Appropriate?
« on: 25 Apr 2009, 15:57 »

I'm making an awesome connection with my history teacher, he's into the same bands I like plus he's an alright guy to talk to. Should I tell him about these forums or would that be a bad decision on my part. I do ocasionally post things I wouldn't want my teacher to know. Your thoughts?

I once told a coworker that she should post here, and then realized that I bitched about my work a lot here. It's up to you.

You have to tell him now.  Just so he can read this thread.

And that one where you called him a dick and talked about hating him.

He'll love to read that.

Plus it sounds like him and Dollface would make a perfect couple.

I'm trying to figure out if giving him the link to these boards would be better for your grades than sleeping with him.

I'm in a vaguely similar position with one of my teachers, except that she professes to be completely useless with the internet (she isn't) so I doubt she would read these boards much anyway. But I made a concious decision not to introduce her or indeed anyone else to the forums because I use this place like a sort of safety valve and a sounding board for things. As soon as you introduce someone you know in a different context to a completely new element of your life, the whole structure changes. Maybe that'd be a good thing? Maybe not. Just think about it and if there's a single post you've ever written that you'd prefer him not to read, don't do it.

I don't understand why, given the history of this community, that you think these are mutually exclusive things.

If the grading system is anything like it is here, the effect of sleeping with his teacher would be diddley-squat. He would need to sleep with all of the external examiners and moderators on the exam board for that to work, and from what I've heard of them it might just be easier to get off the internet and do some work.

As long as you don't show up at school drunk or high, I don't think it's really any of his business. If he's the type who would make you feel guilty about it then screw that, you're not the one judging someone, you shouldn't feel guilty. I mean, I'm sure he's a cool guy, I know some of my friends (who I think are cool people) probably judge me for smoking, but just ignore it, don't bring it up if you don't need to (which is most of the time), and let them be the ones who feel awkward about it, not you.

Wait until you're done classes with him? Also, you won't be able to say anything that could put him in a conflicting position, e.g. "I cheated on the test" or "I totally skipped class dude".

Also I've never gotten a friend from real-life interested in an internet forum. Has this worked for anyone else?

My ladyfriend lurks here and occassionally posts.  That's been working out just fine.  Would be different if the relationship lent itself to problems, I'm sure.

I guess it just all depends on what your friends are like?

Not for a social forum (but certainly for specialist subject forums).

I can never forgive you for what you did.

Meatlife friends of mine know that I am on this forum but they have no interest in being on it. Which is fine with me as I can't see how the forum would be particularly enriched by their presence.

My ex lurked on Aurostion for a time until she saw a post I made about another girl I know and she took it farther than I did.  It didn't go over well, so I figured I probably shouldn't try after that.
