Blah blah blah. I've been pretty much out of contention for the week since Wednesday. I am not winning a single category.

Guys, my team is currently clocking in with a .214 batting average, so don't talk to me about brutal. I purposely picked a bunch of really disciplined batters (aside from Milledge and Taveras, anyway) though, so I'm actually still ahead on strikeouts despite Rachel's team hitting a .315.

They've all been brutal days for me.

Well, we have five starters going between the two of us tomorrow, but yeah, since Friday when my team put up 11 RBIs I've been feeling pretty safe.

Perez sure put up a fucking terrible start for me, though. Without his shitty start bringing my ERA and WHIP down I'd be even further ahead.

Also, I know this is a double post but I'm doing it separately for emphasis: Make sure you make any necessary roster changes for Week 2 if you've traded or gotten anyone off waivers. This can be done by going to the My Team section and clicking the Matchup 2 tab. Rosters will lock for the week at the start of the White Sox-Tigers game at 1:00 PM EST on Monday, so if you haven't subbed in your new players by then you'll be SOL for the entire game.

You know, I'm not even truly surprised anymore when Pujols knocks in 7 runs on two at bats. If a pitcher is going to load up the bases like that then you just know there's no way in hell he can get around Pujols. "He bats ahead of Albert" was pretty much the beginning and the end of my thought process when claiming Skip Shumaker from the free agent pool for my bench.

Unless the Milwaukee reliever that John has comes in and gets a strikeout, or the two players between the two of you shift the hitter strikeout category, you're probably right. I'll try to have a full weekly wrap-up written later tonight after the Chicago-Milwaukee game is over.

Well Parra is unlikely to come in since he started three days ago.  And then either Theriot strikes out three times or Fontenot steals two bases and I seriously doubt either of those will happen (although the strikeout one is more likely)

I'm really giddy about owning two twins starting pitchers for cheap considering I have a week of home games coming up. Maybe they're not good pitchers in general, but the Twins are basically money at home when it comes to grinding out low scoring games.

Man tell that to KvP's pitching staff.  I had WHIP pretty much locked up until he posted a 0.54 in 18 2/3 IP.  That is ridiculous John.

Like I said before I'm really not good with names, but who was I playing this week?

Close motherfucking match, dude.  Hats off to you.  We ended up 8-6-0 to 6-8-0, with three categories settled by less than five stats apiece, with Quality Starts a difference of one.  And to think after the first day or two I was down like 11-3-0 vs. 3-11-0.

I'd be miserable about the absolute bullshit week I got served in fantasy, but I can at least say "Fuck, I'm not Alex, at least."

Dude, you got dismantled. By an opponent who was on complete autopick, who obviously did not get on well with autopick.

I can't fucking believe I'm behind my girlfriend, who has not logged in since she checked her lineup the first time, in the standings.

Yeah, I figured my team would get off to a slow start since I'm essentially betting on a bunch of bounce back years and some nicked up starters, but that was pretty ridiculous. I'm not actually all that terribly worried though. I mean, honestly, Jimmy Rollins and Justin Morneau combined for 8 hits out of 46 at bats. Unless you believe a couple of recent MVPs have lost the ability to play baseball at the ages of 30 and 27 years old respectively, one would have to think that's going to improve.

Man, i am pretty surprised with my score at the end of the match. Up until the last day me and Matt were pretty much tied and i was behind for most of friday but i guess thats baseball. (It was 11-2-1 to 2-11-1 in case anyone was interested)

And in the end there were no draws which i was pretty surprised about. Someone must've had either a great or terrible game to alter those deadlocks.

Weekly Wrap-up, Match 1

Raccoon City gets a stellar final day from its pitchers, but it's not enough as the Yammonsters sweep every batting category to headshot the newly christened Zombies 9-3-2.
Yammonsters MVP: Dan Haren (13 IP, 11 K, 2 QS, 2.08 ERA, 0.77 WHIP)
Zombies MVP: Johan Santana (12.2 IP, 20 K (!), 1 QS, 1 W, 0.71 ERA, 0.87 WHIP)

The Dreadnaught get a good week from their pitchers despite Lincecum's rough start to beat the DEATHs 11-3-0.
DEATHs MVP: Josh Beckett (13 IP, 15 K, 1 QS, 1 W, 3.46 ERA, 1.15 WHIP)
Dreadnaught MVP: Nick Swisher (7 R, 2 HR, 9 RBI, .471 AVG, .550 OBP) Too bad you dropped him!

