"Chicharito" is way more fun to say than "Ole Gunnar", though.

Plus the English announcers just CANNOT say it right. It's not "Cheek-a-rito", guys.

Speaking of commentary fuck-ups: the other night I was watching briefly a Bundesliga game and somewhere in T.V. land someone had fucked up because the commentary was from a completely different Bundesliga game. Pretty damn disconcerting, especially when there was simultaneous goal-mouth action in both games, and the attacking team in the "audio" game scored a goal about which the commentator got particularly excited, while the attacking team in the "video" game only won a corner that didn't come to anything.

Don't even get me started on the English commentators. For some reason, it seems to be acceptable to sound like a moron when commentating and spectacularly fucking up the pronunciation of all of the foreign players.

David Pleat, I am looking at you especially. I wish I could meet you so that I could smack you every time you mispronounced a name and then maybe you would learn.

The one I really don't get (and EVERYONE does this) is "Sir Alec Ferguson".

He's been around for...well..since before I was born, do you guys just not have the ability to pronounce the letter x?

I would hazard a guess as it being because Alec is often what Scottish people call those named Alex, a sort of variation in the same way that Eoin, Sean and Ian are all variations of John.

It is another mistake but frankly, with it being that scumbag, I would be happy for them to do it if it annoys him more.

Had an exchange student who called me that. Really annoying. Anyway, the Packers injury situation is getting pretty surreal. The 10 guys on injured reserve (and I think they had one guy they just let go who was out for the year too) was impressive enough, but I forgot that they had 3 guys on the PUP list too. I pay quite a bit of attention to this stuff, but I'm starting to feel like I'm going to have to print out the roster like it was a play program before games at this rate.

Four walks, three straight hits - all with two outs.

I've seen surprisingly few good gifs to come out of yesterday's game, outside of Kinsler's double bouncing off the top of the center field wall. No good camera angle to catch Kinsler saying 'fuck' really obviously after it bounced back in play, unfortunately. Walk 'Em, Texas Ranger was a pretty good Twitter meme though.

I thought a perfect hat trick was a power-play goal, even-strength goal and a short-handed goal.

You know, I didn't know that there was a perfect hat-trick in hockey but that does make a lot of sense.

Of course, the Gordie Howe hat-trick is much more fun (goal, assist, fight).

Fantastic game between the All Blacks and the Wallabies in Hong Kong on Saturday night. Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO4dC9EEuew

Adam Ashley-Cooper's try in particular was outstanding, I still wish he was a bit faster but as he showed here once again he can beat a defender with strength and with skill just as easily. Quade Cooper really needs to do a lot of work on his defence, he falls off far too many tackles, but in attack he's the most exciting thing to happen to Australian Rugby in years. The Wallabies still have a lot of problems, but they're a pretty young team and given that coach Robbie Williams basically had to turn around a decade's worth of entrenched kick-heavy, attack-shy mentality, I think things are starting to look really good. And holy shit, just when you think George Smith was the best number 7 Australia would ever see along comes David Pocock!

EDIT: But international referees really, really need to start cracking down on the All Black's work around the breakdown. The way they suddenly started lying all around the base of the ruck, getting in Will Genia's way every time the Wallabies started to get a roll on, was unbelievably blatant and yet they get away with it time and time again. Given that next year's World Cup is going to be in New Zealand, this is rather worrying.

Nope, that's a hat-trick.

Interesting thing about a cricket hat-trick is that it can be stretched out over an unusually long time: as long as it's three wickets on three consecutive deliveries by the one bowler it's a hat-trick. So if a bowler gets two wickets from the last two balls of an over (six balls per over), then the other bowler bowls his (or her) over from the other end - when the original bowler comes back to bowl his next over, if he gets a wicket on the first delivery of that over it's a hat-trick. This can even carry over from one session to another: so a bowler can get two (or one) wickets before, say, the lunch break, and come back and finish off his hat-trick with the first delivery of the first over after the lunch break.

Man frigging whatever. I'm still confused by Nani's goal on Saturday.

Mostly by this: Did the ref play advantage for the handball when Nani went down? Because then it makes perfect sense and Gomes is just a big nosed idiot.

I forgot to watch that until you mentioned it actually but now that I have it's scandalous. The ref is obviously waving Gomes to take the free-kick so I have no idea how it was allowed.

On the other hand, it was 2-0 not 1-0 so Tottenham can't complain too much because they would have lost anyway (disregarding all the psychological mumbo-jumbo that they might have played better if it was only 1-0 at the time).

The referee played advantage, since Gomes having a hold of the ball with United commited to an attack is a better situation for them than a free kick. The whistle was never blown, and Gomes is an absolute idiot for thinking a free kick had been given. Someone so experienced should know better.

I don't particularly approve of Nani exploiting the situation, but other than poor sportsmanship he's not in the wrong.

Bill Simmons was saying that, just for the headline "Patriots trade Moss to Vikings for Moss & draft pick".

That said, Deion Branch has done a pretty good job filling his shoes.

And Danny Woodhead. Jesus fucking christ Danny Woodhead. It seems like every year, there's one guy on the Pats that becomes my favorite player. Two years ago it was Mayo, then I bought a Mayo jersey last year and got a mancrush on Vollmer, and now Ninkovich and Woodhead are replacing Vollmer.

btw, I brought this up while watching the game yesterday: Is there a worse job in sports than Tavaris Jackson?

You're the starting quarterback all summer, until some old-ass motherfucker rolls out of bed and decides he's going to take your job not once, but twice. And then gets a media frenzy around him all season, meanwhile you're just...there. The backup quarterback. People would forget you if not for Myron Pryor.

Agreed.

Anyway, this is a weird mental situation for me. I'm not really surprised about the waiving, since it's Childress, and I'm on the record as not being a Chilly fan. But still, it's Randy Moss, so I feel like I should be surprised at this turn of events. You shouldn't go trade for him in the first place if you're not going to be able to handle it and immediately decide to bail when he continues to be Randy Moss. This is like buying a python and then getting rid of it when it turns out that hey, it expects to be fed live rodents. I can understand why you decided to bail, but you're still stupid for buying the python in the first place.
