I just got a care package from my mom that had homemade peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies in it. I will be eating these for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next week...

That looks awesome.  I'm eating some surprisingly delicious canned soup.  Campbell's Chunky soups don't suck as much as I thought they would, especially after I add cayenne pepper (like I do to pretty much everything).

I just finished eating at Baby Kay's Cajun Kitchen.  I had the jambalaya, with chicken and andouille sausage, with a Kiltlifters Ale to go with it.

Extra delicious!

My girlfriend is a vegetarian who likes bland foods, so I just made rice, and only rice, and we ate it and were happy.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for vegetarian meals? Whenever I look anything up on the internet it's always all soups and salads.

I have no problem with eating just vegetables for a meal and I try to minimise the amount of meat that I eat because a little bit goes a long way, but every time I've eaten vegetarian lasagna I've been disappointed that I'm not eating meat lasagna.

Depending on the region, Indian food is pretty much the best at being vegetarian.  Also, eggplant Parmesan is pretty delicious.

For a most delishious veggie pasta, id recommend the following:

Ravioli with roasted paprika and feta (4 person recipe)

Needed:

2 Large (as in, bout the lenght of an underarm, diametre of a wrist) carrots
1 pot/jar of roasted paprika's
200gr of feta
1 twig of fresh rosemary
40gr of hazelnuts
2 cloves of garlic
500gr of fresh ravioli (with cheese, tomatoes, whatever you want)

How to make this?!

1:

Scrape clean the carrot, cut it in 4 pieces (lenghtwise) and dice those up.
Slice up the paprika.

2:

Roast the hazelnuts in a dry wok untill they are goldenbrown and crispy. Then take them out and put them aside.

3:

Put some oil into the wok, squish the garlic and bake for about a minute.
Add the carrot and all the rosemary needles, bake for 2ish minutes.

Add 150ml of water, and put a large lid over the entirety.

Let it stew for 6 minutes (or longer. Untill the water is mostly evaporated)

4:
In the meantime, boil the ravoili as it should be boiled. Drain all the water away.

5:

When the water is mostly gone from the wok, add in the paprika and ravioli. Stir everything together for a few minutes

6:

Just before you start piling the food on your plates, chuck in the feta, stir it through as well. (i like to leave the wok on the fire for another minute for slightly better melty feta).
Garnish with hazelnuts (or just chuck them in with the feta)

How long is an underarm? And Jesus Christ, how thick are crazy Dutch carrots?

That sounds amazing though! Perhaps I will try it.

This is what I typically do the day after I have a pizza party. That, or make a soup if I've got stock on hand. Typically the omelette wins out on account of me being hungry and hungover and wanting an omelette ASAP.

I made Italian sausages and peppers yesterday and when I was sauteeing the sausages in olive oil, the oil spritzed everywhere.  I'm thinking of boiling the sausages before slicing them up and sauteeing them with the peppers next time, although this is going to lose a lot of that yummy sausage flavor.  Anyone have helpful suggestions?

If you've got fatty sausages, don't even bother with oil for frying them. Poke them a couple times each with a knife, then fry up your peppers (plus onions and mushrooms!) in that oil for maximal deliciousness. Onion really takes to that sausage fat nicely and gets delicious when caramelized in it.

Fresh raw sausages from the supermarket, but not much fat coming off of them unfortunately.  Maybe I'm just putting too much olive oil in.

I've been told that the best way to fry meat is with an animal based oil, like butter, rather than a plant based oil.

Poke them a couple times each with a knife,

Wouldn't poking them mean the sausages lose all of their flavour, though?

You lose some flavour but not too much plus that flavour gets soaked up by the veggies/fungi in the frying pan anyways.

I usually want sausages for supper, but then they are frozen and I don't want to bother thawing them, so I slice them while frozen so I can fry them from frozen, then the juices leak out so I fry things in the juice and eat it all together on a bed of rice.

Bacon is pretty good. It gets boring quickly though.

After reading this thread last night at work I decided to go home and cook up some sausages, mushrooms and onions in the hopes that eating some lovely food might make me feel a bit less down. Instead I got home, ate three containers of leftover spagetti, a loaf of garlic bread, two slices of leftover pepperoni pizza, some 15 month old cheddar cheese (probably the highlight of the evenings meal) and about 150g of cooking chocolate.

Dang.

Nah I had the big balconey doors open. Also my girlfriend was out for the evening so there was no one there to annoy. Besides, I haven't cleaned my rats cage in a while and the ammonia is more overpowering than anything that I can exude. I'll fix that tomorrow.

Made pasta with pesto, chorizo, fetta and cherry tomatoes the other day. Pretty damn tasty, and very quick to put together if you've already made the pesto.

I am eating some of the worst soup I've had. I'm sitting in the Halifax airport (oh hey Andy what is up?) eating Tim Horton's because it is cheaper than other places in here, and I tried the soup/sandwich combo and got the creamy wild mushroom soup. It is based on a broth of what I think is stale bread and discount mushrooms, plus a lot (a lot!) of cornstarch and gelatin to make it 'creamy'. It jiggles. I'm kind of stuck eating it because I am hungover hungry and unslept and it has some nutrients or just salt that I am craving. It is so atrocious though, but I can not stop.
Think of it like one of those awful car wrecks where you really want to look away but can't and then all of a sudden you are feasting on the bodies.

So, I half-assedly search for a better food thread, one about making food maybe, but to no avail. So anyway...

Tomorrow night, I am making a chicken. Probably roasting it. Maybe. I have chicken broth, and orange juice, and rosemary, and basil, and lots of other things, and am not really sure what to do with the chicken. I was originally just going to roast it is various herbs, in the chicken broth, and probably some butter and salt and pepper. But then the two gallons of delicious orange juice called out to me and begged me to include them as well. Now I'm thinking something with the orange juice and rosemary, but what?

Also, I have fresh cranberries that could be tossed into the mix somewhere.