I struggle to resist using sexual innuendo to describe the Fuck Stars' last-minute 7-6-1 victory over McFeely's Deliveries and succeed... for now.
Deliveries MVP: Jake Peavy (15.1 IP, 18 K, 2 QS, 1 W, 3.52 ERA, 1.04 WHIP)
Fuck Stars MVP: Aarong Harang (14 IP, 11 K, 1 QS, 1 W, 0.64 ERA, 0.93 WHIP)

The Placeholders get monster weeks out of Lind, Cabrera, and Longoria to pummel the Hefes 10-3-1.
Placeholders MVP: Miguel Cabrera (5 R, 3 HR, 10 RBI, .520 AVG (!), .586 OBP)
Hefes MVP: Chris Young (13 IP, 12 K, 2 QS, 2 W, 1.38 ERA, 0.85 WHIP)

The Natural Disaster Bowl is the other close matchup of the week, with the Tornadoes squeaking by the Volcanoes 7-6-1, with 3 RBIs and pitching strikeouts and only 20 average points separating the two teams.
Volcanoes MVP: Josh Johnson (15.2 IP, 15 K, 2 QS, 2 W, 0.57 ERA, 0.83 WHIP)
Tornadoes MVP: Alfonso Soriano (7 R, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 2 SB, .286 AVG, .355 OBP)

The SABRs get a bit of a recovery from their absolutely abysmal start, but their rally falls short and the Yofaces coast to a 9-4-1 victory.
SABRs MVP: Kosuke Fukudome (5 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 1 SB, .409 AVG, .480 OBP)
Yofaces MVP: Heath Bell (0.00 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 3 S)

The Imperials get a solid all-around week and clobber the Martinis 11-2-1.
Imperials MVP: Nelson Cruz (5 R, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 1 SB, .304 AVG, .346 OBP)
Martinis MVP: Joakim Soria (5 K, 3.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP, 3 S)

Stat Leaders:

R: Tie between Yofaces and Volcanoes (49)
HR: Placeholders (18)
RBI: Placeholders (60)
K (hitters): Tie between Yammonsters and Deliveries (42)
SB: Volcanoes (11)
AVG: Deliveries (.328)
OBP: Deliveries (.412)
IP: Yammonsters (70.1)
K (pitchers): Zombies (58)
QS: Dreadnaught (5)
W: Yammonsters (6)
ERA: Fuck Stars (2.05)
WHIP: Placeholders (1.04)
SVHD: DEATHs (11)

The You Done Fucked Up! Award goes to the DEATHs, who traded Uggla to the Zombies for Jed Lowrie just before rosters locked. Uggla's stats for the week: 3 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI, .200 AVG, .333 OBP. Not amazing, but Lowrie's stats for the matchup? A pitiful 1 for 18 with 8 strikeouts.

The Raw Deal of the Week Award goes to Dreadnaught, who rack up an impressive 10 saves/holds, 4 more than anybody else in the league... except the team they were playing against.

Weird Stat of the Week: Halfway through the week, the SABRs had a .122 AVG for the entire team.

This week's matchups:
DEATHs vs. Yammonsters
Zombies vs. Deliveries
Dreadnaught vs. Placeholders
Fuck Stars vs. Volcanoes
Hefes vs. SABRs
Tornadoes vs. Imperials
Yofaces vs. Martinis

Girardi was forced to pull his Wang out today, as it was clearly ineffective. At least Girardi had the good sense to pull him when he did, for fear of too many jokes concerning Pena taking Wang deep. Pena taking Albaladejo deep isn't quite so amusing.

What the shit? You're right. I make jokes about the Yankees having a bad bullpen, but that's just ludicrous.

ETA: Amusingly enough, Swisher was actually the only Yankee pitcher to not give up a run in the game.

Speaking of the Yankees' bullpen, ESPN's Player Rating makes no sense to me.  I looked at Mariano Rivera's stats so far, and yes it's really early, but I think only giving up one hit in 2 innings pitched, with no earned runs and three K's would warrant a higher player rating than -0.02.

I have to say, putting up a 72.00 ERA in an outing is QUITE impressive.

(and it makes up for Brad Lidge, who got the save despite giving up two runs)

I was bitching about that last year. I wanted to try and pick up Micah Owings as a hitter because the dude hit astonishingly good for a pitcher.

I know! I figured Wang would lose against Kaz and end up giving a decent chunk of hits, probably ending up with a low double digit era range, but I was willing to live with that as long as I got some innings out of it and a chance for him to start against Cleveland. But a 72? Really?

Hahahahahaha! Dude, I want a better first baseman, but seriously? Bedard's my second best starter and really the only guy I trust behind Santana. You'd need to put up Fielder and maybe even then some to pry him out of me. I sure as fuck am not giving him up for a career .270 hitter without much power. I'd sooner take my chances with Helton.

Man, I got my spank cocked last week. Here's hoping my team starts NOT SUCKING.

My team's doing better than last week, so far.

But man, I do so wish I had Tim Wakefield today. 42 years old and he took a no-hitter into the eighth.

I'm just hoping Jimmy Rollins can get things going soon. Obviously I don't intend to give up on the guy any time soon since he's always been streaky, but in the meantime he's killing me. At least Taveras has been the steal machine I had prayed for.

Also, I would like to take a moment to be thankful that we're using Quality starts as well as those good ol' arbitrary standbys called saves and wins.

Go, go, Gadget Ian Kinsler! Six for six with a home run, five runs, four RBI and a stolen base. Kinsler and Youkilis are effectively carrying my offense, so far.

Let's see if drastically changing my bench does anything.

Nelson Cruz, last week's team MVP. Yesterday he posts 2/5 hits with 1 run and 6 RBI. This included a GRAND SLAM HOME RUN; i believe he may be team MVP for the second week running.

Also, Blalock picked up 2 RBI from 1/5. Go go Rangers.

However, if anyone wants Matt Holliday in a trade feel free to speak up.
