tbh, i enjoy both records, i just find the second one to have more memorable moments. but then again, it has a bit more of a punk'n'roll vibe to it, which is something i'm a fan of anyway, so maybe i'm biased that way.

GT are amazing. i saw them live in a tiny venue (the jailhouse in coventry) shortly after the release of "dead mountain mouth" and although the crowd was subdued (it's hard to know what to do other than stare open-mouthed when the music's that batshit insane), it was a truly immense gig. shame they're on hiatus now

Honestly, not many hardcore records I feel strongly about this year. I was really looking forward to Skin Like Iron's newest because of how good All Human Failings was, but I found it so disappointing. The same goes for a lot of records in the genre, this year. Killing The Dream is pretty awesome, but I didn't hear it enough to make a solid decision.

Ok. I've relistened to it. I don't think it's garbage anymore. BUT it's nowhere near as strong as their first release. Suffering severely from Awesomefirstalbumitis, the second simply cannot measure up.

Gonna go listen to some Neurosis now instead.

Some dude on punknews.org posted a generic sorta "hey guys, check out my band" post, and for some reason I bothered to actually click through and have a listen. For the first time in my history of using that site, shit came up trumps. This is a really awesome, well-written, catchy, well-recorded album from an unsigned band.

RIYL: Fast, melodic pop-punk/melodic hardcore in the vein of Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, (old) Rise Against, Bouncing Souls, Latterman etc. etc.

Honestly, this could be the most excited I've been about discovering a new band, it's THAT good an album.

Saying there's anything remotely hardcore metal about Avantasia is admittedly a bit of a stretch, sorry.

And Pantera puts me to sleep as well.

Nevertheless, this thread is mainly about hardcore, not metal. Just FYI.

Yeah, the whole neocrust thing is a little weird.
It seems to be one of those genres that gets thrown around a lot but doesn't really have a working definition.
I just included it up there because usually when people say neocrust, the first example (in my experience) that comes up is Fall of Efrafa.

I haven't uploaded anything on this thread for some time now, so I figured I'd throw up a couple of albums I've picked up recently - both from the scrappier, more rock'n'roll influenced end of hardcore. Cloak/Dagger (who are tagged as "Cloak or Dagger" on the mp3s thanks to WMP's unwillingness to deal with slashes in artist names) sound very much like Hot Snakes, especially in the guitarwork (and even down to the lyrics - the first track heavily references "If Credit's What Matters, I'll Take Credit") with a slightly gruffer vocalist. Then we have The Smoking Hearts, who aren't a world away from first-album-era The Bronx, but a bit more frantic and rougher round the edges, with a penchant for squally solos. Furious stuff, and you can't fuck with a band that has a song called "Thrash B4 Gash," quite frankly. Enjoy...
