I really like the concept of the EP, but I haven't really warmed up to it yet.. It's cleaner and broader in its sound

I'd consider most metalcore (the Killswitch Engage-inspired stuff, not the stuff that's an actual amalgamation of metal and hardcore) to be a baby of In Flames more than anything else

Actually, In Flames became a shitty metalcore band, not the other way round, though there is a certain melodeath influence in much of the bullshit the kids these days listen to.

The whole minor-scale modal harmony guitar thing owes a ginormous debt to the more recent melodeath, who snagged it from Iron Maiden.

What I'm basically saying is it's a ripoff of a ripoff.

Is this a good point to bring up Deep Wound, Poison Idea, Angry Samoans, Hated Youth, United Mutation, 7 Seconds and JFA then? You know, just to be on the safe side.

Anyway, The Armed a re a pretty decent and fun metalcore (think Botch etc.) band who were nice enough to toss their stuff up for free on their website.

Hey remember when I said this? Turns out you'll need to go see these bros on this tour, because from here on in Albizz is hitching his applewagon to the ATP star and Shellac will only be playing ATP events.

This is the thread for me. I love hardcore, it was the first real genre of music that I got into, around the time Killswitch released Alive or just Breathing. Lucky me, the New Jersey hardcore scene is still alive and kicking, so I can see a ton of good shows for cheap.

Some great hardcore bands I didn't see mentioned:
still playing:
Terror- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYgFnLfDJMI
Fallen Figure- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTS5nko2VHA
Molotov Solution- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPpom5QrDfc

And some that have broken up:
Shattered Realm- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5R1YZQ5dNrk
Suffer the Living- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgETrLvfMGk
On Broken Wings- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wudt53sXxhE

I know right?!

I have two options:

5th of november, Black Breath play in Copenhagen, close-ish to my place.

However, at the same time, a whole mess of awesome death metal bands play in a town far away. We're talkin' Immolation (!!!), Pestilence and Napalm Death. But that's gonna be expensive too, so I'm leaning towards Black Breath. Buuuut..

IMMOLATION, goddamnit!

I was kinda blown away when I heard Heavy Breathing because I was expecting more of that kind of thrashy-hardcore sound that the EP had.

But yeah. Fucking awesome. One of my favorite albums of the year.

hated Rohnert Park. it seemed like they were trying so hard to write a different record, that they lost focus of songwriting. nothing on that album stands out to me.

on the other hand, the new Killing The Dream record is an example of a band doing something different with their sound, but remaining true to what they are.

Black Breath are an "Entombed rip-off" no doubt, but 1) it's not like that's a particularly deeply mined vein, and 2) Being derivative isn't really that big a deal in this style as long as you're still fucking faces off with aggression and awesomeness, see also: Pulling Teeth.

yeah, Black Breath aren't reinventing anything by any means, but there's still something great about them since they totally fucking rock.

Lurk moar newb.

Been enjoying the first Ghost of a Thousand LP recently. The second is garbage unfortunately but that's life I guess.

A friend also introduced me to Trillion Barnacle Lapse recently, not strictly hardcore. Maybe I'd describe it as post-hardcore electro. Of course, that brings to mind Attack Attack but they're really nothing like that. They were doing what Enter Shikari went on to do long before them and doing it ten fold better.
Here's a clip that may or may not substantiate my claims; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0XuTFqHpII
Terrible audio quality but you get the idea.

Also been listening to Hot Cross and Pg. 99.
