Of the top five teams, at least two used autopick (John and Rachel) because they do not know much of anything about baseball. This makes me kind of sad.

It's not like they're out to insurmountable leads, particularly when you consider that some genuinely goofy stuff has happened to a lot of teams. Plus, we've got more than a few teams that are only going to get better as the season goes on in the running. Matt didn't have A-Rod for a while and Don (yeah, I know he's top 5; his team is still underperforming a pinch in regards to potential) has Teixeira, a man so infamous for his slow starts that he was the first thing that popped up if you googled "Yankees slow start" before the season even began.

Also, I'll admit to being a bit cautiously optimistic now that Jimmy Rollins is showing signs of life. It's just too bad that I completely whiffed on pretty much all of my risky picks. Only Kosuke Fukudome has rewarded me for my faith and I honestly grabbed him mostly because I thought it was a bargain basement price.

[EDIT]My internet has been unreliable lately, so this is a bit late, but I'd like to mention that Cliff Lee's last start is a perfect example as to why I never would have made it in pro sports even if I actually had been talented and a helluva lot less lazy. If I threw an 8 inning quality start only to watch my team lose by giving up 4 runs in the 9th, I'd probably respond by wandering off to the bullpen with a jug of kerosene and setting some relievers on fire.

So for some reason my pitchers are starting to show signs of life.

First Carl Pavano picks up 8k's in 6.0ip with 1qs + 1win.
Then Gavin Floyd pitches an 8.0 inning 8k's shutout for 1qs + 1win.
Then Matt Cain pitches a full game with 7k's giving up 1ER for 1qs + 1win aswell.
Add to this Mr. Frank Francisco whose ERA for the season is 0.00 with 10SVHD and i am finally having a good pitching week.

Oh, and so far every starting pitcher this week has picked up a QS.

You guys were pretty close all week, honestly. She had me checking it out occasionally while we were out of town, and even when you were winning a bunch of categories, you were holding them extremely tenuously.

Her win was kind of like a guy dangling ice cream in front of a kid and laughing only to have the kid kick you in the stones and take the ice cream. Rachel's a fantasy baseball heartbreaker.

Yeah, I had a similar thing happen. I figured I had a great chance to win in a squeaker, since I had a stranglehold in a few batting categories and was right behind him in all but steals and saves. I'll admit to being surprised when I won by 3 categories though; I didn't really think I'd get both quality starts I needed to snag a tie in that category.

And yeah, Mauer has been insane. Catchers are so injury prone that I have been pointedly refusing to hope that Mauer could turn the corner in terms of power production as he creeps towards 28 years old and his peak years, but he's been on such a tear lately that I can't help but get excited that he could turn into a 20-30 hr a year guy on top of being a ridiculously good catcher who hits for average. Now watch the Twins ownership manage to somehow fail to resign him past 2010 now that we've finally caved in and are building them a stadium.

Man fantasy baseball seriously skews one's view on performance in professional baseball.

Today on Sportscenter I saw that Ryan Howard had 2 homers, Josh Johnson had a 7-inning quality start, with 8 K's, earlier this week Joe Crede got me a homer, etc. etc. and the whole time I was really excited that people on my team were producing.

Then today I check the box score, see I'm behind Shane 4-7-3, and just look at my lineup and shout "goddammit you guys that is not good enough" even though they're playing really well and, like, five scores are separated by single point, three are tied, and the rest are within like 5 (for numerical scores) or .020 (BA, OBP, ERA, WHIP)

Ugh, I needed a huge day from my pitching and offense to win today, and got neither.

EDIT: sometimes I wonder how my team can possibly strikeout 60+ times a week, then I look and realize that Jarrod Saltalamacchia strikes out in 39% of his at bats, including 10 in 18 this week. Astonishing.

It seems, that while attempting to manage her DL, Rachel accidentally waivered Joey Votto, Brett Myers and Brandon Webb.

This was an ACCIDENT. Those three weren't meant to be waivered. I'm bringing this up and saying that I'd greatly appreciate it if nobody put a claim in on them. As it is, I'm going to have a hell of a time getting them back on her squad for her (As far as I know, the only way to do it is to put in claims for all of them, effectively dropping her in the waiver queue). They'll be there for a few days, though, as in order to do this, I'll have to waive one player off her team to make room on the bench for them before I can add them back and DL them. Ignore pretty much anyone dropped from the Scituate Munchkins until further notice, please.

You don't actually have to claim any of those guys to get them back. The waiver period just means that whoever wants the players may give up their spot in the waiver order to assure first dibs; if I was dumb enough to drop Manny Ramirez, Don could give up his first place on the order to stash Manny and basically declare victory. But if for some dumb ass reason we were all dense enough not to claim him, someone could still pick him up after the waiver period was over without losing their spot; at that point it's strictly a matter of first come, first serve. I've already juggled my roster a bit this way, actually.

Yeah, the combination of a power spike on his part and some really bad fielding by his opponents has made him seem pretty invincible. Seriously, if you've been watching Twins games you'll probably have noticed that quite a few fielders are running around out there like they've been suddenly struck down with glaucoma when he comes up to bat. They're not even really getting close enough to risk taking an error in some cases. It's a surreal combination of incompetence and the simple fact that the dude has no mercy; some of the line drives he's spraying around are scary and I'm not really surprised to see them just blow right past mediocre fielders.

And now a word from Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty:
