Maira Kalman
« on: 26 Apr 2009, 21:05 »

Maira Kalman is an American-Israeli illustrator/author/artist who currently maintains a beautiful diary/art/comic for the NY Times. Currently she is working on a project called "And the Pursuit of Happiness" about the democracy in America and it's history, adding to it every Friday. Her artwork is brilliantly simple in its elegance with occasional splashes of post-modernism. This is further coloured by a narrative voice that is intimately sincere and innocently whimsical. To put it in much simpler terms, 'Beatonian'.

Check it out.

I am not even sure I appreciate what she is trying to do.  It would be Beatonian if it were a. funny and/or b. good.
