I use Notepad ++. I love it. You do too. Or at least, you should.

I usually use gedit, although for great big files, I use VIM.

I use Notepad2.  Basically the same thing as notepad but it helps keep track of comments, braces, and so forth.

Yes. Gotta love the syntax highlighting for practically everything, and tabbed documents.

Does Notepad++ do C# yet? Last time I played with it, it refused to like the differences between dev and sharp.

In the language menu, it has an option for C#.

Well, I have used nano (and pico, too), but having a GUI type text editor is much nicer.

I use Textwrangler, Eclipse, and Dashcode.

However, for XHTML, I use Dreamweaver most of all. Always in code view, mind. I'm just used to it.

thoughts on those compared to the others? curious if i should be looking elsewhere for my text-editing needs...
("free" is a necessary feature, i might add. i r broke.)

At work we use UltraEdit, and I must say I am a fan.

html editor must count lines.  That's all that's really important.

Pft. If you don't use Emacs, your not for realz.

(this is not what I believe. It's something that my Uni wants me to believe.)

A current favourite is Textwrangler.

Eclipse is pretty amazing too though.

Yes, Eclipse is pretty great. For web development, though, I love Coda so, so much. It's seriously amazing.

Why not Nano?

I like having a proper undo function, and neither nano nor its predecessor, pico, have this. Vim, Emacs, JOE, and some other good command line editors do.

Nano is nice for a quick little change in a small file, though.
