i'd have been 4 when this was first screened, so i didn't see it back then, but i've just watched it in full on youtube (it's on there in 10 parts), and despite knowing it was fully staged, there are still a few bits that are legitimately creepy!

any UK forumites a few years older than me happen to catch it on the original broadcast? i've heard there was a national crisis about it, more so than that article would lead you to believe!

Not me.  I don't recall any fuss either, but I think I was on holiday in France that week with my second wife agreeing to marry me - which would have interested me far more.
