And then you go to America where you can walk down Main Street of Peoria, Illinois, and no one would know or care who you are.

Rooney's 24. He's not even eligible to play in MLS for another 8-10 years.

PSHOOOOO BIG WIN OVER THE CAPS LAST NIGHT, BRUINS!

I also got to see some dude from Vancouver be a total douchehole and try to attack a Minnesota fan for cheering for his team. Wicked classy, Canucks.

Looks like Rooney's off to Liverpool, was at Anfield before and overhead Hodgson say "looks like Wayne's coming"
Didn't stay long after though because it started pissing it down.

I watched some of a game of baseball on T.V. last night. I couldn't really tell what was going on. There seemed to be two teams of guys in drab uniforms swinging and missing the ball a lot. Though I guess I can't really talk seeing as how I enjoy watching test cricket which is basically just five days of guys not even playing shots at all.

Baseball is a lot closer to Twenty20 cricket than anything else. Except we talk about cutters and curveballs instead of googlies and slow pitches.

Josh Hamilton, however, would probably do well in Twenty20. Knocking it out for six every time would be a hoot.

I hate how there's armchair football players around the country agreeing with James Harrison and calling NFL players soft for saying that maybe a guy shouldn't spear with his helmet. I don't think James Harrison is a dirty player, per se, since that's really not the point or the problem. The problem is football culture has a long history of negligence.

I guess maybe his agent was trying to inflate his market value? In Australia at the moment it's not uncommon for rugby league players who are coming to the end of their contract to talk big about how they want to go and play rugby union in Europe for gazillions of dollars before miraculously resigning with their current team.

Until it happens to Tom Brady, no one is safe.

That's the one thing I agree with guys like Chris Harris about. There's a definite double standard in place, especially if the offensive player is a star. I remember in one of Adrian Peterson's first preseason games he went out of his way at the end of a running play to make contact with his helmet when a guy was coming in to force him out of bounds. It was one of those plays where you could hear their helmets crash loud and clear, but Peterson's a running back so the announcers responded by furiously masturbating.

Giants vs. Rangers in the World Series.

Rangers already established as favorites, but Giants have just found ways to win this post-season.

I'm starting to get bummed out now because the Bears have a million turnovers but are still in the game. The Mike Martz pouty face is maybe even more delightful than Cutler's though, so I guess I can live with any outcome.

Stoked for Vikings-Packers tonight, though. And what the hell happened to Drew Brees? Is the Cutler Curse spreading?

It's just a body language issue, I guess. He looks like he's going to snap one of these days (Mentally or physically, take your pick.) I don't even really blame him. If he was Rich Gannon or Jake Plummer the screaming in the huddle would have started a couple weeks ago.

Fah-vruh's last toss at Lambeau = INCOMPLETE.

Now the big question: does he get sat by Childress or by Roger Goodell?

Seriously though DeAngelo Hall was Cutler's 2nd leading receiver for the game. That's laughably awful even for a Bears QB.

I'm a bit worried by how the Pats almost threw away an easy win today though, game was about 10000x closer than it should have been given the ridiculous turnovers San Diego handed us in the first half.

Neither, probably? Sterger keeps refusing to comment and the alternative is Tarvaris Jackson.

The Chargers really were surprisingly creative in finding new ways to lose the football. Really, objectively speaking, it was amazing. That game should have ended 40-20 instead of 23-20.

And then the next game he got picked once and fumbled 3 times. The dude is seriously not anywhere close to the top-flight quarterback he's often talked about as. I'd take someone like Chad Henne or Matt Schaub over him any day of the week, and especially on Sunday.

I wish Tarvaris Jackson was good. I've met him before and he seems like a nice guy and the whole way he's been jerked around with the ongoing Brett Favre saga is one of the more underrated shitty subplots going in football. Having to prepare like you're going to be the starter for two seasons in a row while answering media questions about how your teammates flew down to Mississippi to beg a 40 year old to come back is sort of a raw deal. On the bright side, I guess he's still getting paid and unlike half the other QBs in the NFL he may not end up getting horribly maimed by the Giants this year, so he's got that going for him.

I can think of a few people who can relate to what Tavarius is going through.

  • Ty Detmer
  • Mark Brunell
  • Steve Bono
  • Kurt Warner
  • Doug Pederson
  • Matt Hasselbeck
  • Craig Nall
  • J.T. O'Sullivan
  • Aaron Rodgers

List.

I think some those guys can relate to an extent, but the media circus that comes with Favre territory makes this one a li'l worse than usual. There were local media guys who basically asked questions like "So, clearly your teammates want Favre and the fan base is terrified of the idea of you starting. How does that affect your preparation as the first man on the depth chart?". It sucks that a guy like Pederson never really got a legit chance as a starter, but he never really had an openly hostile fan base to deal with after having once been groomed as the starter either. Rodgers has the most obvious connection with the whole thing, but he at least looks like he'll be good enough to take it out on the rest of the league for the next 8 or 9 years. Besides, in a way this may have rather ended up helping out Rodger's relationship with the fans a bit, since he put up with a lot of bullshit on his way to starting and people seem to appreciate that. Remember that he could have ended up more like Steve "Will Never Be Joe Montana" Young.

I dunno if you'd call Pederson's truly significant. That was a straight up "You're here to take a season's worth of hits before we throw Donovan to the wolves," situation. Anyway, I'm just saying I generally feel bad for that kinda player and Jackson's situation has been more of a roller coaster ride than most.
