Didn't see that one coming at all.

Neither did the Cardinals, apparently.

Yeah, they must have been high on their Vikings performance and came in overconfident. Not really a smart move against the 49ers; if you look at their schedule they're right up there with the Falcons when it comes to defensible losses. Probably the best "bad" team in the league.

I did enjoy it a lot, I have to say. For some reason I have decided that Kurt Warner is a dick. Don't know why.

QPR appointed Paul Hart as their manager, as I'm sure you've heard by now Harry.

You might not think it now but that's a really good appointment. Hart has been unlucky with his managerial jobs thus far but he's an excellent coach. In the 90s he was the Leeds youth team manager and they won borderline everything. Practically all of that team of young lads is playing in the Premiership now. He's got a good footballing mind and the right mentality. If they give him a decent run (as unlikely as that seems given the track record of the QPR board) he'll have the club in good standing for the future.

Actually I hadn't heard, I follow the results but I don't tend to pay much attention to the comings and goings of managers and players because the names mean nothing to me. The results have been pretty dreadful recently (three losses and a draw from their last four games, and the losses were heavy ones, too) so it's not surprising they've gone and got themselves a new manager, boards being prone to knee-jerk reactions like that. Thanks for the heads up!

In other news, holy shit the Super 14 rugby comp starts in, like, two months. I'm really looking forward to watching the A.C.T. Brumbies run around this season, it looks like they've got a hell of a team! Matt Giteau back home where he belongs, plus some amazing recruiting in the forwards (Stephen Hoiles, Rocky Elsom and George Smith are going to be a phenomenal back row, and Justin Harrison will bring some much needed experience and lineout skill to the team and should be welcomed back with open arms by the home crowd after his dalliance with New South Wales). Can't wait!

I can't really blame him for chasing the money over to Western Australia because when you're a professional sports person you've got ten years, fifteen tops, to make as much money as you can before you retire and then you've got another forty, fifty, or sixty years of life to live with chronic joint problems and no skills to speak of other than playing sport; with that in mind I can't blame Giteau for getting pissed off when the money he was promised didn't come through because the Western Force decided to make shady third-party deals (that they weren't supposed to be entering into under A.R.U. guidelines) with a snake-oil salesman.

Going up to Carlisle play off semi final without a ticket and ending up sitting in their end negates any "part time" argument.

Are you guys trying to have a Leeds pissing contest or something?

Not particularly.
I'm not old enough to have been to the games the other guy had, just wanted to show I was a serious fan.

A lot of Leeds fans these days are stay away - armchair fans.

Like me! Though football only started to pique my interest a few years ago and I didn't start following with any attention until this season, so I think I can be forgiven for still being at the armchair stage.

I really hope we don't lose this weekend though, partly just for selfish reasons since I'm currently staying with a Southampton fan. His grin would not be pleasant.

Apparently the Wild's equipment van went up in flames last night after a practice in Ottawa. They're somehow playing tonight's game against the Senators, but I can't imagine it'll go all that well. Niklas Backstrom's gear was completely destroyed, and well..lets just say goalies are REALLY superstitious about their gear.

This probably isn't a good sign for the rest of his season:

Once that field goal rattled off the upright I was sure the Saints were going to make the comeback. It was all so perfect. :(

An interesting wrinkle here is that if the Saints lose another game the Vikings could still end up with the number one seed due to the conference record tiebreaker. I haven't really set my hopes on it, however, since the Saints don't have anyone tough left on their schedule whereas the Vikings-Giants game may very well determine whether NY makes the playoffs or not. Home field sure would be nice though.

You guys have no idea how happy that Steelers-Packers game made me. I wanted the Packers to lose, of course, but I also have Rodgers and Jennings on my fantasy team and it happens to be fantasy playoffs time. Last second Packers loss AND the Rodgers-Jenning hookup netted me 54 points. It's like an early Christmas!

Basically, a lot of the teams I sort of like won.

Yeah but the Chargers always lose in the playoffs sooo... no big. Falcons.. meh.

But man the Eagles. Always a late surprise. They're so "meh" through the middle of the reg. season and then Andy Reid is like "oh yeah coaching" and does that till they reach the playoffs. Then he gives up again.

What was up with Washington faking a field goal and dropping into a pseudo-Wildcat?

I meant, the Giants were all "wtf is this shit" and called a time out, THEN THEY TRIED IT AGAIN. The kicker threw the worlds dumbest interception..

You're terrible, Washington. How the hell did you manage to beat Oakland?

DAAAA BEARS

Granted, this win is mostly a benefit from Viking mistakes, but I'll take anything at this point.

Also: Jay Cutler, 20/35, 273 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT

These are numbers I can get behind. Where the fuck has our offensive line been all season?

I dunno, I rather feel like they got an assist from some mediocre defensive line play-- the Vikings offensive and defensive lines just got plain pushed around by the Cardinals and they haven't been the same since. It didn't help that Pat Williams was out either. Without him clogging up the middle the ends just can't get away with freelancing like they're used to, and god knows Jared Allen always rushes the passer first and checks for running backs second, if at all. The whole "We only play one half during any given game" thing definitely came back with vengeance too. We've had a good season, so I suppose I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but this isn't really the best way to head into the playoffs. I mean, c'mon, we curbstomped the Bears last time, so what the hell guys?

Yeah but Chihuahuas are vicious little bastards.

So, cricket. I was briefly considering going to the last day of the Boxing Day Test here in Melbourne, but I didn't have any money and it's stinking hot today so I decided to cower in my house and watch it on the T.V. instead. Good thing, too: Pakistan completely capitulated, going from three wickets down at the start of the day's play to all out just a few minutes after the lunch break. Shame, but at least they've shown that they can put up something of a fight and at least the Test matches this summer are going to five days instead of two-and-a-half days like they used to when the Australian team was basically untouchable. Shane Watson was named man of the match, deservedly I guess, but after he made a complete tool of himself in the last Test against the West Indies I can't stand the sight of the man.

meh. I'd care about that more if I respected the Cowboys as a franchise. And any hope of that that hadn't been squandered by Wade Philips, T.O., and Romo was ruined by the ugly-ass, pointlessly retarded screen that hangs over their field. I hope it falls and kills them all.
