Yeah. The guy who got punched (Morten Gamst Pedersen) is a pretty decent footballer and outstanding citizen.

Though I think the Premier League made him stop wearing "GAMST" on his jersey? Kinda lame. Javier Hernandez gets his nickname on his.

Soccer is so full of schwalbes I don't take anyone falling down on a pitch seriously. They're all faking it and it makes the sport very unattractive.

Yeah, to say "all players" is a gross misrepresentation of what goes on. It's like with basketball. Do players try to work the officials? Sure. Do people still get hurt? You bet your ass.

It's one of those things that I don't see a good way around. Tripping injuries and the like are just way too nasty to go changing the rules too much just to stop people from being a bit douchey about it.

It's probably not practical for most cases of play-acting, but in the Australian A-League this season they've introduced retroactive suspensions for any player deemed after a match to have been guilty of diving.

Scarred, you confuse me. I don't understand how the only Bears fan I know who is actually realistic about the Bears' strengths and weaknesses is some dude from the internet. That's kinda the opposite of what I've learned to expect from life. Weird. Maybe it's harder to drink the Kool-Aid from Seattle. Then again, I suppose we're so busy hating the Packers here in Minnesota that Bears fans have to resort to saying really dumb crap just to get a good-natured argument going, so maybe I'm just overthinking this.

I'd blame it on not being surrounded by screaming fans who distract from actually watching the game, added onto the intense aura of defeatism that comes with living in Seattle and Enjoying Sports.

I dunno, it doesn't seem like it's that hard to see the Bears' faults, especially this year. We barely beat the freakin' Bills last week. The only thing you really need to appreciate the shitter where this franchise lives is a pulse.

Typing that last sentence sort of hurt me inside.

Seattle is an underrated miserable sports city. The Sonics had a 60 win season the same year that Jordan's Bulls went 72-10.  :|

For as sloppy as we played, I'm surprised we pulled that win out with such a large margin on the scoreboard.

At least the Jets beat the Browns, if they'd had the same record as the Bears I don't know how I would react.

It says a lot about how terrible the Vikings have been offensively. The Bears had good field position all day and like I hinted at earlier, that one Viking's touchdown was a gimme off of broken coverage. The Cover 2 is a great defense right up until a safety randomly lets someone get behind him.

Philadelphia State University beat Andover Tech, 59-28. Personally, I think the PSU head coach ran up the score to try to impress the BCS voters.

And that's just until pitchers and catchers show up for spring training (aka the best day of the year). Season doesn't start until March 31st.

Bryan, if you have MLB Network, they show some Arizona Fall League games, as well as the Caribbean Series during the winter. They just started showing Ken Burns' Baseball on Thursday nights, as well. Highly recommended if you're into old-timey baseball and the soothing tones of Bob Costas.

I caught the Rising Stars game when it was on a couple weeks ago, Brandon Belt (top Giants prospect, will probably get called up at some point next season) drew 3 walks and would have gotten a double if the center fielder hadn't made a crazy running catch. Beyond that there just isn't a whole lot going on. Winter meetings are at the beginning of December but I don't know how much the Giants will do this offseason. The last thing I want is for Sabean to tie up a bunch of money in Carl Crawford. He's good, but he's going to be vastly overpaid because the free agent market is terrible and I don't want the Giants to be that team. I want them to get Huff and Uribe back and maybe deal Sanchez if they can get a good return for him. If they lose Uribe to the Cardinals (who apparently want him bad) then maybe they could look into bidding on Tsuyoshi Nishioka, who's coming over from Japan this offseason. The ownership is supposedly raising the salary room Sabean has to work with, but there's just not much out there for the Giants needs if they're really not interested in Jayson Werth (which makes me angry but whatever).

True, but with Romo side-lined and that incredibly fat coach fired I actually enjoyed the cowboys' performance last week.

Fuck you, I want him so bad. He actually works counts and hits for extra bases, and those are the two things the Giants need so, so badly right now. But Sabean apparently has no interest in him, so yeah he's probably going to be on the Red Sox.

Basically what I'm saying is that the Giants should have firsties on all free agents with beards. It just makes sense.

Weird things happen over the course of a season that you don't expect.

Sometimes, the cellar dwellers put a beatdown on the best team in the league.

It's called the Law of Competitive Balance.

EDIT: For those of you who don't know what that is:

Quote
"There develop over time separate and unequal strategies adopted by winners and losers; the balance of those strategies favors the losers, and thus serves constantly to narrow the difference between the two."

Speaking of which, someone pointed out that now that injuries have probably forced Jamie Moyer to finally retire, Omar Vizquel is the only remaining active player to have his first major league at-bat in the 1980s.
