The assemblies at our school usually allow a student to sing the national anthem, and this past Wednesday we had a "Farewell Seniors!" ceremony. The guy who sang the Star-Spangled Banner this time was a senior, and though he's generally one of the quieter, more nerd-cool guys, seeing him onstage made me think he was there as a joke or a dare, which would suit his sense of humor.
He sang the redneck-pride out of that song, and the shock-and-awe of the crowd made it difficult for him to even sing, since we were cheering so loudly.
I was wondering, though, where else does this Susan Boyle phenomenon exist? And I welcome similar stories to mine, even if the person isn't famous or even searchable on the internet.
