The only thing I'm confused about is I missed the explanation of why he can fly 20 feet horizontally seemingly at will. Look goddamn great though, specially considering how boring the first game was.

Ummmm...L4D is NOT online only.

You ever tried playing on Expert with 3 AI players? That game was made for online.

To avoid double posting, I'm watching the video for Just Cause 2, never played the first one but honestly those are absolutely stunning visuals.

i am super excited for Just Cause 2. the first one had a lot of potential and was mildly fun for a minute but it really looks like they might have nailed it this time.

Fusion was terrible.

That game was flawless! I've only ever seen three criticisms of that game, and I don't think any of them hold any water.
*It has a progressive plot. Metroid games aren't supposed to have a progressive plot.
*There's dialogue in the game. Metroid isn't supposed to have dialogue.
*It's linear, I can't roam the entire ship freely until the last part of the game.

While you can argue that those changes lose the open feel and sense of loneliness that other Metroid games have, they were implemented brilliantly and parts of the game retained the exploration and isolation that the other games had. Sure, some areas were sealed until later in the game, restricting your movement, but a lot of the rooms and areas were gigantic and when you went in to explore those areas, you still felt very, very alone.
The SA-X was superbly executed too. That thing was terrifying and helped to create far more atmosphere than anything in the other 2D Metroid games. On the first playthrough, I spent virtually the entire game scared that the SA-X might show up in the next area. I nearly smashed my gameboy when that damn computer told me to go into an area that SA-X was actively exploring.
Instead of focusing on the parts that changed, focus on the good bits.

*Superb detailed, brightly coloured 2D graphics.
*A highly regarded understated score used to fantastic effect throughout the game.
*An engaging, perfectly paced plot.
*Tight, responsive controls.
*The SA-X.

I think the only valid criticism of the game is that it's far too short.

My main complaint about Metroid Fusion isn't that it's linear (all Metroid games [except II] are linear, unless you sequence break; hell, the term "sequence break" implies that the game is supposed to be linear) but that Adam's holding your hand for so much of the game. It's not until the very end that you have to find your way around the ship on your own, and even then the challenge of it is about what I'd expect from the midpoint of an earlier Metroid.

I just started watching the Just Cause 2 video but I am not sure if it is a game for me.  I mean, what the fuck is up with the reusable, instantly deployable, instantly retractable parachute?  The bit with the fucking boat.  If a dude did that in basically any other decent fps game he'd get shot to fucking shit in the air.

Also, firing a rocket launcher at shit while parachuting and also grappling around to get up speed so you can stay in the air?

Ten things I hate about Metroid Fusion

1: Being ordered around. It's not about linear vs. nonlinear as the random dude above me said. It's about being told what to do vs. the thrill of exploration. It's about walking down a corridor and not knowing what's ahead and if you're even supposed tobe there or not. It's about stumbling down secret tunnels to find random power ups. It's what Prime 1 and Zero Mission understood and Fusion didn't.

2: No sequence breaking. The entire plot of the game forbids it. All items are acquired through plot events rather than exploration. This is something Zero Mission did extraordinarily and beautifully well and Fusion just says "fuck off" about.

3: Adam. Retconning some sort of handler into Samus's story? Really? Bullshit. Suddenly the whole bounty hunter raised by aliens mystique is just turned into "Samus is a really good soldier for the galactic government". What the balls ever.

4: The final boss fights. SA-X was a really good constant threat until you actually had to fight it. Then it turns out it's a push-over. Then it turns into a giant monster. That's even easier. Then we get to have it, for no discernible reason, sacrifice itself to save Samus just so we can have a "homage" to the end of Super Metroid.

5: The part of the game leading up to the boss fights. So...there's supposed to be like...13 SA-X roaming the ship and a shitload of Metroids? Where the balls are they? That would've been frickin' awesome to actually have to fight all the crap but nope. Now you're given freedom (finally) to explore and they're nowhere.

6: The Fusion suit. Thing is ugly, I'm sorry.

7: Okay I can't think of anymore but 6 is enough.

I mean, yeah, sure, as compared to other platformer games it's still pretty good but as compared to any other Metroid game it's balls.

Oh FUCK yes Forza 3. I hate racing games and I thought Forza 2 was perhaps the best online experience of all time.

Guys, it had a paint mode so fucking deep that the ECONOMY OF THE GODDAMN GAME revolved around cars painted like Skeletor.

Metroid Fusion is the third or fourth best Metroid (I'm trying to decide if it's better than Prime 3) game and all of you saying it wasn't excellent are douche bags.

I loved it Metroid Fusion and don't get why people don't like to talk about it.  Hell, most of the games have been set before fusion.

I don't really care about the setting or the timeline. I just realized some dude was going to be yammering at me, cutting into my precious exploration time so I went and did something else.

while we're on the subject of Metriod what did people think of Hunters for the DS, cos that's really my only experience of a metriod game and I didn't think much of it - was this just a bad game or if I disliked it will I be likely to dislike the rest of the series.

Of all the Metroid games, that is the one that's least representative of the series as a whole, really, due to the stylus based controls and an emphasis on pure action and a lot less exploration. The Metroid Prime games are all pretty well regarded but they're quite a bit different from the original games. At the very least, you should grab a pad and an emulator and check out Super Metroid, which was an outright classic by pretty much any standard and still holds up pretty damn well. I still have no idea how in the hell Super Metroid struggled in Japan; the concept is mindboggling to me even if it was one of the SNES's last gasps.

Yeah, I suggest playing Super Metroid at the very least, and the original Metroid Prime as well if you have something capable of playing it. They're very different, but both fantastic.

Metroid Prime
Zero Mission
Prime 2
Prime 3
Metroid 2
Metroid
Fusion
Hunters

That's all the opinion you really need!

I haven't played Hunters, but Zero Mission is definitely the worst I've played. The entire latter portion without the suit is the most ill conceived bullshit to hit the series. Also, Prime 3 is so much better than Prime 2. I'd call Prime 2 the bastard stepchild of the Primes. It's pretty fun, but the light and dark mechanic hurts more than helps.

My thoughts exactly. This game desecrates Newton's corpse, but the sheer stunt movie sensation most probably makes up for it.
