I had roast peaches for breakfast this morning. They were served on a toasted slice of brioche loaf with generous helping of honey ricotta splotted on top.

Local cafe has good food.

OK CANNED PEARS, BEST APPLICATION OF:
Melt butter, chocolate chips, and some cream to make rudimentary chocolate sauce, serve pears w/canning juice in bowls and drizzle chocolate sauce over top.

I just ate a whole load of toast.

Three reasons why this is noteworthy:

Toast is awesome, and eating it is always noteworthy
I have decided to flout the no-toasters-in-rooms rule and now can make breakfast without leaving my room
I experimented with my two new toast toppings, namely the Norwegian honey Jens gave me (in a ring-pull can!) and the lemon cheese I bought in Howarth. Both are delicious.

Last night me and Vicky had pork steaks covered in honey and wholegrain mustard with potato and leek mash. I just had a sandwich with the two leftover steaks in it. It was tasty!

This week is the week before payday so for dinner I am having:

Entree of Reese's cups given to me by Canadian bestie
Main of white rice with desperately wilted pak choi sauteed in butter which will hopefully be edible
Apple crumble made of apples that have been sitting decoratively on top of my microwave for probably two months and are kinda soft

This marks the last food in my house aside from pasta and slightly moldy cheddar cheese and a packet of pumpkin cup-a-soup. Some experimental cooking and food scavenging will be happening this week. Keep watching!

Update: I burnt the pak choi by putting it on to sautee and then walking away to check something. Don't do this.

Yeah, I've been broke lately too, so I've got nothing to report other than some red beans and rice. That said, I'm not in as dire straights as you are and I actually make a pretty mean example of red beans and rice.

I've just made dumpster curry (basically whatever you happen to have, which in my case is carrots, salad potatoes, sprouts and tomatoes). Hopefully it'll taste good but even if it doesn't it is dinner for tonight and tomorrow because I have no other time to cook.

Now back to revision! Time for another three-hour burst.

I ended up smearing peanut butter and some cottage cheese on a cold wheat tortilla today. The fucked up thing about this is that I am a pretty good cook. Clearly, I have just given up.

Actually, ramen with the powder from mac and cheese is something I've been meaning to try. I've heard good and bad things, but it's clear that either way the result is somewhat mindblowing.

Tonight I'm totally going to make some perogies and bacon, awesome food combination.  I'm thinking for tomorrows dinner I'm going to stuff some Parmesan cheese, garlic, and onions into a pork lion and serve it with some baked potatoes.  Gonna pick up some sour cream and bacon bits tomorrow.  And green onions.  We already have cheese...so what else can you put on a baked potato?

My favorite potato topping is steamed broccoli and cheddar cheese.  The broccoli flowers pick up little bits of the starchy potato, and the cheese gets in all the crevices, and everything complements everything else really nicely.

Bacon and perogies are so amazing. I had bacon and perogies for lunch, with sour cream and some homemade mustard on the side.
Homemade mustard was pretty good! Two tablespoons mustard seeds, crushed coarsely in a ziplock bag with an empty wine bottle because I do not have a mortar and pestle anymore, plus four tablespoons balsamic vinegar and a pinch of crushed dried hot pepper. Normally I do 1:1 mustard to solvent but I just added extra vinegar for no apparent reason. Worked out pretty amazingly deliciously.

I used to hate perogies.  I had them baked, fried, steamed, boiled, and a few other ways.  However, the only way that I've enjoyed them is when they've been boiled and then fried with bacon.  I have almost no idea why, except for the fact that bacon makes everything better.

Homemade spanikopita (from David Lebovitz's recipe, made a couple weekends ago and frozen for future use--FYI, it freezes really well, and makes an awesome lunch) and curried chicken breast.  Hedonism!

With filo, the more you work with it, the more likely it is to break your heart.  Much like my ex-wife.

Last night we had this incredible roast, marinated in this marinade made out of Shiner Bock beer, with baked potatoes. We topped them with chives and this garlic feta cheese. Oh man it was soo delicious.

Damn I'm jealous of the Shiner Bock people, as far as I've been able to tell it's simply impossible to get it up here.

I just made nachos out of these really cool gourmet tortilla chips, topped with a 3-cheese blend, pickled jalapenos, marinated grilled chicken and that crema fresca stuff that's like sour cream only I'm pretty sure its more, alive. They were delicious and reminded me of home.

the other night i fucking roasted beef! i did a simple rub of plenty o' cracked black pepper and some salt. the first half hour i realized there were no drippings to speak of so i added a couple cups of beef broth over the next few hours to even shit out. unfortunately that means the root veggies i cooked in with it didnt quite get roasted properly, but they were tasty anyways. i have ideas for how to improve next time.

Last night I was hungry so I made cupcakes but I forgot to put baking powder in so they didn't rise and I didn't have caster sugar but it came out okay tasting with regular sugar and I was experimenting with the oven at my new place so the bottoms are burnt and the tops are pale. Then I made a buttload of chocolate frosting because I slipped with the milk (soy milk too! blegh) and the icing sugar was really lumpy but a bit of a whiz with my mixer turned it out okay and really they taste all right but I am not proud.

yeah you need to leave that skanky oven tray in the bottom to diffuse the heat, otherwise everything burns on the bottom.

I realized I must be eating better than usual because frozen pizzas are piling up in my freezer. I keep buying them out of habit, but then I don't eat them because I have some spinach ravioli or braised fish or something. Thing is, if I don't eat any soon there won't be any more room in my freezer.
