I'm not 100%, but I could swear that during a comment on tattoos he said the birds things was personal. Like as in not wanting to tell every person with access to the internet.

Seriously though, of all Jeph's creations, Yelling Bird is probably the only one I'd really miss not having in my life. I also wouldn't be so sure that Jeph likes birds for some personal reason he'd rather keep secret; it's just as likely that it's a personal preference that he can't even really completely explain. The only time I remember him mentioning birds and tattoos in the same post was when he said that he doesn't worry too much about his tattoos and instead goes with things that make him happy. Sometimes we just like what we like; if you asked me why I like green better than purple I'd be hardpressed to come up with an answer more complicated than "I dunno, fuck you, I thought it was cool."

The most common reason for association with birds is the need for freedom, like you can just fly away. It's a bit of a cliche, but that's kind of the point

Jeph has said somewhere that he wonders if his local tattoo guy says, "OMG, it's the bird dude" when he (Jeph) shows up for another tattoo.

I suspect that birds, any and all, have a significance to Jeph that it would be rude to ask about.

I don't want to use the stuff to communicate and it doesn't represent my connection to anything. I just like it and that's good enough. It's very zen to just accept that you enjoy something and leave it at that. Maybe it's like when Raven said that she thinks about puppies in the morning because they're fuzzy.

Hm, I was gonna say the same thing. But even if there's no reason, that's good enough for me, everyone has different reasons for getting a tattoo...

That song gets annoying real quick when heard 2 times a day dealing with some jackass who thinks they know how to do my job better than me, and failing. I may be unfairly linking the two (and thus the seething hatred) but I've come to loathe this song as everytime it comes on at my work, someone comes along and kills my hope for humanity.

It's interesting to look at breakdowns of who has what sort of tattoo. For example, most tattoo'd sexual abuse/rape victims I know have a phoenix somewhere on their body. I find tattoos really interesting, as what someone chooses to put on their body permanently. It fascinates me, and this sounds like an awesome possible branch of anthropology. Yes?
Yeah, I know there's another thread for this, but I think this is a separate issue... about how we classify ourselves using symbols and colors, on clothes, jewelery, and in tattoos. I don't feel clothed without wearing green, and I have a friend who feels this way about owls... how about y'all?
