Awesome: Ink and Dagger are back together

Unawesome: Not that I'll get to see them or anything anyway

Confusing: Geoff from Thursday

Question: Do they still dress up as vampires?

If you type their name into Facebook, they posted another link on there. Saw them again yesterday, and fuck it was good. I'm kind of bummed that they aren't selling vinyl yet, since all they had yesterday was a tape.

Yeah that'd usually be the part where you post links to the bands music on such as bandcamp or youtube or even an album download. Don't be a dick.

i'm just uploading a whole mess of stuff right now, which i will post as soon as it's finished...

Ah, well that IS unfortunate, as I don't have those albums on this computer...  I'm fairly sure a google search should turn them up for you though, they're definitely worth a listen, especially "Umber/Star Booty."

As promised, "a whole mess of stuff;" a few choice picks of the hardcore-related stuff I've been spinning lately:

End of a Year - "You are Beneath Me"

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?bq5bztdklbqewfb
Very DC-influenced post-hardcore with duelling guitars and a loose, punky feel.  The vocalist, Patrick Kindlon, has a weird scratchy voice, but after you get used to it, it really suits the songs, and his lyrics are outstanding throughout.  Also worth checking out his Formspring account for some very interesting reading.

letlive. - "Fake History"

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?rqr7fyrn24m24m2
So yeah, while Glassjaw have been busy riling up their fans with piecemeal releases of odd songs over the last few months in what must be the worst kind of musical cock-tease imaginable, a bunch of upstarts from LA decided to beat them at their own game.  Yes, this sounds very like GJ, but with a speedier melodic hardcore influence.  Properly solid from start to finish.

Hostage Calm - "Hostage Calm"

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?yfg84g4210j209z
This is my favourite album of 2010, which is why, despite it residing on the very edges of hardcore as a genre, I'm still posting it here.  Hostage Calm used to be a straight up melodic hardcore band, reminiscent on their debut "Lens" of older Crime in Stereo.  And now, much like that band, they've embraced experimentation and made what their label describes as a "deranged pop record."  There are still hardcore/punk parts, but they're tempered with a keen sense of melody, latin percussion, piano, and huge vocal harmonies.  Of note is the drumming, which holds everything together nicely through the numerous turn-on-a-dime time changes in each song.  Totally gripping from start to finish, and another album where you'll really want to follow the lyrics too.

Make Do and Mend - "End Measured Mile"

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?06ep2l462gc5m5e
A heavier take on the whole gruff melodic punk-rock sound, heavily reminiscent of "Caution"-era Hot Water Music.  This album came out of nowhere for me, and I've barely stopped listening to it since.

Worn In Red - "In the Offing"

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?izga5q596ueah4d
Gloomy and heavy post-hardcore for fans of Glass and Ashes, Young Livers, Planes Mistaken for Stars etc.  Bit of a grower, this kinda passed me by when it was first released back in 2009, but recent listens have revealed its charms.

Just found out that No Friends (an 80s-Hardcore-influenced band featuring dudes from New Mexican Disaster Squad/Virgins/Gatorface on t'instruments, and Tony Foresta from Municipal Waste on vocals), have got their "Traditional Failures" EP up for free download on bandcamp, and felt compelled to share this delight with all yous fine-ass mothafuckas who frequent the hardcore thread.  Have a butchers at this:

hey punx thread sup.

okay so today i am going to tell you about Baton Rouge. They are a pretty new band, but don't worry these guys arn't babies it is actually pretty much just the dudes from Daitro and 12XU and they basically rewrote Y but made it less gruff and more fun. Like imagine if every song on Y sounded a little more like IX and less like, II. Either way dont expect anything stupidly heavy for this, this is goof off and dance in yr underwear punk rock.

Okay so Lummer already tried to direct your attention towards this, but if you have any interest in Celeste at all, you should definitely check out this new danish band! http://www.myspace.com/hexisband They've already toured with Celeste around Scandinavia
and made a pretty awesome tape.

