It shouldn't have. That was some colossally stupid decision making to get it to overtime.

He played awful well until that last pass though, which is rather a shame. The Vikings offensive line should collectively feel rather guilty the next time the collect a paycheck, because they did not play well at all.

The stars must have aligned over New Orleans tonight, because there was no way that they earned that victory.

Musta been some voodoo that greased the ball but only when Adrian Peterson touched it. Basically, the Saints played less badly than the Vikings. I'll certainly be rooting for the Saints in two weeks.

It wasn't just Peterson by a long shot-- there was a ridiculous number of fumbles. Bottom line is, they tried to get fancy and fake out the other team when they should have just ran it or dumped it off in the middle and take a shot at the field goal. Why try to get the other team to commit a penalty when you're on the road in one of the loudest domes in the league and cannot afford a penalty yourself? That's just dumb and the worst possible time to take a 5 yard penalty.

This is karma for Favre butt-raping every Packer fan and refusing to acknowledge, must less feel remorseful, about it. It feels somehow justifiably appropriate as a Packer fan to see him end this Viking season with a stupid, ill-timed interception.

Will he finally stay retired this time? I really lost my patience for Favre around the time of the third un-retirement and just wanted him to go away. It's great that he's still playing well at 40, but Jesus.

I have no idea what the Vikings are going to do without him, though. Not that he's the only good player on the team or anything, far from it, but having to go back to Tavaris Jackson isn't going to get them another chance at the Super Bowl.

He was nearly destroyed at the end of that game, and he looked about 85 during the postgame press conference. If he comes back next year, he won't last the regular season.

If I were his wife, I'd forbid him to do it.

I am just kinda annoyed that this Super Bowl isn't gonna be a Jets v. Vikings game. Because I was seriously hoping there'd be some decent gameplay this year. Instead it's probably just gonna be another Halftime-only game for me.

I had a small window, of about 2 quarters, in which I was thinking:'yeah ... why NOT The Jets?' Would have liked to see no Manning in the Superbowl. Alas ...

I just finished watching the Vikings-Saints game. I actually thought that the Vikings deserved it more but that the Saints won thanks to fumbles and some questionable decisions. Still, good game. Enjoyed that.

Personally I hope that Fvre adds another year to his career. Whatever you think of him, his playing is never boring at least.

edit: I must talk about how great the Spurs-Leeds game was Saturday. I watched with three of my friends, one of which is a big Spurs supporter. It was easily one of the five best games I've ever seen, and GODDAMN YOU, JERMAINE BECKFORD.

Adding insult to injury, we decided to replay the game in FIFA10, and I was stuck playing as Leeds. The lowest moment of my entire life came when I scored with Beckford in the 86th minute to win 3-2, jumped up and started celebrating, only to stop and realize what just happened.

Everytime I play as Leeds on FIFA10 I lose. But then that's because I always play my brother who is ten times better than me, and also Beckford's constantly offside.

It was pretty damn great. Beckford bringing pain to others is a heartening thing.

To go to a non-partisan perspective, anyone else see the Ivory Coast vs Algeria game? Kader Keita's goal to put Ivory Cast ahead just before full time was completely stunning, but then Algeria equalize about a minute later and end up winning in extra time. Kind of a shame to see Ivory Coast go out and a pity they fell apart a bit in extra time, but great for Algeria and they did deserve it.

That was a good second half of football. As a neutral I'm glad it went to the wire like that, but I'll be cheering Villa in the final.

In the SPL, Hibs pinch a last-minute goal to win at Celtic Park whereas Rangers beat St. Mirren 2-0 and go ten points clear at the top! Yay!

Man, I just watched a few highlights of the Ghana-Nigeria and Egypt-Algeria games and I feel kind of torn about the whole thing.  On the one hand it's great to see the Ghana players getting really stoked about getting into the ACN final, but on the other hand we've got to play them, Germany and Serbia in the World Cup group stage, so fucking hell.

Did you see the compilation of Viking fan reactions when Favre threw that last interception? It was a trainwreck of pain and comedy. I literally held my head in my hands for five minutes after that happened.

I think it's fair to say as a fan base, we're not exactly equipped to handle these things very well. The fun part is the border line self-loathing you feel for being dumb enough to think they might win of these things. There's a sports writer who noted that once every 10 years or so the Vikings like to eviscerate their fans, and it's sadly pretty accurate.

The Czechs are a team in decline, so we could well snatch something away and get a result at Hampden.

Spain are frightening. Torres & Villa vs McManus & Caldwell is almost nightmarish.

In other news, it's Super Bowl Sunday today.

The Saints, other than being from a city that deserves something good to happen to it more than anything, also have that dreamhunk Scott Fujita on the team. He is so smart and awesome and hot and smart and pro-gay rights and choice and freedom and his teammates call him a pinko communist fag from berkeley which makes me like him more. I feel like I'm gonna be doodling his name with like hearts and squiggles all over everything soon.
