On motorsport news, Valentino Rossi won his 109th race last night, and the first opener since 2010. Looks like this'll be his 20th year as championship contender.

(Writing with indifference makes me sound as if I'm sick of him. I'm not, he's incredibly good).

For the other 2 categories of the motorbike racing world championship, errybody and dey momma crashed in Moto2 leaving Jonas Folger to win, with Xavier Simeon second and Thomas Luthi third while Johann Zarco's gearbox apparently broke mid-straight. On Moto3 Alexis Masbou won the race in a very contested group that included veteran Efrén Vázquez (4th), Spanish champion and possibly rookie of the year Fabio Quartararo (7th) and English rider Danny Kent (3rd) amongst others.

(Efrén may or may not actually be a distant relative of mine, so that's why I mention him prominently)

Nobody cheers for Cavendish.  He is a tosser.

Ottawa Senators run to the playoffs was one for the ages. They were legitimately a bottom five team at Christmas.   23-4-4 to end the season is remarkable.  Plus, their best goalie, leading goalscorer are rookies, and another Senator (Stone) might win the Calder as top rookie.

All of which makes you look even harder at the Oilers I guess.

Either the Preds are going to get swept in four by the Hawks, or this is going to be a mirror of the epic Calder Cup run of their farm club from 11 years prior - 7-6-5-4.

Well, it's half with no score of the Women's World Cup, in the China/Canada match.  Neither is a team I particularly follow, but I do tend to /slightly/ side with Canada, since they're the host country.[1]  Either way, they've both been playing strongly.  Canada has had the most possession, but China has had the closest shot on goal, and I was surprised when it didn't hit the net.

[1] If I'm not invested in the outcome, I like the host to get something.

I don't know if I have enough alcohol in my apartment to make the Browns-Seahawks game watchable.

On the plus side, my school won its first ever bowl game. I ended up not watching it in favor of the Democratic debate (I just haven't been as interested since the FBS move), but I regret that decision because apparently we were way down until a 4th-quarter rally and it all came down to a last second field goal.

I think my point about 'excitement level' is proven though. The way we played this year, we could have been FCS champions easily. But instead of a long, exciting tournament-style post-season, we, the runner ups in a middling conference, got to play the runner-ups from another middling conference in a bowl that has only existed for two years in a stadium smaller than our own. And while for everyone else that might be higher profile, I have a hard time caring about that. I already have an FBS team that I've loved for my entire life, and they're playing in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day

The Browns are dumping Mike Pettine and the GM, Ray Farmer. This was only the second season for both. Who will be next in line for the least secure jobs in professional sports, I wonder. The Browns haven't kept a coach for more than two seasons since Romeo Crennel was fired in 2008.

Johnny Football Fuck-up also appears to be on his way out, amid rumors he violated team rules by partying in Las Vegas in disguise during the last game rather than showing up to his league-mandated concussion check-up. So, cross another one off the list:

Apparently he wants to play for the Cowboys. He can go right ahead, the last thing we need is a quarterback who can't play AND consistently generates negative press. But they'd be idiots to take him. He spends more time on the bench than on the field, and it won't be long before he ends up in prison and/or, based on his apparent attitude toward concussions, out of the game for good.

What a fucking year.

The QBs in the draft don't appear all that good either.

And I wouldn't be too surprised if the Cowboys did take him, I mean, they already have Greg Hardy.

The 2016 HoF inductees for Major League Baseball are Ken Griffey, Jr and Mike Piazza.

Griffey managed 99.3% of the vote and only 3 people did not vote him in (which is ridiculous that it isn't 100%, but still the highest percentage ever achieved).

Sounds like it's time to rename it:

National (that's true)
Association of (it is one)
Stock (not a single stock inch of sheet metal  on any of these things since the 80's)
Car (technically they are, despite not being street legal)
Auto (redundant)
Racing (that's debatable now)

It is now "N.A.C."

So today I found out that an NFL player who is going to play in the superbowl went to a rival high school of mine. We were from the same graduating class, so we definitely played against each other (there are also two other players from that graduating class playing in the NFL).

This is the high school where a player broke part of my spine. I don't know to feel about that, but I do think it's neat that I got to play against some great players in my American Football career.

Even after 6 years of living in North Carolina I have pretty much no emotional investment in the Panthers, and as a Browns fan there's no love lost between me and the Broncos either. I had other stuff to do so I didn't end up watching, but I'll be sure to look for the commercial highlights reel.

I use my relatives out in Colorado for why I've always been a Broncos fan despite living in New Jersey but part of it's just not wanting to root for a New Jersey team that nobody acknowledges as such just because of their name. Yeah, I get they both used to be in the city and it's still the NYC area, but still, fuck that. Also fuck things taking place in "NJ/NY" when they just  take place in New Jersey (2013 Wrestlemania and 2013-14 Superb Owl, I'm looking at you).
