Dude ... Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven ... I win ... or lose, really.
I avoided
Highway to Heaven like the plague. I had my own TV by then. Lived in another house, too.
As for
twat, we've been using it here (take that as you will) since the 1980's, anyway. I know this because while we were reading Milton (I think) my high school English teacher asked us what the 'fiery, burning gulf' where 'no one wants to go' was, and someone replied 'Your twat.'
Twit, on the other hand, has, so far as I know, never made it 'cross the pond in any big way. And yes, Penquin47, I, too, find myself using British slang and some syntax (it can be slightly different) when I've been reading one of their bloody novels. Or watching some of their grotty imported T.V. (courtesy BBC America).*
I've never told anyone I fancy them, though. I have
some control.
*(YES, I'm kidding. I'm addicted to both Pratchett and Adams, watch far too much of
Dr. Who,
Primeval (first series, anyway), and
Torchwood, and there may never be a better comedy series than
Chef!. Although
Coupling and
One Foot in the Grave come close).
