Hüsker Dü alumnus Bob Mould has had a very busy solo career since his influential band disbanded, most recently releasing his Life and Times record. Lesser known and lesser active, however, is Hüsker Dü drummer Grant Hart, who will be releasing a new solo record called Hot Wax this fall.
Hart’s last solo effort was entitled Good News for Modern Man and came out in 1999. A full decade later, Hot Wax features appearances from members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion, which may at first seem like quite the surprise but makes sense considering the record was partially recorded at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango.
Bob Mould's had a productive, if spotty, solo career, but he just recently hit his groove with
District Line and
Life & Times. While Mould's recent work with Brendan Canty & Amy Domingues has been mostly an extension of his work in Hüsker Dü and Sugar, Hart's recent work is mostly a mystery - he hasn't released anything in ten years. His other post-Dü stuff is kinda lackluster Americana. I'm torn on the new track available on his
Myspace - it's a little melodramatic, but boy does it ever
sound good.
