I dunno, it was pretty rough when Ernest Walton, Emil Cioran (he was entertaining, at least) and Jonas Salk all died in a three day span, although they did at least live much longer lives. Come to think of it, it's kinda funny that Cioran lived to be 84; the dude basically made a career of taking pessimism to its logical extreme.

Shitty, absolutely shitty week for American culture.

Man, now I'm suspicious.

I mean, let's look at the facts: first the Shamwow guy was spontaneously attacked by a prostitute who sliced, diced, even julienned his tongue. He's arrested and in just seconds, his career is gone!

But wait, there's more!

Because then Billy Mays dies at the age of not 70, not 60, but 50 years old with no signs of why he might've died!

What are the odds you'd expect this to happen to the two major current TV salesmen?

25%?

1%?

.000005%?!

I think there's only one man capable of this, AS SEEN ON TV:

Don't worry, Ron Popiel is still alive and ready to sell you knives that never get dull and rotisserie ovens!

Because then Billy Mays dies at the age of not 70, not 60,but 50 years old with no signs of why he might've died!

Don't you mean 49.95 years old? (Nobody on infomercials uses whole numbers.)

According to the Washington Post, he was supposedly on a plane yesterday afternoon, and there was a rough landing and some luggage fell out of the overhead bin and landed on his head. If this is true, it could have been a subdural hematoma. (Basically the same thing that did Natasha Richardson in back in March.)

Three easy payments of 24.95. And if you call in the next ten minutes, they will knock off one of the payments.

Apparently someone knocked off the last payment of Billy Mays' life expectancy.

A salesman died in Florida on Sunday. First it was a tv legend. Then an old sex-icon, followed by a fading, crazed pop-star. And now -a cleaning-product salesmen with a loud voice. Someone's picking off television icons.

Somebody knows why.

Down there...

Somebody knows.

A salesmen died in Florida on Sunday.

I would like to note that I did buy OxiClean in a laundromat because of Billy May's pitch.  I had heard it like two months earlier on late night TV.  It just stuck with me.

He was a good pitchman.

It helps that the shit actually works. Speaks a lot about him personally to not be like one of those dickbags who endorses a product and it doesn't even fuckin' work as advertised.

There is this pretty awesome thing that Billy Mays advertised and apparently supported with a lot of conviction called the Dual Saw. My dad wants one, and I kind of think I do too.

Counter-rotating dual tungsten saw blades!!??

Wow.  That looks like a pretty sweet little thing.  I dunno how much power something like that would have but damn it would be nice to be able to cut through any material with the same tool.  I am sick of using a hacksaw on plastic tubing.

The show Pitchmen made me trust in informercials (At least ones he or Sully are in) a lot more than I ever would have otherwise. The fact that they spent such a long time testing the products to guarantee they work before recommending them to anyone.
