To be fair, all of his nominations are fantastic albums, just not really in the vein of this forum.

And to be fair (to the forum) that was kind of the point I was making with my nominations.

As far as Kind of Blue goes, basically my problem with it comes down to inertia. The album's just too static for me. For me jazz has always been such a kinetic music, and then along comes Kind of Blue and it kind of just sits there and looks pretty. There's no real swing in the rhythm section (of course, the album does swing in the technical sense, but not in a very dynamic way, especially if you compare it to the albums Davis was recording with his quintet just a few years earlier), and the solos never feel to me like they're going anywhere. Basically it seems to me too much music for the head, not enough music for the heart.

To put it in a crueler way, I find the album rather boring.

The lack of swing seemed to be kind of the point, though.  It's certainly a darker album and seems at times to be a bit sinister (or as sinister as jazz can be), and too much swing would probably ruin that sort of feel.  It wasn't the best album, but I think it certainly had a sort of emotion to it that really came into conflict with what I expected from a jazz album.

This is basically the hardest round for me.  By far.  Low against Miles isn't too difficult, since my opinion of Kind Of Blue is fairly similar to Harry's.  But man.  Dylan vs. The Beatles, and probably my favourite album from each band.  I'm going to have to listen to those records a couple more times before I can be sure.

If Low ever started swinging I would become deeply worried.

(i am really tired of this viewpoint.  rolling stone has good taste in classics, it's just the new records they don't keep up with too well.  omg guys really)

I'd have to examine his voting record in this contest. If there's one thing I've learned in the past few weeks, it's that this contest says everything about everyone.

Mine says that hey melody is maybe better than enthusiasm when it comes to a medium based on melody.

I like Dylan, but come on.

It's a contest to decide the smallest common denominator, something most here can agree is pretty good. Not the best album.

It would be interesting once we've decided the winner to see how many actually consider it their personal favorite album ever. Not many, I dare guess.
