So my aforementioned sound project is to design music for The Tempest. We have to have pre-show, Act I intro, intermission, Act II (actually Act III, Scene ii) intro music, and post-show music. The caveat being that the music we use has to be non-European and pre-20th Century (although one exception was made for a girl who's doing viking music).
Additionally a translation of the lyrics (if applicable) has to be provided, which is where I ran into problems. I originally planned to use Inuit music, but I ran into a lack of available quality recordings, and an extreme lack of available translations. So today, the night before the project is due, I am switching to using traditional Korean music. This means that 2 days of work is down the drain, but those 2 days yielded almost nothing. This is going to be easy to do in a day by comparison.
Previously scrapped ideas include Ottoman (all I could really find was a style called 'Ottoman classical,' which was too European) and various Native American tribes including Choctaw, Catawba, and Delaware (again there's an availability issue - especially trying to find tribal specific music instead of generic 'Native American.'). So yeah, having a lot of fun cutting music right now.
