At least you're still firmly in the playoffs (atm). Unless the B's get someone by the deadline I'm not so confident. They're getting way too thin in a lot of places.

Yesterday Steve Abraham passed the 10,000 mile make in his quest to beat the record for distance cycled in a year. Since January First he has spent more than 700 hours on the road. Only another 65,066 miles left to go.

Well, we eked out a win, at the cost of one of our star players. Patrick Kane out for 6-10 weeks with a broken collarbone...

Ups and downs.

Sarah Storey missed out on the women's Hour Record. A phenomenal effort and she has set a new British record and a new Cat C5 record. She definitely ranks as one of my favourite sports people.

Ian Stannard destroyed a three man Quick-Step group in the Omloop Het Neiuwsblad to take the win. More spectacular given that he's come back from breaking his back last year. You can see in the way Boonen rides in the last 2k that he's just gutted he can't get back up to Stannard and Terpstra. Some people just want to win more than others.

I saw a re-run of the final 5km of yesterday's race. Stannard showed no chill whatsoever. Like, I looked up, 4km left, I refresh forum, look up again, 1.8km left. WTF PEOPLE.

It's strange because from the ground you watch him grinding it out in a big gear and it almost looks like a slow slug out between him and Terpstra who's holding his wheel and doing the same. It's only when you see the overheads and you realise just how fast and hard they're going.

That's the beauty of cycling. Although it's even more extreme when it's an attack on some important climb. My father usually says that they're just not well informed enough, and they're not aware that there's a freaking 15% slope in front of them xD

Welp. Last night solidifies it. The Sharks deserve to have their playoff streak broken, because what else will light the fire under their asses to succeed in the future? Completely gutless effort all season.

I sure hope "masturbatory" is figurative and "banner" is literal.

I refuse to give Doug Wilson's do-nothing trade strategy credit for us creaming the Habs, but I will say that a 4 goal shutout feels goddamn great. Especially against a division leader.

So the one day Valverde finally does something he's beaten to the finish line thoroughly by a dude named Zdanek Stybar.

Apart from that, the Strade Bianche Eroica was a very interesting race.

Stybar has form for being an upsetter though. I think he gets dismissed a bit because he comes from cyclocross instead of track and road but it seems to have set him up well for the cobbled clsssics. I think a lot of good things will come from him. Check out some of his CX world cup riding.

He certainly was the smartest one of the leading group. It's important to keep your energy if there's a 1km 18% cobbled slope to the finish, and that's something Vandermaet and Valverde didn't do as well.

Last night's Canucks at Sharks game has got me so royally infuriated, even 12 hours after the fact. I wanted to murder every zebra in the house last night. Literally the worst officiating I've ever seen in sports.

If it's of any consolation, officiating in the NHL is at an all-time low, league-wide.

And you think YOU have it bad - think about how I'm dealing with things right now.

Karlsson is probably more exciting than Weber, if only because he's not as good defensively.

CONCACAF soccer referees are the worst on the planet, across all sports.  NHL refs have never been great

There will be a KHL referee doing his first NHL game in the Edmonton/Detroit matchup tonight. Can't be any worse than the current crop, that's for sure.

It's been awhile since I've seen someone call a penalty for diving concurrent with a penalty for roughing, so that has to be some sort of improvement.

To be fair, in the British Pedalcar Champs I've complained that we're going to get boring if there aren't a few more teams contending for the top places and my team is the one that has been winning it recently. Generally it isn't good for a sport, either specatators or competitors if there isn't a degree of jeopardy involved. It drives innovation in tactics, design and training and keeps the sport fresh.

Greg Classen recovering from mugging, stabbing after end-of-season party.

Greg was one of the main players on the Milwaukee Admirals 2004 Calder Cup team. He was a friend, and his parents are just fantastic and down to earth. Sad to hear that something like this happened, though.

Its the start of the Spring Classics today with the epic Milan-San Remo.

can't decide on a favourite for the win. Split by wanting either a Cavendish sprint finish, Swift confirming his puncheur credentials or Stybarmaking a cheeky move. I suspect the latter will be well marked though. No escapees today I reckon.

100 points, four points from clinching a playoff berth, and still sitting pretty atop the Division.

I think this is the latest Nashville has been #1 in their division since 1998.

The moment I decided to think the Bruins were playing good hockey was the second they decided to say, "NOPE". 6 strait losses, technically tied with Ottawa for the 8th seed, but have played one more game than them....

Krejci's back, but Hamilton is out, the guys they traded for at the deadline are out... Unless Rask just plays out of his mind for the last few games I just don't see it.

I was looking forward tomorrow to give a first quarter update on the progress of Steve Abraham's attempt to break the year cycling record. If things had been going according to plan he would have covered over 17000 miles. Alas it looks as if Steve's efforts have been cut short. Yesterday he was involved in a collision with a moped and ended up with two broken bones in his ankle. The latest is that he now needs to have surgery to implant a plate and screws.

There's no professional aspect to this kind of sporting effort so Steve doesn't have the back up of a contract, sick pay, employment insurance etc. Unless by some miracle he can get back on his bike and carry on riding, it looks like he's unemployed. Fortunately for him, it looks like the cycling community is rallying around and committing to supporting him at least until he's recovered and looking for work again.
