I was under the impression that black tea is actually a type of tea like green tea.

Also, black coffee means no stuff added whatsoever I thought.

Black tea is different from having your tea "black". Black tea is a type, actually lots of types, of tea like green and red.

In my book taking your tea black simply means no milk. Anything else is kosher.

Except bacon I guess.

Mm, bacon tea.

What?

I am currently drinking Arizona green tea with ginseng and honey. It is pretty good, for only costing 99 cents.

Both black and green tea (and all "real" teas)  actually are the same plant; what differs between them is the processing and level of oxidation as well as other flavouring agents.

What i'd probably consider my favourite tea is

It is remarkably versatile, it can be great unsweetened or with milk and sugar and in almost all ways i have tried. I gave shane a box for christmas and he dug it too.

Something I've discovered: most people have never had a decent cup of tea in their lives! U know I hadn't! Most people make do with these tea bags and crap like that that pretty much ruins the subtle flavors in tea! That's why my family has gotten really hooked on Adagio Teas. What's great about them is that they offer reasonable prices - it costs 9 bucks for their cheapest pot, 19 for their super-nice one-serving InginuiTEA pot, which includes a sampler kit, and makes the best single cup of tea I have found, no more excuses for using bags!

It'll also show you how poorly you've been preparing your tea before, did you know that green and white teas should be prepared at 180 degrees, and not boiling? I sure didn't!

I have really been hooked on their Dragonwell green tea for a while.

Yeah, I really prefer loose-leaf tea to tea bags... most specialty stores i've been to are hella expensive, though. Kinda want to buy like 40 tins of tea now....

This.  Loose leaves in a clay teapot, the needles will stand on end to let you know that you understand what is good in life.

I was reading a lot of stuff about tea-bags on the first page of this thread. I don't understand why people use tea-bags. People! You don't have to make a whole pot of tea just because you're using loose-leaf (a.k.a. "real") tea! You just put a spoonful in a strainer, put the strainer over your cup, pour the water through the strainer (and the tea leaves). Makes a nice cuppa. You can even get different kinds of strainer that immerse the leaves in the tea to make a stronger cup!

Seriously, why on earth would anyone use tea-bags?

Because nobody has a strainer, and most of the people that do don't know what it does, because it looks more like a medieval torture device. And because it is so much easier to find, and probably more hygienic to have out in a lobby, and because some people don't care about the subtle differences anyway.

I want to buy one of those tea strainer ball-on-a-chain things, to use up some of the loose leaf tea I bought, but then there are all the different kinds of those things!

I use tea bags, because they are easy, and I am lazy. I know loose leaf is better, but I put 3 sugars in, so it's really not gonna make that much difference.

Also, one can buy tiny teapots!  They are practical, adorable, and make a good cup of tea.  Okay, using a tea bag saves you from cleaning one additional item, but that is not a good enough reason.

I have a teapot which makes one-and-a-half cups of tea. It's perfect. You finish your cup, and you think "I could do with just a little bit more", and hey! There it is, right there in the tea-pot.

It's amazing to me, a non tea (or coffee) drinker how much culture, refinement and effort is involved in your tea drinking habits. I'd love to participate in such rituals. It seems so ... civilised.

Unfortunately ... tea, to me, is gross.

I don't drink tea. I like the smell but it just tastes like a waste of time. I am a great disappointment to my family because my grandfather used to own and manage one of the larger tea plantations in Ceylon.

I will only drink peppermint "tea" and only if I have a stomach ache because mint helps to settle your stomach (the peppermint tea my girlfriend buys is just dried and ground mint leaves in bags).

I have a little one-mug teapot that I bought when I got fancy loose leaf tea. I really like it, but I only use it when drinking said fancy tea; if I am just drinking boring old English Breakfast then it doesn't seem worth it. When I move out I will probably use it more often, because I will have a job and money and be able to try out more fancier teas.

Ben and I got a little stack of teas from T2 a while ago, Morning, Afternoon and Evening tea, but we have only tried morning and evening. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was Morning Tea that had a smokey flavour to it, which put me off a little, but I just like the idea of drinking something call Morning Tea or Afternoon Tea. Evening Tea doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

T2 sells some pretty good stuff (their Russian Caravan and Lapsang Souchong are fantastic), however for some teas (especially Earl Grey), I go straight to these people:

This thread reminded me of a trinket I bought my mom a few years back. A tea strainer with Mikey Mouse ears for the clasp. Now i'm wondering if she uses it much. Probably does considering she bought a tin of loose earl grey when she was here last. Perhaps next time I'm at Disneyland I'll get her the rest of the tea set.
