Yeah really happy about the Saints, That Drew Brees seems like a really nice guy as well. His press conference made me happy (until he started up the god talk).

Also pretty blown away that a) Peyton Manning did a Favre in the most improtant part of the game, considering he's ice-cold most of the time b) he managed to get showered an into a suit between leaving the field and his press conference. If I'd just been responsible for my team fucking up the Superbowl I'd wanna sit in the locker room and wallow for a while.

Also, was the audio and visual of The Who's set, like, unbelievably out-of-sync for anyone else? Like, 5 seconds out of sync or something? I ended up leaving the room because it was too shitty to watch.

Man that was a fun game. I called my lady (who's in nola) after it was over and she was on her way to Bourbon Street and I could barely hear her over the din. Ridiculous.

So uh now that the Super Bowl is over, sports do still exist, right? I heard there's this thing people are doing right now called the Olympics I guess it's a biggish thing

Sucks about that dude from the Republic of Georgia who got killed in luge practice. Apparently he left the track at 88 miles an hour and slammed his head into a steel beam. What a shitty thing, all hoping to maybe win recognition for an accomplishment that you and your country can be proud of, and instead you get a faceful of cold, hard steel.

Insensitive quips aside, it really does suck. Winter Olympics are more badass than summer Olympics 'cause they are more deadly in my opinion.

Women's ice hockey kinda bums me out though due to the lack of body checking. My hockey instincts are always say that the quickest way to the puck is through violence. Of course, that turned kinda problematic for me when I topped out at 5'8" and had few other appreciable skills, but I still find the no checking thing puzzling.

There's no checking, but there's certainly a level of violence. I spent the whole of my last shift on Friday face down on the ice - every time I got up someone slammed me again. Maybe I'm a bit biased but I prefer watching women's ice hockey since there seems to be more skill involved. The men's teams tend to be better but women have to be more tactical.

As much as I complained about the Canada 18 - 0 Slovakia drubbing and I will proceed to complain about the USA 12 - 1 China mauling there was some good to come out of it, namely this stunning goal (may be UK only video). However, the commentator claims it will not happen in the men's games which I doubt. Unless he means that there will be better goals just not that move which would make sense because there are amazing goals pretty much every night in the NHL anyway.

In terms of tactics for hits I understand where May is coming from because there is a lot of jostling and pushing even though there is no checking but I'm not so sure about tactics in general as the attack and defense setups seem quite uncoordinated in the women's games that I have watched so far.

It'd sure be nice if we had coverage of the games.

Yes, I know that technically channel 9 is covering it but god damn is this the worst coverage I've ever seen. Three hours of highlights in the morning and then those same highlights again in the late evening. I wish SBS still got to show what the commercial network that picked up the rights doesn't.

I really really enjoyed the mens snowboard cross, we watched the entire thing from the heats right into the final and wow, that thing got exciting. I don't like the womens so much though, cos the men raced 4 at a time so there was chance of collision and it was more like a race, but the womens is all time trial bullshit.

Over in the UK the BBC have pretty much round the clock coverage of several different events at once through the interactive service. Its pretty neat and makes me not mind paying the ridiculous license fee so much.

Ok never mind so it turns out the women do race in the final stages. And these final stages happened to be more awesome than the mens! Wooo the British woman got 8th cos she hurt her foot but its always nice to see the host side win stuff and Canada pretty much took this event by storm.

I went over to my captain's boyfriend's flat last night to watch the ice hockey with some of the team on their enormous plasma screen TV (so much better than a laptop screen) and there was about ten minutes of hockey followed by four hours of women's luge. Why is that even a sport? I wanted to watch HD ice hockey :(

That is exactly my problem with the BBC's coverage. Ice Hockey is the only thing I care about at the Winter Olympics (the snowboard cross was pretty cool though) and they show very little of it. I haven't seen any of the men's games and other than the first couple of women's games I haven't seen any of those either.

Can someone explain to me why the US snowboard cross team (both mens' and womens') WORE JEANS?

I would think jeans are not a very snowboard-friendly item of clothing.

I missed it, but I did hear the crowd effin' explode since they were all in the same arena. Team USA literally had to huddle up because they couldn't hear each other.

They mentioned this on the BBC coverage. They're not actually jeans, just styled to look that way.
