jwhouk: its ok to be a closet Jags fan most people are. It's embarrassing especially when you have games like yesterday. The names you mentioned aside from MJD were from a golden era of Jags football that they have never even gotten close to replicating. Brunell went on to backup QB and actually get a ring for it. Coughlin got a ring after leaving the Jags as well. So are we just cursed? Who knows but I'll keep supporting them till we find out.

The Brownlow debacle is just another in the huge pile of reasons that the majority of AFL umpires need to be replaced. Judd shouldn't have polled any more than half the votes he actually got.

The only redeeming feature of the whole night was the look on Eddie's face.

It' the same as with Goodse's wins, they absolutely carried their team and there isn't anybody in the team that comes close, so they get the votes. Swan probably should have won but the talent in Collingwood is just that much better on average and you get 'stolen' votes.

Nice to see Eddie suffer though, always a plus.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I wish the Vikings played in the NFC West instead of a real division.

it literally just became a real division again though, so i guess there's that?

it hurt me to see the vikings lose to miami, even more so when i looked at the game recap. woof.

and the niners are gonna get murdered tonight, so, yay?

It was a brutal one for a lot of the fair weather vikings fans I hang out with, yeah. For some reason, they just don't seem to understand that the Vikings are traditionally not a poor football team but rather that they are frontrunners and choke artists. That's a subtle but crucial difference. It meant that when the Vikings climbed back into it I wasn't really surprised-- In terms of yardage our offense was actually doing pretty well, so it's not like it was a shock to see them get back in the red zone-- but neither was I really surprised when they failed to seal the deal AGAIN. My brother-in-law though? I think by the end of the game he was ready to set himself on fire.

Anyway, I don't really expect the Vikings to be cover your eyes awful like a lot of people will whine, but I do think this is a REALLY bad year to spot the Packers and Bears 2 games. Neither of you guys exactly have a murderous schedule.

Mainly I liked how at the end of the game none of the commentators bothered to explain what would happen next. I was sitting with a bunch of friends and none of us knew whether there was going to be extra time or not, and we were waiting for the commentators - you know, those people who are paid to know everything about the game and explain it to the peopel watching - to tell us, and there was just silence. Thanks Bruce McAveney, I'd temporarily forgotten how useless you are.

I watched sport last night! I've never watched a whole game before, or payed much attention.
Our local rugby league team (GO TIGERS) was playing the finals qualifier so we went to the pub up the road which was completely packed and drank delicious local pale ale and cheered and booed and stuff.
We lost by one point due to a field goal by the other team, and were within about two metres of scoring a try in the last minute, which would have made us win, which was pretty nailbiting.

Also: Rugby League is fucked up, you guys.

Surely anybody who didn't know what was going to happen was tipped off by Maxwell's hissy fit.

It was very interesting to see the differing reactions of the two teams, with the Saints very positive and the Pies (or at least the skipper) very negative, especially when you consider that if it had gone into extra time St Kilda would almost certainly have come out as winners.

I blame that stupid "Uh-oh Jaguars" rap they did before the AFC title game.

And Vikings fans should have known what they were getting when The Diva From Kiln chose to wear purple. One TD up, two INT's back.

It doesn't help that Jacksonville is both sprawling and relatively unpopulated. I mean, it's half the size of the Minneapolis-St.Paul metro area and has a quarter of the population-- and the Twin Cities are considered "small market" and as major metro areas go it's not very crowded. Jacksonville seems like a nice enough place to live and all but frankly I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea to put a team there. I just don't see how that works unless you've got a team that's won a hojillion NFL championships like the Packers.

I'd personally like a 51-48 win. Only because I've got Aaron as my QB in fantasyland, while my opponent (and the league commisioner) has the Packer D.

Jacksonville had a huge stadium already in place for the Fl GA game so it prolly seemed an easy fit. We had the Super Bowl and everyone doubted us but we pulled it off very well actually. Problem is a huge majority of Jacksonville's population is transient because they are all Navy. So they really don't have any loyalty to the jaguars. It also sucks that we have a losing season every year. Fun Fact: Duval County is the largest county by area in the United States but your right our population is sprawled out badly because of it.

No offense, but that's not what I heard at all from the people I know who went. They'd say something like "Everyone was nice but..." and then it'd segue into a story about hotels being overbooked, not enough cab service and ATMs that capped transactions at $100 and then gouged you per withdrawal.

Really? Seemed in the news people were pleasantly surprised at how well we did. I went to the parties leading up to the game and everything was great. Granted i lived locally so I didn't have to worry about hotels or anything. I get the taxi complaint since we don't have many and they take forever to pick you up. ATM surcharges and withdrawal limits i don't get since I was able to take 300 out no problem and paying 1.50-2.00 is normal. Anyway I love Jacksonville even with all its problems just too bad our team sucks.

In a fucked up way, I love having unlikeable players on my teams, especially when they do well. It makes defiantly waving your junk at other fanbases all the sweeter. Even so, Cutler might be a bit much. If I had my pick of douchey QBs, I'd take Rivers. Less sulking, more just being a dick.

So basically that was the Bears and the Packers vs. Aaron Rodgers.

3-0. I'm ok with this, if our receivers stop dropping TD passes and our defense can actually cover a receiver for a change.

Most penalties by GB in a single game in 55 years.

And yeah, Rodgers has been the best QB in the league since last year. As the years progress he's only going to get better. Which is a little scary.

The A.F.L. still does things the old-fashioned way, because it's so unlikely that a game will end in a draw. Apparently in 102 years of competition there have only ever been 3 drawn Grand Finals. Though they hastily created a new rule on Monday allowing for extra time time in the Grand Final replay if that should end in a draw, too. Incidentally, the last (and only, I think) time St. Kilda won a Grand Final, it was also agaisnt Collingwood - and they only won it by one point.

Meanwhile Melbourne's kind of been thrown into chaos by this whole rematch thing. The Grand Final is such an unimaginably huge day in the Melbourne calendar that basically nothing happens on the Saturday on which it's held - which means that a lot of things are planned for the Saturday after. Now all those events - hundreds of auctions, weddings, anything else you can imagine - have been postponed because everyone will be watching the rematch.

I've been a fan of Rodgers since he played for Cal. All you chumps are johnny come latelys.

In all seriousness, with the sweep of the Diamondbacks tonight (despite a surprisingly shaky outing from Bumgarner) and the Padres' shutout against the Cubs, the Giants have clinched at least a tie for the division title. They only need one win in the final 3 game series against the Padres to win outright and clinch our first playoff berth since 2003. With Cain on the mound tomorrow, I feel pretty good about our chances. I do feel kind of bad for the Pads though, they played shockingly good baseball for about 80% of the season when nobody had any expectations for them whatsoever. For them to miss the postseason entirely after all that kinda sucks.

I don't watch a lot of AL baseball but it sounds like the Twins rotation is totally gassed at this point too. Shame, since it looks like they'll be playing the Yankees first round and I always like seeing 250 million dollars get them a quick exit from the postseason.