Also... they're really good.

figured i'd copy a few cool hardcore uploads from the M/F thread to here.  credit due to the users in the quotes, of course:

LA DISPUTE - "Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair"
Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?m0uhti1jx4gIn the non-major veins of Modern Life is War, surprisingly tight hardcore. Flossing the teeth of late nineties, enough grime to keep you crusty, but clean enough to show others.
Not my link, but turn off the lights and fuck it if it's wet.

Trap Them - Darker Handcraft

Code: [Select]
http://www.M/F.com/?9ek94fvf4ywykf5FFO: Entombed, Converge, His Hero Is Gone, etc.

This band has yet to release a bad record, so if you're into hardcore or metal and the bands I mentioned, definitely check this one out.

This is an amazing records by some amazing dudes, They are just about to kick off a pretty expansive tour with some equally awesome dudes. i.e...

The Red Chord - Clients

Gaza - He Is Never Coming Back

also, in other hardcore related news, i hear the new defeater is rather insanely good.  if it's in stock at the shop, i'll pick it up today...

This is a full length released by a high school group from Boise, ID formed back in 2004 and disbanded in 2007 or so. It's pretty experimental grind/thrash/metal/rock. Definitely not to be taken too seriously.

Man, the new Beau Navire album is so fucking good...it could end up being one of my favourites this year. I just want to leave the rest of my listening for when I actually get the LP. BN are apparently recording another full-length already, and they have a split with Suffix coming out soon as well.

Also, stoked to get the We Were Skeletons/MIWA split. All these good bands putting out so much good material.

have you heard the songs off the suffix split? they're pretty good and the new beau navire is pretty good so im stoked on that.

but i think im more stoked on the we were skeletons split that they're doing with the saddest landscape, the wws track is pretty okay but mnwa (or whatever they call themselves) is kinda shitty.

Didn't know the Suffix stuff leaked, I'll have to check that out. I'm not a huge fan of The Saddest Landscape, but I guess I'll check that out too for the WWS song. And I think the band is callled Misha, but they spell it with Russian Cyrillic letters so the "sh" is a "w". Kind of silly, but what I heard from them wasn't that bad.

oh they arn't leaked, but they've been on the suffix myspace for months now. im also not a huge saddest landscape dude but their track on the pianos become the teeth split they did killed so they are in my favor right now. and yeah, that sounds right about mischa. they're actually based right by where i go to school, which is kinda neat but i dunno, they would probably be better if they had a bassist.

Apparently other reunions are being announced for that fest though, so I'm excited to see what's announced.

i saw them back in may '09 plus i have a bit of their shit on vinyl. they do the whole the whole post-rock+screamo/hardcore mix thing. i don't think they're the best thing since sliced bread but they're getting pretty goddamn popular for that type of music over here in the states and they put on a decent show back then, even if it was a lil loud since they hadn't even put out their full length yet so i couldn't tell what was really going on. they'll probably do a nice set though, if you wanna check out their stuff i'd say spin some tracks off their full length old pride (which is probably posted somewhere on this forum) or their recent split 9/7" with the saddest landscape. dont expect to have yr mind blown, and personally i'd be more stoked to see suis la lune, who i think they're touring with.

MOAR MUSIC

this is a blog post with the new Saddest Landscape & We Were Skeletons Split 7" and the We Were Skeletons & мища splits. Honestly, I think the Saddest Landscape track here is one of the best songs I've ever heard them do, I'm starting to really get stoked on shit they put out. The We Were Skeletons tracks on that split are pretty standard fare for them (which is good i think so whatever), but they really shine on the мища, with a rerecorded version of wolves, which is also on the ryan ottoman EP and another song with is really goddamn awesome. мища does their thing, which is neat i guess. im starting to warm up to them, they basically play stupidly frantic/bleak/yet minimal hardcore, get at these if yr into it.

I can't stop listening to WWS s/t. I can't get into all of it, but some of it is incredible. the song "Well, I did spend a year in college" is one of the best songs I've heard from 2010.

Also, in important hardcore news, Converge is recording a split with fucking Dropdead. They're also touring with Trap Them and Burning Love, and Dropdead are playing the Philly and Cambridge shows. If this doesn't hit Toronto or close to here, I'm gonna have to make a trip out of it.

http://deathwishinc.com/news/ - Check out the details here. I don't wanna take up a whole page posting dates, haha.
