Faye.

I think my favorite panel is the last one, where they're hanging out in the apartment, Marten's hand on Dora's leg.  Very natural looking.

But... since I'm not familiar with Woyzeck, who is the guy with the mustache?  His conversation with Marten apparently upsets Marten quite a bit.  I'm guessing that he's the one who tells Marten about Faye "cheating" with Sven.

This comic made me happy because I didn't know Lucid TV was still updating. It had gone quiet for a long time, so I stopped checking. But it's going again! Hurray!

Anyone who hasn't read the comic before should give it a go. It is hilarious!

In the play, Woyzeck is subject to a weird doctor's (or professor's) experiments in order to make some money. The doc sets him on a strict bean diet, disregarding all danger to health and psyche. Thus, Woyzeck hears voices in his head throughout the story and tries to explain his ideas of the "second nature" (the world behind the world, which he believes to be real as he sees it) to the doctor.

The panels show one of those occasions where Woyzeck (Marten) is called to the doctor and examined. In the screenplay, this is one of numerous scenes where Woyzecks obvious inner turmoils and confusions are ignored by the other characters, upsetting him and driving him deeper and deeper down a psychotic breakdown spiral.

The more you look at it, the better the strip gets :D

You would think Winslow would know by now not to take Pintsize's advice vis-a-vis romance.

Final results for monday's poll:

Hangus: 6 votes (10.9%)
Tai-Bird: 3 votes (5.5%)
Svawk: 5 votes (9.1%)
Startern: 5 votes (9.1%)
Fadora: 20 votes (36.4%)
Pint-tits : 16 votes (29.1)

new poll up soon.

You know, I don't blame Pintsize, she looks Japanese.  She might very well have liked sushi...

Jeph should have added the alternate as a fifth panel, that would have made it better. This could have been longer-than-usual comics week.
