Is it just me or is KvP's post invisible? That's scaring me.

Actually, I remember being scared by Fantasia, although I suppose that wasn't age inappropriate.

Wow. That made me wince at 18

I saw Hallowe'en when I was like 6. Cos my mum thought it would be a good to have a family film night in (on Hallowe'en) and so we watched that. When we went trick or treating. That was a terrifying night

There wasn't much that I couldn't bear to watch as a kid, really. Hell, I was playing Quake II when I was seven. The only thing that made me look away was someone with their guts blown out of them with a grenade in Saving Private Ryan.

Uh I'll have to retype it all at some point soon.

I couldn't think of another reason for why I hid behind the couch. Considering I've always loved the Zoo, of course.

Also, the floating brain in Robocop 2 was really creepy

As I was saying in my original post, like many of you I was exposed to cheesy 80's slasher / horror films as a child that scared the ever-living shit out of me. Including but not limited to: Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, Child's Play.

When I was a kid I would have terrible night terrors about fat people who had bright lights emanating from their mouths and steam coming out of their ears. Also there was a fleshy orb-thing with a bunch of eyes that really freaked me out. So it was with some surprise that I was channel surfing a few years back and found myself watching my night terrors on the tele. Turns out that as a toddler at some point I was subjected to Big Trouble In Little China and it wayyy to intense for me.

I saw the original Jurassic Park with my dad when I was like 7.  I remember hiding in between the seats, catching glimpses of the raptors as they were tracking the kids through the kitchen.

Funny thing, some parents brought their kids with them to see Watchmen.  They walked out half way through the sex scene.

Hell, I saw that scene when I was 8 or 9 in a video store, on the tiniest screen ever, and it freaked me the fuck out.

Other than that, My dad took me to the theatrical re-release of Star Wars: A New Hope when I was 4 or 5 or 6 (one of those), and it had a preview of the Tommy Lee Jones flick "Volcano" right before the movie started. That prepped my already freaked out self for the appearance of Darth Vader's mondo helmet, and I took off screaming.

I saw Saving Private Ryan and Starship Troopers in theaters. I'm 20 now so I musta been 7 or 8 or something for those. Don't remember exactly. I can't say for sure if they scared me but I find it hard to believe that they didn't. I know the latter was probably my introduction to B-movies which I wholeheartedly enjoy to this day so that's something I guess...

Jurassic Park at my cousin's house when I was about five. SO SCARY.
Immediately followed by my cousin telling me that the deep-sea fish (anglers etc.) would eat me if I was a deep-sea diver like I wanted to be at the time.

It was a traumatic visit.

Otherwise, though, my parents did a good job of censoring things. My mental health is probably better off for it.

Saw Schindler's List when I was three because my parents couldn't find a babysitter. I think I saw parts or all of Stephen King's It when I was 5, because my best friend's dad was just generally irresponsible. It was pretty horrible. On the plus side, not a whole lot scares me any more.

Funny thing, some parents brought their kids with them to see Watchmen.  They walked out half way through the sex scene.

This kinda thing always astounds me. I'm not sure what is worse: that parents brought their kids to the Watchmen or that out of all the provocative things in that movie it was the consensual sex that finally scared them off. I was personally made more uncomfortable by all the violence and attempted rape, but I guess I'm crazy that way.

I saw that Meg Ryan movie "In the Cut" when I was 11 or 12. Watching Meg Ryan holding a decapitated head in a bloodstained bathroom was pretty messed up.

It also doesn't help that I now think it was the worst movie I've ever seen.

"Congo" freaked me the fuck out. Saw it when i was probably 7 or 8. Scared me so bad that I actually avoided it for years afterward (not that it comes on tv very often). I watched it a couple of months ago and it was a pretty big let down.

When that freaky fucking ape threw that guys severed head down the stairs, i think that was about when it got to much for me. The ending, where they're lasering the gorillas kinda stuck with me too.

I had a ton of the Jurassic Park toys, but for a while, I hadn't seen the movie, cause I was too afraid. I guess I just wanted to have the popular toy.

Also, I have NO idea how any kid could endure Event Horizon. I just tell people in their 20's the concept of the movie, and it creeps them out.

I have, to this day, an intense phobia of Freddy Krugar as my brother made me watch Nightmare on Elm St VI just after I'd gotten out of hospital for a skin graft on my ear drums. The bit where the deaf kid is pleading with Kruger/His mother not deafen him with the giant cotton bud (Q-tips to you yankees) has stayed with me for the last 11 years and still makes me feel a little ill. He also made me watch Friday the 13th (number 8 I think) and I had nightmares about Jason Voorhees tapping on my window for months. But not hockey mask Jason. Jason as a little kid with the ugly face floating under the water.

The silliest thing I was ever freaked out by was when I was little my dad had the BBC tv version of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on video. The scene where Arthur and Ford are having Vogon poetry read at them freaked me the fuck out.

I first watched Neon Genesis: Evangelion as a child of 8. That show is full of nightmare fuel, but this part stuck with me:

During one of the later episodes, an experimental Eva unit rejects control and starts fucking shit up for everyone. Shinji (the protagonist) is sent in to destroy it, using his own Eva unit. He discovers, however, that one of his best friends is the pilot (although his friend isn't in control), and refuses to damage the enemy Eva. The enemy Eva gets to work trying to destroy Shinji, but the commander of the operation steps in and initiates the "dummy plug" technology. The dummy plug is essentially an autonomous fighting system for the Eva, and it immediately gets to work.

First, Shinji's unit snaps the neck of the enemy unit. This isn't enough - it then throws the enemy to the ground, rips off its frontal armour, and proceeds to violently tear out its internal organs as the blood seeps into the nearby river and sprays across nearby skyscrapers. At one point, the fist of Shinji's unit comes down and mangles the head of the enemy unit, causing its eyeballs to roll around. As if to add insult to injury, Shinji's unit identifies the entry plug (cockpit equivalent) of the enemy unit, pulls it out, and crushes it in front of Shinji's eyes, despite the fact that a good friend was in there.

All the while, the commander of the operation (who is Shinji's father) is grinning widely, elated at the efficiency of his creation.

the part of The Shining when the Stork (aka Danny's mom) walks up the stairs, looks down the hall, and, through an open door, sees a man in a dog suit heeling obediently at the feet of man in a tuxedo (or something) and then they both look right at her. it's a very very short clip that has literally nothing to do with anything but, for whatever reason, it disturbed me to no end as a child.

just thinking about that scene gives me the shivers to this day.

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.
