I mean, the deep irony here is that a lot of people really don't care about the health of athletes, so while I kinda know what you're getting at, I still find the subject depressing all around.

Any other player I'd be right there with you. Injuries are just ... scary, to see, to have and in the NFL, let's face it, to play with.

However, in this specific case my sentiments are a definite 'meh, whatevs'.

I just didn't like the way the Vick thing went down in a lot of ways. I believe it was right to prosecute him criminally but I think a lot of the subtext around the whole thing was pretty ugly. I can't help but think that the animal cruelty=automatically evil person thing is ignoring a whole mess of social variables here. I get that there's a correlation between animal abuse and sociopathic behavior but at the same time a lot of the animal abuse people are talking about in that context isn't socially sanctioned-- guys like Jeffrey Dahmer collect roadkill despite their environment whereas with Vick dogfighting happened in part because of his environment. That doesn't excuse his behavior, of course, but the ferocity with which a lot of people speak about the situation has alienated an awful lot of people and probably has done as much harm as it has good.

Between this and the Lions game I'm pretty convinced that that any 4-3 team with a pulse can drink Jay Cutler's milkshake. He holds the ball too long and if there's two bodies on Kreutz suddenly you guys don't have an o-line anymore.

Anyway, I never really thought McNabb was the problem in Philly, so I thoroughly enjoyed the epic fashion in which Andy Reid shit the bed today. I'm sure the guy's a great teacher since the Eagles never really seem to lack for talent, but with his clock management skills I wouldn't let that guy microwave leftover pizza much less coach a football team.

No gloating, guy who likes a team currently in a relegation spot.

The US couldn't even bring rain gear that was waterproof. You expected them to play decent golf?

(Seriously. Halfway through the first day they had to buy new rain gear from the clubhouse shop)

 :-(

Thing is though, they chose to play that big money event in the USA before playing the Ryder Cup so they should have known that the UK in October means torrential rain around 50% of the time and in Wales it's more like 60%.

Yup. I've been up and down a lot this season but I love this goddamn team, I was ready to give up on them about half a dozen times this season but they pulled it out. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, because the Giants have been a very schizophrenic team all year. Unless we get absurdly lucky we're not getting past the NLCS, but if Cincy can knock off the Phillies in a short series then who knows?

Also Alex, it looks like Morneau's concussion might be serious enough to force him into retirement. It's a shame, but way too many athletes play through concussions and end up paying for it later in life, if the diagnosis is as bad as it sounds he's making the right choice.

It's too bad if he does retire, though. Morneau's so fun to watch play.

Yeah, that whole thing is pretty big news here so I've mostly been trying not to think about it. Shitty part is there's always the offchance it's already permanent. And from a purely selfish point of view, yeah, the guy really was fun to watch. He was really killing the ball this year too. He seemed like a mortal lock to crank out 50 doubles and 30 homers at times. God damn it.

I had first heard rumors yesterday, but I was pretty damn skeptical. The only reason it makes an iota of sense is that different people are running the franchise now. Even that's a bit undermined by the widely believed rumor that ditching Randy's baggage was part of the housecleaning intended to make the team more attractive to buyers.

I like having Randy though. I get that tons of people hate him, but I've never been one of them.

Out of all the egocentric receivers in the league, he was always one of the least hateable. He definitely takes a backseat to T.O. and Ochocinco.

I'm not sure if everyone has seen them or not, particularly since like, half the forums was like 12 years old during these games, but the absolute best were his Thanksgiving Day eviscerations of the Dallas Cowboys. With Randy, it's always been about motivation, but he's got a well-publicized grudge against them. People always talk up his one handed catches, but for my money, I'd take this play from his rookie season Thanksgiving game. Note how that says part 3. That's because he made 3 catches that day. 3 catches for 156 yards yards and 3 touchdowns. I just picked the craziest looking one. The '00 game wasn't really any prettier for the 'boys. This one might be my favorite Randy play ever. I like to think that game is what convinced Phillippi Sparks to immediately retire once the season ended. Randy Moss is basically my favorite NFL player even if it is against my better judgement. I can't help it. I mean, I was 16 when he entered the league. If anyone was eventually willing to overlook a lack of professionalism it was a drunken early 20s version of Alex C.

Those are some great plays. Too bad I was 8 ;-;

I think the thing I realized most from those clips is how much I miss John Madden as a commentator.

Seeing a bummed out Troy Aikman was pretty awesome too.

I miss 'em both, definitely, but Madden's random espousal of complete gibberish near the end of his career is too endearing for me not to let him take the cake. I started really watching football a year or two before Summerall retired, so most of my formative football years were spent with Al Michaels and John Madden in the booth. And Cris Collinsworth just isn't nearly as entertaining.

I consider the faux mooning incident to be a net plus. Mostly because the way Joe Buck took it. I understand why people think it's more evidence for the "Randy Moss Is A Git" pile, but if you don't even have a dog in this fight and you're going to get as upset as Joe Buck did, then well, I worry for your health. You might accidentally channel flip over to Jersey Shore and have an aneurysm.

Packers, Cowboys, Chargers, Saints lose. Bears win, with Matt Forte turning in his strongest performance in a year. Despite 4 interceptions by Todd "I Can't Believe I'm Playing In This Game, What Am I Doing I Am So Old And Awful At Life" Collins. Hate that guy.

Rooting for the 49ers right now just because, despite my respect for Philly, I hate to see any team as talented as SF go 0-5.

Good weekend.

Fucking Vikings and fucking Childress. The man and his play calling makes me insane. I swear to god we just spent 3/4s of the game going 3 and out series with 2 runs and a pass on 3rd down, the most predictable offensive philosophy going. I hate that. The NFL is a passing league. It's been a passing league for decades now. The last time it wasn't a passing league was a brief period in the '70s. The one time they mix things up and start passing on 1st and 2nd a bit the Vikings did some good stuff and then topped it off with a patented Randy bomb. Too bad our special teams still suck. hargabahbuablagrable

It would be a million times easier for me if I didn't feel like I was the only one in the state who realizes that Peterson isn't so good that we can hand the fucking ball off to him every down. He is not a god, dammit. I love him, but he's not 6 yards all down hill Terrell Davis, and even he needed Elway.
