[ I have very little memory of a lot of the things that happened before, cos of my ridiculously poor memory, despite the fact I've spent 55 and a half days here over the past three years.

I have spent, uh, 206 days, 4 hours and 31 minutes on here.

Only 8 days here after being registered for 4 and a half years. I joined after I popped my head in and saw a familiar face -- Khar. I knew khar from a game forum years before I ever even read QC. I've known of jeph for longer than qc's been around, he was on the dumbrella boards when I was a long long time ago.

I know my time got reset. At the moment it is 43 days and 59 minutes.

I've really only started posting a fair bit in maybe the past year and a half or so? I've posted pretty steadily since I joined, but it was mostly in forums that aren't HURR and entirely unremarkable. I think it was a very long time before anybody actually deigned to acknowlege one of my posts.

According to my old posts, when I first registered I only had one tattoo, and I was skinny! Dang!

One of my first posts was chewing someone out for not being nice to n00bs:

SHUT UP -> THINK -> WRITE -> REVIEW WHAT YOU WROTE -> POST

Yeah, cos pissing all over this thread -in 30pt bold italics, no less- is completely constructive. Unless you're a mod (I'm assuming you're not) then you're really in no position to bitch about the perceived worth of any thread. No one is forcing you to read it.

Practice what you preach there buddy

This forum would just about be the greatest place on the Net if all the "veterans" got off their high horses and eased off the newbs a little bit.

HILARIOUS!

Oh shit:

Quote from: Favourite lyricists thread
Neil Peart (Rush)
Cedric Bixler Zavala (The Mars Volta)- yes, really.

WHAT

It turns out many of the forumites I admire and think of as the "forum celebrities" have been here for far less time than me.

I think the thing that people would actually remember as happening around the time I registered was that we had that "Australian Eyes Only" thread, where all of the Australians made plans to attack the rest of the world with our most deceptively cuddly wildlife. (Instead of the usual, obviously deadly wildlife)

Also, this is my 4000th post. Jesus fuck! I think the past 3000 have been since about a year ago.

(OK enough nostalgia)

When I joined the first time I thought the Internet was really super awesome, please, and I think I was like 16? Now I am almost 22 and I kind of hate the Internet but it is in my fuccin blood and all. And sometimes I try to make the board awesome again but I think that if I do I will just get banned again.

If making it awesome means reliving your experience as a 16-year-old, perhaps it would be better to move beyond it...

I dunno PW, I was having a great time at age 16. No work, no responsibilities, school was easy, friends were great. Still have the great friends, but not much else left over. Then again, at 16 I barely spent any time online.

How do you people manage that much time?

i don't know what the current meebo situation is, but way way back when i actually used to participate in gabbly it was hosted on the forum and so all of the time you spent in gabbly was also recorded as you being logged into the forum. i also used to leave myself logged into the forum way more often when i was still in school cos i'd spend days off studying while checking new posts every few hours between study breaks, and even if i spent a total of maybe 10-15 minutes actually reading and posting i would ultimately appear to be logged in all day for like 15 hours.

...except i have also quit the forum a whole bunch of times since i joined and my time off has added up to maybe two years total so uh, part of that might also be all of those times i have sat in front of my computer on the forum with nothing to do except hit the refresh button every 30 seconds.

That makes sense now.  Also, if what I've quoted below is true, then it'll make even more sense, because that'll mean I've spent as much time as I have over the past week, rather than over my entire time on the board.

Remember that it's only counting from when we switched over to SMF.

The forums are significantly bigger than the used to be, and the comic attracts a different sort of person these days. We can say it's because we don't chew on new members anymore but I think it's because we're harder to please than we were four years ago.
You could say that being more tolerant has persuaded some less than desirable folk to stick around a little longer than we'd like, but at the same time a lot of the core regulars now are people that would almost certainly not have stayed if we were as hostile as we used to be. I'm fairly comfortable with this.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go look for somebody to bully in the music forum.

It's not just time logged on, it's time active. Leaving your computer logging in to the forums for days will not work because it goes by if you have done something in the past 15 minutes. I got this amount of time because I have my computer on basically as soon as I get up and the forum running and I check threads and refresh in the hopes that something interesting has happened fairly regularly while doing something else. I also didn't have a job for a long time, so I had a lot of spare time.

Still, 206 days is a lot.

I have spent 15 days, 15 hours, and 23 minutes online.

2004 yelley would probably not believe the way things have turned out for 2009 yelley.

Regged on October 8, 2006 which is about a month and a half after I snuggled up with the QC kids.

I remember "doing it wrong" and randomly showing up on gabbly before I even had made an account. I used to talk with vegikitkat, nolawnocrime, supersheep, fatty, princy, tommydski, and valleyparade every day on gabbly and had early forum crushes on Tania and Julia. For about two weeks everyone assumed I was Kieffer, then the argument became whether I was more like Tommy or Kieffer, or some terrible hybrid of the two. I used to just post and hang out on gabble gabble hey! during work when I was trying to get fired, which also lead to my first thread creation, as Tommy demanded I document my efforts with the forums. Within 2 months of joining, I was hanging out with Kieffer and Huda in NYC, and it has been a swift downhill road since.

Check out my awesome intro post dudes:
Quote
After a good 5-10 minutes of debate, I have decided to give in to my inner internet addict and joined the forums. I only recently discovered the love that is QC, and ended up reading all 700+ comics in one day. Luckily my job is slow, and boss slower. The only downside being, now I go from 100s per day, to 1.

Anyhow, the mushy about me stuff:
During the day I get my liberal arts education on at the University of Connecticut and work as office bitch in a business department there for my staying alive money.
When not chained into a desk or cubicle, I'm usually either wasting away hours on the internets, or out doing the hipster college kid act. I live about an hour outside Boston, so I all too often empathize with Marten being scrawny indie kid without a clue.

I am sure I will quickly become far too addicted here for my own good, so thanks a lot you enablers.

I will never leave.

Yes, at one point in my life I suppose I was an internet predator in the Orient.

But now I am just yelley on the work, sleep, repeat cycle... not much of interest to post about.

Hey totally unrelated - what happened to meebly? It doesn't work for me anymore. Did we change to a new thing and everyone forgot to tell me (or purposefully didn't tell me to keep me away)?

You could say that being more tolerant has persuaded some less than desirable folk to stick around a little longer than we'd like, but at the same time a lot of the core regulars now are people that would almost certainly not have stayed if we were as hostile as we used to be. I'm fairly comfortable with this.

That's pretty much my problem with this place altogether. Like, I'm obviously not gonna become like a troll and just fuck with shit, that not my style, but I will show up and grumble occasionally about a place I really enjoyed before now being kinda lame and shitty. Like when your favourite local hotspot gets infested with tourists. Take that analogy how you want.

For the record, I joined on March 10th, 2004.

Julia, you are clearly not hip enough. If you are hanging at a place long enough to where it is infested with "those people" (you know the ones) you are just not as undie. You need to always be at the forefront of knowing where the old man dives are. HEAVY WINK.

Hey, guys, remember "undie" and "De-pop"? Do we still use those?

I didn't think "undie" ever really caught on in the first place. I wish we still used "de-pop".

March 16th 2004.

I remember posters like Cheesegimp, and the conincidental duo hoopyfroodcat and thehoopiestfrood not to mention back when Jeph was an active member of his own community. Out and back when Jeph and Heather were doin there thing. Also this was back when Claire was the forum mascot.

This is actually the second forum Ive really had a presence on, the prior one being www.evilstar.net before it tanked.

*edit*

Oh and other things like Ruyi hadn't yet shown her face, or that stupid ORLY meme with the owl.
