Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.

"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."
--James D. Nicoll

Funny, but given that English is an amalgam of Saxon and Norman French, with whatever words borrowed from various Indian dialects, and from whatever people were being militarily abused by the English at that time it is also true.

Explosive decompression == squirty not dribbly. Maybe on her pants?

Also possibly the whole exaggerated nosebleed was Jeph making fun of/shouting out  one or two anime tropes.

Yesterday's poll results

What other jobs would Wil have issues with?

Anything involving the military  24 (72.7%)
Ad man  2 (6.1%)
Hallmark Greeting Card jingle author  7 (21.2%)
Brewer  0 (0%)

Total Voters: 33

Although I figured that Wil wouldn't want to "Debase his art with filthy lucre" apparently most of you figure that the physical aspects of military life wouldn't appeal to Wil (that was it wasn't it?)

Jeph - if you're reading this get some sleep, then do whatever you need to do to relax this weekend.  We'll see you later.

there were many poets who were soldiers, and some nice poetry comes from the trenches of the first world war...there was a lot of down time inbetween charging machine guns... but it sure gave them something to think about and compose.

Also whatever people were militarily abusing the English, i.e. don't forget the lovrly Romans, or the vikings, and dear old Cnut.

And for some reason, when I read the latest poll, the last option came into my brain as 'bear.' What that means, I do not know, save that I've perhaps been reading SPQR Blues too much.

"Screechy guitar noise". That's the technical term, I take it.

Wasn't Thurston Moore the guy who bought up dozens of cheap old guitars and modified them to make all sorts of interesting noises?

And as of 2:21 PM here is the poll results.

Things that Jeph can do to relax?

Play a little guitar  12 (29.3%)
Ask for a back rub from his wife (sorry, can't remember her name)  9 (22%)
Walk in the woods followed by some fishing  5 (12.2%)
Beer  15 (36.6%)

Total Voters: 41

Now Jeph, if you catch anything, frying it up in a nice beer batter will allow you to mix two of the above options.  Or you could do all of the above.

Marigold Farmer

If you're going by the Twitter account, that's just a pun on "gold farmer". It's never been confirmed that that's her name.

Actually, I am 99.9999% sure Jeph did confirm somewhere (in the ask Jeph thread, his tweedle-dee, or one of the U-streams) that her actual name is Marigold Farmer and he didn't even realize it was a pun until someone else pointed it out. Does anyone else recall that?

On a different note, I'm glad to see a character who's as indie-clueless as I am!

2nd paragraph.

Well, there you go. I've just always thought of Thurston and Kim as New York royalty. And I didn't think J. was actually still living in Amherst, either!

I ran into Thurston many years ago in Rhino Records in LA, and it just seemed somehow wrong to see him on the west coast...

(yes, I refrained from humping his leg!)

You know, for a girl that's so insecure, Marigold is pretty well-endowed if you look at the first and last panels, especially to be showing that much boobage through a sweatshirt. That seems to put her on par with Faye in the "big boobs" department as well as the "busty thick girl" department.

True. Mustn't forget HAL 9000 is from the future. Or was, since that future is the past. Or a past, since it never happened.

Y'know, every time I seriously think about what Clark thought we'd be doing right now, I get a bit depressed. He envisioned manned flights to Jupiter, we got I-Pods and the Slap-Chop.

Alert to donors: Just don't count on gettin' any parts back, that's all. Once they're assimilated into Frankencarl, they're his.
